I am just wondering if there are restrictions on smartphones on the casino floor? I bought a video poker trainer app a few years ago, and it has a feature that allows you to enter your hand, and it will advise the best statistical play. My gut tells me this might not be well received, but then again, since it's not like card counting in BJ and not cheating, maybe it's okay. I would think it's similar to a basic strategy card, which is OK.

Considering you can use "strategy cards" typically sold in casino stores and gift shops, I do not see why not, UNLESS it slows you and the game down significantly OR you really start winning and kicking ass, then they might get suspicious of a "computer aid"

But he did say video poker app, so there is no one to slow down. People are always pulling out their strategy cards, so I can't see a difference.

For video poker I wouldn't see this being a problem. If you tried looking at one at a blackjack table you'll probably get told to put it away or leave. They would think you are counting or cheating somehow.

Generally speaking, I have the basic strategy down. My wife an I would just use it when we get a questionable hand where the play is not obvious. Another situation might be if we ended up playing a game like Double Double Bonus or Joker Poker where we do not know the basic strategy as well.

You can use your phone anywhere except at a TABLE game or the sportsbook. So VP is NP.

I used an app while playing VP without an issue.

Quick story: I was playing a table game of crazy 4 card poker and my cell phone dinged indicating I had an e-mail or text. I pulled my iphone out of my pocket and looked the e-mail. A pit critter came over to me and said "no cell phone use at the table sir". I showed him my phone screen which was displaying the e-mail I received. It was an offer from mlife. I politely responded "If you don't want me to use my phone at the table then don't e-mail me while I'm sittin' at the table!" We both had a chuckle over it.

Big signs at the book - short version is that you can't use your device (laptop, phone, etc.) to share line information. Otherwise...have at 'er. But the long-winded way they say it, on the scrolling LED sign bars, cracks me up. Takes 45 seconds to read the whole thing....

From an article in the DRF in 2008:
The Nevada Gaming Control Board gave its recommendation to repeal Regulation 22.135 and allow cell phones to be used within race and sports books.

That rule of not using cell phone at sports book area was ridiculous. If you wanted to give line information Or some other betting info you could move 5 feet to the slot machine area and use it.

I agree. Same sort of back ass logic our government uses at the airports.

Just curious what the app is ? I would like to do the same. Anyone have any recommendations for an iPhone helper app.

It's called Pocket WinPoker. I bought it for my Windows mobile 6.5 phone before our last trip to Vegas in 2010. I think it was $20. As far as I can tell, they also have an iPhone version, but they do not yet have an Android version (I really wish they did though!). I'm not sure if I am allowed to link, but doing a quick Google search will bring it right up. The name of the developer is ZSS.

It's really a nice piece of software. You can play just about any video poker game up to 10 hands at a time, and it will alert you whether you are holding the right cards or not. And you can even set your pay tables. But the feature I most look forward to using is the Hand Analyzer, which allows you to pick your game and input the hand you are dealt. It automatically gives you the statistical best Hold cards.

I use winpoker by zamzow. It has this feature. I love this app.

You can also build a different pay table you need and have it calculate it for you.

savaytse66 -I got an android app from the Amazon app store a while back called Video Poker Tutor (it has a yin yang symbol) in addition to just playing on it (it only does JOB & deuces wild) you can enter a hand & it will tell you which to hold & which to discard. I know this isn't exactly the same thing but it does what I need it to & I think it cost .99 cents.

Probably like how you can't use cellphones during flying/takeoffs/landings but people are using phones at the airport..(does the FAA think the cellphone signals miss the planes or something?)
