Anyone have any recommendations for a good book covering history of Las Vegas? Looking for a present for a friend, thinking more like a coffee table book type.

On a separate note, found this website with a timeline that I enjoy, thought I would share, http://vegasclick.com/vegas/casinos-timeline.html

For a coffee table book, I love Vegas: Then and Now - tons of lovely photos (I also have the NYC version:peace:)

For a history book, I've read a couple - one I can never remember about Jay Sarno and his history in VEgas (Caesars, Circus Circus, up through Luxor - great read) Someone usually knows what I mean and posts the title:eek: And Sharks in the Desert by John Smith (LVRJ journalist) came out a few years ago.

There are TONS of threads on books about Vegas here, if you search - upper right menu:peace:

Super Casino. That's the one about Circus Circus and the mega resort phenomenon.

I also like Roll the Bones which is general gambling history with a few chapters devoted to Vegas.

Also for poker Kings Full is a good read.

I got a book called How to Win at Slot Machines or Lose Trying. It's a little dated but has some good history and amusing tales.

I've read a ton of Vegas books and "Super Casino" is the best.

Yup, Super Casino - thanks! I had bought a used paperback at a thrift store or library sale and passed it on to someone else after I read it - boy do I wish I'd kept it:eek: But I read so much - I just can't buy everything and I certainly can't keep everything.....

I really enjoyed When The Mob Ran Vegas. Many of the things in the new Mob Museum downtown, were covered in that book.

The same author is writing another titled Showgirls Tell All.

The mob museum dt had some nice books for sale in their gift shop. One, I can't remember the title, was very big with many great photos from LV history. It was a beautiful coffe table type book for $59.95.I thought about getting it but I didn't want to pack it around and have to carry it on the plane. But they had many other books also including some of the ones mentioned above...
