What can I say that I haven't already...Penn & Teller, the bad boys
    of magic.
Always a great evening of opinionated illusions and entertainment. I've
seen these guys lots of times and think they're just great.
Center frontish VIP seats work best IMO.

I have seen them 3 times in the past year, and would absolutely go see them again. I saw them twice at the Rio, and once when they were on tour throughout the US. The show away from the Rio was at least half new content, as I assume they couldn't bring some of their bigger props with them as easy as others...either way, it was great to spend another night watching Penn & Teller. One of the Vegas shows we worth your money.

Got a comment from a friend who really liked the show, yet felt that Penn Gillette was overly verbose and political. Did anyone else get that experience or feel that way?

Actually that's right on, lol. You either love
the big man or can't stand him.

After seeing the show 3 times in a year, here are my best guesses to answer your questions.

The only political references in the show are to the best of my knowledge (without giving away the content of the show):
    1. They acknowledge that they are Libertarians
    2. The talk about the 4th Amendment
    3. Poke fun at the Chinese Bill of Rights
    4. Acknowledge that they support the 2nd Amendment

I guess Penn could be viewed as being overly verbose because:
    1. Teller doesn't speak, and somebody has to carry the show for 90 minutes
    2. Penn talks a lot and very fast sometimes, as it is part of some of the tricks they are performing.

Well I've always enjoyed Penn. And Teller will talk to you
out in the Lobby after the Show (for those who didn't know...)
I'm reading Penn's book right now...'God no! Signs You May
Already Be An Atheist And Other Magical Tales'.
I bounce back 'n forth between that and Keith Richards' 'LIFE'.

    Not really.

The talks too much / doesn't talk juxtaposition is part of the act, as is their narrated deconstruction of some of the tricks.

I didn't find anything Penn said particularly controversial or hot button. Even if he had, I don't think it would have bothered me. He's a vegas magician, I don't really care about his political views, so as long as it sets up the act, I don't much care what he says.

I saw them many years ago before they went to the Rio, somewhere on teh strip. It was a good show, but I wonder how much has the show changed?

Are they still doing the bullet catch? Not interested in seeing the same act again, but if it has changed enough I would go see them again.

I gather that they mix in new stuff now and then, but that the show doesn't completely change around a lot.

When I saw them in '07, I don't think there was a bullet catch trick. But they did do their flag burning trick that was featured in the West Wing years earlier.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything 'really' new in years, an I've
seen their Show a lot. Their airline metal detector routine
    is new...
Most folks see 'em once...maybe again a year or two later.
What I've noticed is when they advertise...'new routines',
it's stuff I saw YEARS ago, most folks have fogotten about
or never saw at all so............THEY'RE NEW ROUTINES! lol.

That was going to my question...seems to me that shows like that don't change much, so most people wouldn't go back again, even if they liked it. I did really enjoy their show when I saw it years ago, esp since my gf hasn't seen it, but I'm sure it would feel a bit repetitive to me.

I saw them for the first time two weeks ago. It was an ok show only complaint is the long buildup to some of the tricks. They did most of the stuff in this thread. the bullet catch, Cutting a lady in half. The Metal Detector. The flag burning. Their was one they said was new the "teapot" which was basically tipping Teller and it looks like his feet are off the ground and water and some other items come out his spout/arm.

One of the ones I never made it to! I like Penn, I liked watching him on Celebrity Apprentice, and I actually was listening to some of his podcasts today. I gotta check this one out.

Saw them last month from the VIP seats...first row center. We enjoyed the show although some of the tricks I wasn't fooled or impressed by. Particularly the nail gun trick and the video camera trick. Also I don't buy that P&T don't use plants in their shows as they claim.

One of the tricks we enjoyed the most was Teller pulling coins out of the fish tank. One of the least flashy tricks of the night but also one of the tricks where we were like, "How the f*** did he do that?"

Had them sign our programs after the show. Also ran into Penn at McCarran on Thursday afternoon on his way to LAX.

But we enjoyed the show a lot and it was a nice change of pace from seeing Cirque shows all the time.

Just got off a SWA flight and there is a coupon (page length) for 2:1 tickets which we used two years ago....got 4th row on the aisle and were close enough to see it all clearly....AT THE TIME the tickets were like 94 $ + service charge or something but for 100 $ for two, it was worth it to us. Look around page 6-10 of the Spirit magazine.....good through November I think......
