    some are fakes
    some have no value
some are the same that are given in the casinos
some just allow you to wait in a shorter line and then you still have to pay

    Avoid them

For the most part the passes are legit... but they are ones that with a little bit of footwork you can usually get for free yourself - almost all the clubs will have women going around the casino, hanging around casino entrances or out and about on the casino property giving away free passes.

This!! They arent a ripoff exactly, because generally they do work as stated on the pass. Its just that you can sometimes get the same passes for free if you ask around or do some homework.

Yeah, like a few that come to mind:

Luxor: the girls handing out LAX passes usually patrol the area where the walkway to Excalibur is (getting people from Excalibur but also going from the front desk to the hotel tower)

Monte Carlo: the girls are usually either in the area where the elevators are, or they are in the casino near the food court, right where the casino ends and the hotel lobby begins (thats usually where the ice lounge girl is, the one by the elevators is the one for Brand)

Caesars Palace: they usually out front around Serendipity

Planet Hollywood: out on the sidewalk in front of the Miracle Mile casino entrance

Aria: I've seen them a few times down around the sportsbook area or in the casino near the lobby

As said, these girls work for the club at the hotel so they aren't charging for the passes - their job is to give them away and get people to come to the clubs so they just go around asking people about going to the club and will give the passes away to anybody.

Auggie, what time of day (or night) is best to look for the girls who hand out the passes?

    Thanks

Don't waste your time with them - the passes generally will work on the average night out but they generally will not work if it is busy, past 11pm on a weekend, the club has a big name dj, or any other reason you may want to go to the club... it is still 100% up to the digression of the doorman/bouncer. Usually the passes have fine print saying something along the lines of:
"This pass does not promise entry - entry to XXX Club is based on club host discretion"

Like others have said, just contact a club host directly and get on the list, sometimes it is even free when done this way .... much more of a sure fire choice than dealing with random guys on the street.

Generally legit, and could be worth it

I have also picked them up from a site online for .99 each.
I personally don't want to wander around looking for these passes. Paying for the convenience could be worth it.
The guys on the street typically aren't "selling" (I would walk away if they tried)--usually they are free, but they expect a tip. Not a bad price for saving me time.

They usually aren't out until later in the day, like after 6 or 7PM.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. No reason to pay money for something free.

I agree with you in theory...

But I am willing to pay a few dollars to save me a ton of time. If you are looking to go to a couple of different clubs in a night or over the course of your trip, you could spend a chunk of time hitting he various clubs during the day, plus you aren't always sure they will be there handing them out when you get there? If you are staying on the strip but want to hit clubs at the Palms, or if you are staying on south strip & want to hit a club on north strip--spending a few dollars is SO worth it to me. For less than $10 I ordered a bunch of passes from freevegasclubpasses.com (they sometimes toss some in free, too)--these passes covered several trips--in fact I had so many, I gave some away. $10 that saved me hours...WORTH IT!

(reminds me of when my doctor mentioned she couldn't believe anyone would pay to have their recyclables picked up....ummmm....we do $9/month. Worth the hour+/month & the ick factor...yep, I make NOWHERE near what she makes!)

Of course, when it comes to rooms in Vegas--why pay when you can get free? (but some won't stay at IP, they would much rather pay!) To each his own!

We're at the top Vegas clubs at an average of every 4 weeks. I think I have somewhat a good knowledge of how these work. Personally I wouldnt pay for those passes away from the property that the club is at. I never do those passes as we get on guestlists or just buy pre-sale tickets for the major clubs.

Those passes are only for the places that usually arent as popular. Thats why they need these wristbands/passes to bring you in. If they say $10 each, dont pay for it. Many cases these passes should be free. They want you to come into the club since they suck. LOL. There's a reason for it. :p

Thats just my personal opinion. Many of the places handing these passes out need business and theres no reason for you to pay for a pass.

I'm always skeptical about these things as well, but I have used them a couple times and have always worked. Generally they are free but the guys usually work on tips. I've always just given $10 for 2-4 passes depending on the club.

A number of times you get to the door and they want $20-40 cover charge and you hand them the pass and don't pay. I'm sure if you plan stuff it would all be free but often if it's last minute you stand in line for a long time waiting to get in.

From my experience, even at the top clubs and they are busy, you pay the door man enough and he gets you right in even if it's a 2 hour wait. It's easy to spend $500 in a night this way - especially with $20 drinks, but hey, it's Vegas.

    OK...

clearly if one is looking to go to the top clubs, you are going to expect to pay through the nose to get in--grease the doorman, pop for bottle service. Not worried about free passes...

but for the majority of the population who just wants a taste of the LV nightclub life..the passes could save

no you dont have to do all that.

Get there early at 9:30-10:30 in most nights at Marquee, XS or Surrender, you can get in within 30min or faster on the Gen Admission line. It moves pretty quick. Youre just paying regular cover.

And if you plan early enough, you can get pre-sale tickets and pay a little less than what they charge at the door and there are different lines for pre-sale tickets and you usually get in right away. little or no line.

Also if you have a high girl/guy ratio, you can get in Guestlists on certain nights(no guestlist on top clubs on Sat usually), and that is free. Just have to get there around 10 since GL closes at 11pm.

Selling these tickets is actually a good move on the promoters part.

For one, they make a small profit by selling them, but two, when someone *actually* buys them they are almost certainly going to go to the club. Whereas if someone hands me a free pass I might just chuck it because nothing free is ever any good.

That being said, these passes are still a bit of a scam.

First time falling for something like this a guy said he could get us VIP to Haze at Aria free drinks until 11:30 and no wait...well we show up and give our names, get checked in and are directed to an escalator to go down to the club....yep in line for about 45min. Get inside go to the bar for "ladies drink free" and wait in another long line...one drink before the free drinks end. BUT in the end we had a kick a$$ time dancing the night away..would I do it again? nope! I'll just dance at carnival court and have just as good of time dancing!
