How many points needed for free night?

I just went to the new Cleveland Horseshoe casino today. I re-activated my TR card, which hadn't been used in 5+ years. I played for two hours, a quarter at a time, mostly on video poker. In all that time less than 20 points had accumulated. I just logged into TR online and it said tier zero, everything zero, and that I qualified for nothing. The message I keep seeing on this board is that it's so fast and easy to get comped rooms...but I've never read how many points one must actually accumulate. Keeping it real, how many are we talking about here? If it's hundreds or thousands, I don't consider that "easy".

 

Two hours of $.25 VP won't earn you a handshake.

That said, I'm either $.25 VP or $5 blackjack and never plan on "earning" anything with points. The free rooms I have received were through mailed (or e-mailed) offers. I have stayed as much as a week at a time with free CET offers, though those have pretty much dried up. Boyd and Four Queens will still comp me rooms though.

 

Even if you played enough to get an offer it isn't going to show up that fast. It's not instantaneous. Basically CET will look to see how much you bet and how long you played. That will determine your offers. It really isn't based upon the number of points you earn. Although while playing a long time and a lot of money you naturally earn points.

So give it some time and see what the web site shows. If you only played a few hours at 25 cent VP you probably won't see much. But CET does give out the easiest comps and you've started up again so you may see something.

 

i'm not sure how you can expect them to give you a free room when you played 2 hours at .25 per spin at one of the lowest HA games in the entire casino. even if you played quickly at 400 hands an hour, that's $200 coin-in, maybe $4 theo. so you earned $1.50 in comps. most people playing .25 VP are actually playing 5 coins so $1.25 per spin and they play 4-8 hours a day or more over a few days a trip. that can earn you a free room.

 

~$200-$300 spending daily will get free weeknight rooms and some weekend nights in Vegas. I have no idea if this translates to the casinos around the country.

If you are expected to lose $100, they aren't going to give you a free $150 room.


Easy comps are relative. That same amount spent at MGM properties will get you discounted rates at Excalibur and you still have to pay a resort fee.

 

You have to think about what your potential losses are and if they are making money off you. If its enough to take a chance in giving you free rooms for the risk that they can end up making it up on what you gamble.

There's no real exact point amount on when you can start getting free rooms. Its a matter of how much and how long you play.

 

I didn't expect a free room that quickly....but in my threads asking about "which hotel" to stay at in Vegas....I keep getting advised to check my TR point status for offers...even though I've repeated that I'm a low roller. Another poster said their relative got an offer after "an hour of play". Just trying to find out how many points is considered "fast and easy". Can someone give me a number? 500 for a free night? 1000?

They give free rooms because they THINK/HOPE/PRAY that based on what they know about you, they will get you to come visit and play enough to cover the cost of the room. If they THINK you your play will not cover the cost of the room, then they do not invite you.

With that said, the magic number needed to get a free room is going to swing up and down. On a dead mid week day, they are more willing to take a bit of a chance on you. On a busy friday night, you are not gonna get any love. They have enough other players to fill the rooms and the casino.

As to your points showing up right away. Since you indicated that you did show points on the machine, I am guessing the link from the NEW Cleveland casino is not fully working at this point. Maybe a few days to post?

Still, 20 points? Not gonna get much.

I'm 225,000 points on Mlife and I barely get free rooms. LOL. I dont expect it and I dont play for comps. I have a host that I can ask for rooms but as far as offers online, I rarely get them. Basically a computer is most likely calculating your play, the amount and length. From there it will determine if you are getting anything.

 

VP and Slots will be different.

VP - 1000 points = $10000 through machines.
at 1% hold, that means a loss of $100
at 3% hold, that means a loss of $300

I don't play VP so not sure on this, but I would guess 1000 pts would get you offers/free rooms at lower end properties.


Penny Slots - 500 points = $2500 through machines
at ~10% hold, that means you lost $250

That will get offers.

 

One huge thing not mentioned so far is length of play. 20000 points over 100 days playing 1 hour a day will get you far less comps than 20000 points over 10 days.

 

LOL-I knew it was too good to be true...comped rooms for a "low roller". Just as I thought...the only good this TR card will do me is get $2.00 off each buffet.

 

Its possible but some peoples definition of low roller is different from yours.

You can't expect to get comped rooms on your first 20points of play.

 

Like I said, I didn't expect a comped room....but when I've mentioned previously that I "hardly gamble", yet I've still been urged to look for offers....I thought *perhaps* the price of a room might be $10.00 less than when I last checked without entering a TR #.

As an aside, if I had played max coin in the VP my money would have been gone in one minute and I wouldn't have earned any points. By playing one coin at a time I could keep going for two hours.

 

You don't have to get "offers" to get free rooms. Login to your account on the Total Rewards website. Look at the rate calendars. Specifically look at the rates for Imperial Palace (make sure to change the room type to Deluxe). You might be surprised at what you find.

 

I already cancelled my reservation at IP due to the construction. I currently have the last two nights of my trip booked at Bally's using a promo code. Just checked rates using TR #. It's still cheaper using the promo code. Not trying to be a smart aleck, but the only thing I'm surprised at is how slowly the points amass yet so many of you still earn comped rooms.

 

i think it's just a different definition of "a lot of play". it sounds like you put a $20 into the machine and played it for 2 hours at .25 at a time. unless there's some huge computer glitch, that will never get you any free rooms and probably won't even get you a discount. most people getting free rooms are at least playing with a few hundred dollars and playing for hours over the course of several days.

look at it this way. if all you're willing to do is put $20 into the machine, why would they ever give you $10 off your room? they'd start losing money after 2 nights.

 

I see your point. It's just that my money would never last for hours. I don't win much..and I can't afford to lose much..so I can't play much. Now I know it's impossible for me to get anything..and that's all right..I'll just use the card for buffet discounts.

 

I dont gamble much but I've accumulated enough points through the year that it gets up to a decent amount(Platinum Mlife) But even with that, its occasional comp nights and mostly discounted rooms. Now that I think about it, I still spend a good $5-6K in rooms per year in Vegas. I dont even get the Free Play or Comped food offers thru email that many people do. LOL.

Dont expect much out of the players cards unless you plan to gamble a few hundred per trip. $100 play in 1 day doesnt even show up on their radar.

 

I earned 300 points at CET my first time in about hour and barely got free rooms. 20 points is $200 coin in on video poker. With a 98% HA you were expected to lose $2 an hour. Don't expect to get much even if you doubled it. Sometimes it's better to pay up front on the price of the room then to pay for it via gambling.
