A friend of mine is staying at the Flamingo right now, and when they got to their room yesterday, they were greeted by a letter and two glow sticks. They did not have water or electricity from midnight (last night) until 10:00 this morning. Wow. I could live without the lights, maybe, but no flushing? In the entire place? No thanks.... Wonder if the elevators are working?

    Result of Linq construction?

Was that a planned event or an outage?

Maybe they’re trying to get LEED certified? :rolleyes2:

Seriously though, midnight until 10 am?! That’s pretty much the only time that lights and water are necessary! Hope your friend got some nice comps out of that ordeal. I know I woulda been raising hell. :grrr:

Hope they rebated some of the room rates or added comps somehow for this inconvenience. That is a long time to be without water or power when you are trying to enjoy your vacation.

Hey, but the room is comped, and that's way better than paying a little more for a room across the street at Caesar's, right?

This happened to us on Dec. 20, 2009 at MB. We checked in and went to our room. About ten minutes later, housekeeping was knocking on our door. I opened it up and was presented with a flashlight, two bottles of water, and a letter of explanation. The lights and water would be off for about 5 hours overnight, and they were (on by 5 or 6). It stated that it was for yearly maintenance, but the elevators would still work. The casino floor's activity was limmited that night, too. They had shut down a few areas about 10 pm. There wasn't any compensation given to us, we didn't ask for any. I did feel sorry for those guests that had to leave really early in the morning without water (no shower) or lights. Hopefully, this won't be an issue in July when we are at the Flamingo.

Her three rooms are not comped. I believe it is a planned outage since the letter was waiting in the rooms when they opened the door. I don't believe the check-in folks mentioned it to them, either.

I would be asking for a reduction in room rates, no doubt! That's part of what you pay for, right? I'm going to suggest that to her.

    And Ken...LOL!!!

This is absolutely absurd. You go on vacation to relax, and you pick a hotel (presumably) over other ones because it's a NICE place to stay, and you will be comfortable. I can't help thinking that they could do this in sections, and not rent out those rooms for the selected maintenance days. I would be raising 9 kinds of hell at the front desk to get some serious charges taken off.

Its not that easy to take sections of a hotel offline. Hotel rooms interlap, kind of like a jigsaw puzzle. They would have to start several days earlier, meaning lost revenue for several days. I would definately ask for that night to be comped, and really I dont think they will even be surprised if you ask.

I'm sure the casino doesn't want to cut the power or water. Maybe they had to replace a pipe or something. As long as I was notified beforehand I wouldn't have minded. No biggie. Especially if my room is comped.

Are you sure they were glo-sticks? Did they vibrate, or just glo? That might of been your compensation......hehehe

Comped ain't free. In fact, a lot of comped rooms cost WAY more than rack. Stuff happens, of course, but providing basic services is a basic service, not a perk.

We were at Rio some number of NYEs ago when all the juice went out over in that area near Valley View and Flamingo.

Hey, if the power goes off no biggie. But it sounds to me like they knew of the outage before hand, and still rented the rooms out. Just as they don't want to be out the $$$ in lost occupancy, I'm sure our unfortunate guest didn't want to be out the inconvenience on his trip. I would not have been a happy camper. Or, I would've gone out for the night and stumbled back after 10 am and seen the note and been highly confused :drunk:

I would imagine that sort of thing will be happening more and more
as the construction for LING continues....and not just for the Flamingo.

They rented the rooms months ago. I doubt that they planned the outage that far in advance. Hotels have to do this all the time. Along with window washing, vent cleaning, etc. If plumbing is bad somewhere and needs fixed, then they are not going to wait a couple of months, they are going to schedule it as soon as possible. The front desk should have said something though. Think about it. The last time your pipes were clogged, did you plan it? Did you plan the last time you got a hole somewhere? They DO plan when possible, but things like this usually cannot be avoided.

Has anyone had this experience at a Vegas hotel NOT named the Flamingo?
