In addition to Guy Savoy, we made to several other places that were new to us. Luckily, all of them were successes.

    MOZen Bistro

The day of our Guy Savoy experience, we had a light breakfast and were in search of a lunch that wouldn't bust our bellies but still be tasty. We were at Aria at the time, and not finding anything very inspiring for lunch there, I remembered hearing good things about MOZen Bistro at the Mandarin Oriental next door.

We toddled over and were one of only a few parties for lunch there. This place sort of serves at Mandarin Oriental's coffee house, so it has quite a varied menu, with some relatively standard "American" items, but also a sampling of Asian dishes. We ordered from both sides, it turned out.

I had the Mediterranean Wrap, which was a smattering of grilled vegetables with tzatziki sauce.

As you can tell, it was a healthy serving of both the wrap and the delicious fries. The wrap was grilled itself, which gave it a welcome crisp. The entire thing was delicious. BTW, I asked for a side of mayonnaise for my fries, and I got this:

    Could that be more adorable?

My partner decided to go with the lunch Bento Box, which was basically a tour of Asia, with Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Indian selections:

This is truly a bargain at $36 because you're basically getting a feast of flavors.

The meal was really enjoyable. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the hotel, so you have something of a view of City Center. It's in light tones and very quiet, which makes it a nice respite from the casino restaurants. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. Overall, it was a very nice meal, and we'll likely be back at some point, especially for their breakfast, which I've also heard great things about.

    Estiatorio Milos

This had been on my list ever since I heard about their three-course meal begun last year for the low, low price is $20.11; they raised the price to $20.12, amazingly enough.

The room is gorgeous -- even without us not sitting on the deck. The light woods and clean colors did transport me to Greece.

I started with the meze plate, consisting of tarama (a roe-based spread), tzatziki, and htipiti (feta and pepper spread).

Holy smokes was this good. Luckily they also had a bread basket, because those pitas weren't enough to sop every bit of these dips off the plate. So tasty.

Next was the lavraki, a whole Mediterranean bass:

I had heard raves about this. It was very good, but not life-altering. I might try something else next time; my partner's tuna burger looked awfully good and the shoestring zucchini fries were tasty.

I concluded with the yogurt parfait:

Perfect Greek yogurt with berries and a little honey. Yes, please.

It was a great lunch, food-wise. However, the pacing of the meal was just too slow for us. I understand that they are a fine dining establishment, but I don't need to have a 100-minute lunch, frankly. The pacing was off, as was the service, really -- too often, we were without water, and our plates were left on our table far too long.

Overall though it was a great bargain for great food -- you just may want to tell them you have some place to be.

    Mob Bar

We hadn't really planned on eating here, but a Foursquare check-in gave us a free appetizer, so we, um, got three. For some reason, I didn't take pictures of the chicken parm sliders or whatever else we had (we were drinking a little), but I did take pictures of the spaghetti and meatballs:

See, they come as individual bites. So clever and sooooo tasty. The drinks we had there were great too and the bartenders were often. This is definitely a go-to place downtown for us.

    Du-Par's

Finally, we made it to Du-Par's, located in the former Bay City Diner at the Golden Gate. They are supposed to have the best pancakes in America (and therefore the world):

Verdict? I will still say that Golden West in Baltimore has the best "special" pancakes I've ever had (brie zucchini? um, YES), but I have to agree: Du-Par's has the best regular pancakes I've ever had. They had the right balance of crisp and cake, the middle was cooked through, and they tasted amazing.

Also, our server (big guy) was SO good. It was such a great breakfast. I can't wait to go back.

So, along with hitting some favorites (Earl of Sandwich, the adult lemonade kiosk at Caesars), we also found some great new places. Success!

PS: we also hit the Aria buffet, which was quite tasty and a definite option for the future if we're staying there ever.

Thanks for the reviews - I'll definitely have to check out MOZen Bistro for lunch the next time we're staying at Aria

It's the little kiosk at Caesars just down the steps from the Bellagio skybridge. They are so good!
