Thanks for the pep talk Jilly. Nacho and I was just talking about how we are doing great with discipline etc etc...

Now I realize that was all BS, we were great because we were up...when I'm on tilt nobody can really stop you from gambling and blowing your bankroll to smithereens.

So during the entire Celine Dion show with my wife tonight, my mind wasn't into the show and just thinking about the lack of gambling discipline.

You know, the usual spiel about how I should play less, leave when I'm up, why do I gamble etc etc....

Bad sign for me to be thinking this way when I'm up still!

Anyways, I guess i will take it easier the next couple of days and see if Shifter can bring some luck on Thursday...but the mentally self beating up will continue no matter what....:)

I wouldn't worry too much about not having the discipline to walk away when you're up in a session - we all get pulled into playing longer when we're up because of the adrenaline or endorphins or just the plain old thrill of being on a heater - and I'm there with you, one of the absolute worst when it comes to walking away when I'm up. Plus, sometimes walking away when you're up is really walking away from even more winnings if you really are in the middle of a great heater - and to me, more winnings really just means more play time than it means more money in the big scheme of things.

So I'd say, focus less on cutting upside sessions short - and beating yourself up mentally for not doing so - and instead just try to focus on the side of discipline that when your gut [and a look at your dwindling chips] both tell you that a session is not going your way right from the get go that it's time to get up and walk - and come back fresh a few hours later and hopefully start on a new heater where you can take the full ride up & down on the rollercoaster then.

For me personally, I find hot sessions will turn cold eventually, but cold sessions are generally always 100% cold -so stick with the hot sessions until they go cold, but dump the cold sessions as soon as you can tell they're cold - that's the philosophy I've been personally trying to employ lately - since I know I don't have the self-discipline to always walk away from a hot session while I'm up or before it turns cold.

I mean, playing a positive session back to an even session is really no harm no foul - yeah, it's great to lock in the wins - but when you're the type of true player I suspect your are - the same kind of player that I am, where the action is the draw more than the money - extending the amount of time you play is more important than locking in a win, you really just want to play as long as you can without going home with a net loss for the trip - so play to your heart's content without guilt on those sessions that are winners and know you're going to give some - or maybe even all - of your wins back when those sessions turn cold & be okay with it.

But by riding the wins back to neutral on the hot sessions that eventually turn cold and cutting & running on those cold sessions where you never got hot to begin with, maybe you can get the best of both worlds without ever putting any one session - and by extension, the whole trip - too far into the red, while still wringing all the playing time & enjoyment you can out of the trip at the same time.

Or maybe you're not like me at all and really, really just want to go home a winner more than just spend as much time at the tables as possible. In which case, ignore everything I said LOL.

I'm with Jilly. If I look at hot versus cold sessions, my worst losses come when I start at a table and things just aren't going my way from the beginning. It's those times when I should've realized that "this table isn't for me" or "man, this dealer won't break," that would make a huge difference in a trip. If I start off winning, I'm usually pretty good about pressing when my luck is running good and then leaving when the run is over and the cards or dice start to turn. The other area where discipline is key is when you're at a table where you aren't doing poorly, but you just can't seem to get a run started. In those instances, having the discipline to keep your bets low and wait for the good run - like a lion stalking its prey - is the key to turning those sessions into good wins. If you try to force the action, you rarely walk away from the table ahead.

I agree with both of you, but it is much clearer after the fact. When you are at the tables it is very tough to think rationally...at least for me :)

Just ask Shifter, he's had two comeback hits at Biloxi in the last two days, but how do you get down that hole in the first place? :confused2:

After a good night's sleep, and canceling golf this morning, I feel much better, going to go try and hit some features at the Wynn later, and just enjoy an easy day. Probably not much gambling today...

It is. There's been a 2K/4K NL game going on there. Sounds like a lot of whales that are playing in today's $1M buy-in WSOP tournament have been playing in it.

I'm not very good at poker, but I remember the Bellagio execs kept asking me whether I wanted to play the "Big Game" in their casino, min. buy in is 1m.

I declined because although I've played poker a few times, I think my skill level is in the 10-20 range haha.

Yeah - Saturday was a day of extremes

It started with a game of golf at the Wynn course

Then like Natedog mentioned, we hit the Wynn tables. Natedog, had a great roll - made several passes and a lot of numbers. I practically hit my win goal for the day on his role. Then Cuz followed up and almost hit the "all small" feature bet. We were all ahead enough that after Cuz shot, we colored up and had lunch with the family.

Late afternoon, we hit MGM - and that's when things began to unravel...Cuz went first and did a point-seven-out. Then I got the dice and made two passes with some numbers - a good roll... I thought that roll would've turn things around..but it didn't... - this was the first time I lost all of my session money during the trip.

After that disappointing session, Natedog suggested that we split up and play our own games - maybe get things back on track by changing things. I tried a slow darkside play where I do a Don't Pass bet only after the shooter has already made a pass. If I lose that bet, then I martingale until I win (most shooters can't make the second pass and even more can't make the third pass). Win goal to leave the table was 100% ROI - things were working out - almost there - all I needed was one more hit...then the shooter rolls 4 come out 7 sevens and a 11 - DOH! I martingale to the 3rd come out 7, then chicken out and bet the same on the fourth come-out 7 (at this point I'm 4 times the original bet). After that, I hit my loss limit, and just watch the come out 11 roll out...terrible....so I go eat dinner...take a break...

After dinner, I tried the slow play darkside again - and again, almost at my win goal - I just needed one more hit on my original bet.....The shooter makes his second pass and third pass - right back quick. I stop betting and wait for another shooter... the current shooter doesn't make his third pass -DOH! (I got gun shy off of my previous session and didn't stay in.) After that, The next shooter makes a pass, then 11, 7 on come out, then makes his second pass - I bail out after that...slow play darkside did not work out tonight...

So I took another break, and went right side...Found a table with Stick Left 1 open and did good - made 2 passes with multiple hits on all the numbers - I had 3 hits each on the 6, 8 and 10, 2 hits on the 4, 5 and 9. WHen i play alone wolf, I usually start to reduce once I hit my 275% ROI - but this time I was trying to recover from the darkside losses - so I didn't reduce when big red showed up...I made profit, but not as much. Then I participated on two rolls after mine on the table - back to back point-seven-out. Then another roll from a "randie" (random roller)...didn't get much traction before he seven'ed out. Then it got to me again...and again, I didn't reduce, left most of it working on the table to recover and I couldn't make the second pass...after my run, I bailed out...cashed in what was left and decided to call it a night - I still have profit from the three days of playing, but it is "tiny". Texted Natedog - then went to sleep...

Let's see if the luck changes tomorrow for the three amigos...

On Saturday, that money was definitely, "Na Cho Money" - it went back to the casino...:wink2:

You'd probably have more fun in the 10-20 as the buy-in is also uncapped and would probably provide you with enough action for the cost of one of your small bacc bets:nworthy:.

It's one thing to be down - I will continue playing into a losing session to turn it around. I'm talking specifically about those sessions where you start playing and just can't win a hand. If it's blackjack, it's usually defined by a dealer that doesn't break for a full shoe or a few losses in a row on double downs or splits. If it's baccarat, it's being on the wrong side about 66%+ of the time. If it's craps, it would be maybe one turn around the table with no decent rolls. At that point, is when having the willpower to walk away tends to save the most money.

you know i've been there too. just refuse to quit in a bad session because i want to turn things around and it just keeps getting worse. 5k loss turns into 10 turns into 20 turns into a TTO, lose that, get another TTO, etc, etc ....... that was me last night, lol.

the slide is quick and looking back you can always see where you could have left and been in better place. i find the hardest thing to do in gambling is quit in a losing session. i hate the fact that i'm down and want to get it all back right now. i need to do better at looking at gambling like a marathon and it's not always about winning right now, but maximizing wins over the long run.

but then sometimes it does turn around like it did for me last night and the night before and you do get everything back. but if i think about it, if i had left for an hour or 2 and come back later i might have been able to hit the good streak without losing so much upfront and i'd be up big now.

what really pisses me off is how big i'll press when i'm losing, but when i hit a 13 player run like i did 2 nights ago, i get scared and flat bet $5k the entire time and didn't press at all. should have pressed to table max and won 100 at least, but instead only 35 to get even. sure it's great to get out of a big hole, but why do we bet so scared when things are going well, but get so bold to press when we can't win a hand????

    Day Four

    The bleeding continues...

Started craps at 930am with Nacho, this was the most exciting session of my life. Not because of any wins, just because I had to bet crazy to get most of it back. People at the Wynn between 930 and 1130 would have seen me roped off and yelling incoherently.

Session started with the coldest table I've ever seen, about 8-9 continual no passes, I took out 1.3m in chips, was down about 700k at the worse time, and started losing serious control.

Bets were maxed. 10k on line, full odds behind 10k on come, full odds. The most I ever bet. 3k on hard 6,8 4k on hard 4,10

Choppy until shift change , then three shooters in roll including me makes passes, 1 for first guy, 2 for 2nd, 3 for me. I was betting 1k in my usual 100 bets on hops, it was insane.

So session ended down 130k, but as you can see from my theo it was a crazy session

    -90k total

You feel pretty alive when that is happening, don't you, when you are fighting your way back, balls out, and every single decision matters.

Man there is nothing like that feeling, the only one better is coming back all the way and making money.

    You'll get there, be cool!
