Heat Index Of 100 Degrees Predicted !!!!

Whoa !
I ain't ready for this TODAY + Tomorrow.
I live + work north of NYC ---
I was putting up a new flag at 9 a.m.
The pole is in the sun --- I spent 15 mins
fixing a broken clip on the rope.
I came inside + my shirt was completely drenched !!!!!
....from just fixing a flag's rope.
Thank god, I mowed the huge lawn, yesterday.
This is brutal !!! Hot + super humid w/ that wonderful
NYC stagnant air bubble.
Humidity at 75 % w/ 95 degree temps predicted.
Thank god my new car has AC - cos my old truck hasn't
had it for years.

 

I hear you. Mid 90s the last 3 days and with the humidity, really stifling. +20 degrees above normal. Rain has been spotty all of June.

Total at our house 3/10ths of an inch for all of June.

Nothing growing but weeds. Grass almost totally browned out. I'm on a well, so I don't water anything but the veggie garden and the flower pots.

 

I hear you Joe - I work down on Hudson Street and it was almost blazing @ 7am when I left for work.

Forget about when you add in the hot pavement and tons of cars/cabs in NYC....wait until about 3pm - it will be an oven.

Joe - buy yourself a few Under Armour shirts - they keep you cool and when you sweat dry very quickly - unlike a cotton shirt that just stays soaked and gets heavy.

 

I think we're looking at 70, breeze coming in off the ocean.

 

It's the same here in Iowa. Add all that corn and it makes the humidity even worse!
Still, I think it's better than -20 degrees that we can get too!

 

Vacationing in the great smoky mountains this week. We are heading to high elevation to find some coolness!

Be safe all, heat can be a killer!!

I also live and work in NYC - and I am not amused.

I am actually looking forward to the 105 and above degree Vegas temps when I arrive in a couple of weeks because I love that gorgeous, humidity-free heat. In New York city the heat trapped between the skyscrapers, coupled with the exhaust from all of the vehicles, is brutal.

Experiencing the latter today, hope to experience the former out in Vegas next month.

 

Just finished an hour walk

Sweated out a lot of impurities that somehow entered my body at Harrahs.
Forgot to bring a bottle of water also.
My daughter commutes into midtown ,after work may have to stop at a few places to re-hydrate between office and Port Auth.

 

If you have to work outside in these temps, wicking fabrics are a necessity. Almost all sporting goods companies make them - don't have to buy UnderArmour (though sometimes their outlets have good prices.) My husband loves Nike dri-fit as his favorite shirts, though he has a few different brands. (for nicer occasions, he'll wear "fishing" shirts - Columbia, lots of other companies make in a long sleeve or short sleeve - vents in the back, lots of pockets, wicking, UPF sun protection.....)

He left early this morning as he had to work on a roof (of a rental property) and wanted to be done before the heat & humidity of our day hit Welcome to summer in the South. And how is your solstice going?
