Using the directions provided by others on this site, we left the baggage terminal by the escalotor to zero level, walked to the center divider and turned right. At the end of the divider are some seats to wait for the WAX plus other RTC buses.
We had about a 20 minute wait but the heat was not unbearable and the bus was early. We showed our Medicare cards and paid a $1 to ride. The air conditioning in the bus was great even with the door open. Plenty of room for our two bags and off we went. Traffic was horrendous on Tropicana and I-15 because it was about 4:30, seems like it took forever to get downtown. Actually about 1/2 hour or so from when we left the airport. WE exited the bus at Fremont headed the 4+ blocks to the Plaza. Fremont was crowded, where did all these people come from in the afternoon? The walk to the Plaza with two suitcases was OK but not sure I would do the bag drag again, but you can't beat the price. Total time from leaving baggage claim to the Plaza about 1 hour 15 minutes. If time is important to you take some other form of transportation.

Interesting to hear Fremont was crowded on a Thursday afternoon but maybe because of the holiday this week... Anyway, I am glad to hear the a/c works well, I remember a few of the 108 rides where it was marginal at best. I look forward to the WAX this fall when I arrive, just hoping my flight is on time, I'll be cutting it close! But wow, for that price, you just can't beat it.

I have made several trips between the airport and downtown and the time was within 2 or 3 minutes shy of half an hour........shorter than most shuttles and probably not worse than a cab. Certainly worth a buck!

    WAX and Other Routes

We always use the WAX to get between the airport and downtown. I think it's funny that Terminal 0 is used by two forms of transportation - the High Roller limos and the city buses.

If you are staying at the west end of Fremont, it's about the same walk from the downtown transit center as from the Fremont stop, and you get off sooner. Tradeoff is that the walk isn't shaded like Fremont.

I think the Vegas bus system is great. We only rent a car if we want to do some sightseeing outside of Las Vegas. Otherwise we ride the buses. They are clean, frequent on the main routes, and generally (close to) on time. It's the one place in America I truly see "diversity" work. We've had all sorts of group conversations (meaning everyone within earshot joins in) with other riders of all types and nationalities on the buses. Seems like because everyone is from somewhere else in the U.S. or world they are almost eager to talk. It's where I've learned the impact of the recession on the casino employees, many of whom now work more than one part-time job without benefits vs. five or six years ago when everyone was making money. Also, when you ride the bus you don't have to worry about being over the limit or in an altered state of mind. I wish they'd allow open containers like on the street, but of course I understand why they don't.

You can download PDF bus schedules from the RTC website. I always download them to my smartphone so I have them with me when we're out and about.

For me, the key to a pleasant down-town "bag-drag" starts with a stop at the Fremont Casino for a couple of $2.00 Heineken's. It fortifies my stamina so I can make it to Main Street Station. Sometimes I have to stop at the Cal for another "pick-me-up" though?

IMHO The WAX was a great addition to the RTC's routes, as was the BHX and the DHX. Those routes make getting to Downtown from the airport, and twoards henderson from downtown very easy and convienant!
