:cry:According to the Plaza website they will start charging a $10.00 a day RESORT FEE on July 24, 2012. Included in the fee is free wireless, free 800 and local calls, bottled water, free parking and a $250.00 coupon book.

Glad my reservation is 7-6 to 7-11.

Wow. That's ridiculous for any downtown property (or I think anywhere, quite frankly...) My place in the Golden Nugget, and am happy they don't have this fee (yet).

I can't find anything on their website. Could you provide a link? I have reservations for early October than I booked several months ago. Can they enforce the charge after the fact?

Funny. Their homepage still says NO RESORT FEE. I wonder if it means reservations made after July 24th, or stays after July 24th. When I made a mock reservation for August, there was no mention of it. But it doesnt make sense to start charging it on reservations made AFTER July 24th. I mean why wait until then? Normally a hotel will say any reservation made after today will be charged the extra amount, be it higher parking, etc. As usual, their right hand doesnt seem to know what the left one is doing. I bet if you call them, their reservation department and front desk dont know anything about it.

Aside from my normal rant against their management, $10 is not a bad deal seeing as it includes internet. I paid more than that earlier this month for access when I stayed there. Would not stop me from booking there, but I can see where it would some people.

Here is a link Sam, and no they cannot enforce it. Take a pic of the NO RESORT FEE on their website, and threaten to dispute it with your credit card if they try to charge you.

Thanks for the help, and the idea about the pic. I did that, and will hopefully be grandfathered in, since I made reservations way before this was announced.

Yeah. Bad thing is that it would suck to start your vacation haggling over a stupid resort fee. I dont think their front desk employees are empowered to comp anything on their own without getting the ok from a higher up.

They also have a 2 night minimum now. I have never noticed that before. You can still book 1 night on Expedia though.

Just yesterday I booked 2 rooms for labor day weekend through Hotels.com. The email confirmation states: View Room - No Resort Fee

They've treated me right in the past and given me nice upgrades, so I'm not about to b*tch about it now.....but I don't think it sets a very encouraging precedent for downtown, and those who stay there vs the strip.

Oh God.... here we go again... "I'm going to Vegas and live like a baller with a limo from the airport and penthouse suite... I'll be dining at of some of the city's finest restaurants and risking thousands at the tables, BUT I REFUSE TO PAY A $10 RESORT FEE!"

    UGHHHHHH...

... and no takin' me thru the tunnel either!!!

I seriously doubt that 90% of the people staying at the Plaza meet ANY of those criteria. Maybe, but I doubt it.

I guess I'll be cancelling my reservation and going back to MSS. I REFUSE to pay a resort fee. I made my reservations for the beginning of October a few weeks ago (before the announcement). If the room is about $30 a night and another $10 a night on top of that, it's a 33% upcharge. Ridiculous! :grrr:

I just called and checked on my reservation for Sept. First the agent knew nothing about it, then sounded puzzled when I said it was on their website, and asked if I could hold. When she came back, she said that, yes, any reservation arriving AFTER July 24th would be charged the resort fee. Just a heads up for anyone not wanting to pay it. Have documentation in hand. Kind of a weird date to pick. A Tuesday in the middle of the summer. Why not July 31?

Nice straw man argument. First time I've ever seen it on the internet.

    -----------

Wifi as part of a mandatory resort fee may seem like a good deal, but bandwidth is a finite commodity and when it's available to thousands (theoretically) of guests at will, then you're going to get anything but high speeds and probably better off using cell data. So that's one benefit out the Window. I do use the gym at least half the days of a visit but that's still just half.

My problem with resort fees mainly stem from the fact that they're very hidden from the type of visitor who doesn't visit sites sites like these, which is the vast majority. Yes it's listed at the very last screen, but that does not endear me to a company when they slip it in right before you're about to hit 'Confirm'. It's also shady, mainly in MGM's case, that their quoted prices on aggregate sites appear a hell of a lot cheaper than non-resort fee hotels. Sites like Expedia and Travelocity need to factor those in. Until then it's yet another underhanded advantage that MGM, et. al. exploit.

Also the Nugget can't be far behind. I'm surprised they haven't yet since they're the only real 'resort' on Fremont. There's no equivalent switch there like moving from Bellagio to Caesars. Plaza has improved a lot but still steps behind GN.

We've stayed in the Penthouse a few times. That was before the remodel though.

well, the resort fee haters can cross another one off their list. but it won't be long before they don't have anywhere to stay.

    That's pretty lame.

I had a really nice time both times I've stayed there. I wonder if it's gonna be charged on comp rooms?
