Comping two drinks at $1 VP?

I'm going to Vegas with a friend who doesn't really have a budget for gambling (which is fine, it's not her thing and she's happy for us to split up for a few hours during the day). If I'm playing $1 VP (JOB) at a casino bar (Planet Hollywood more than likely) will they comp both of us a beer or does she have to be playing, period? If this is possible, what's the lowest play they would do it for?

Same question really for playing slots.

 

For playing at the casino bar you really should just ask when you sit down what they need you to play for comp drinks and if you can get some for your friend or not.

In that case its just better to be 100% clear with the bartender working that shift right then than relying on somebody saying "Oh yeah when I was there two years ago I was able to play minimum and get free drinks for me and my buddy" and then finding out at the end of it that you owe $8-12 per drink and thinking they were free the two of you were knocking them back pretty good.

On the casino floor, from the cocktail waitress: I remember years ago on the cocktail doll website she used to go on and on about how drinks were for people playing, not just sitting around or watching people play, and that she would tell people she can't serve them unless they are playing... but I have never once experienced that at any casino.

There are plenty of times each trip that I will just sit next to my wife and we'll just talk while she is playing or the other way around when I am playing she'll come and sit or stand next to me and when the waitress comes around she'll take both our orders.

That said, if your friend is just going to sit there while you play all she really has to do is just put a couple of bucks in the machine she is seated at, whether she pushes spin or not. And thats actually not a bad idea to do either way in case somebody comes by and asks to play that machine - if she has credits in the machine, even if she isn't playing, they are unlikely to ask for her machine.

 

If you are taking a female friend with no money then she is expecting you to pay for everything.

Just a reminder so when you want something to eat, you already know that she is expecting.

She most likely will have top shelp expectations as well so dont try to buy a cheapo hot dog because that wont do.

Not saying this will happen but there is a strong likelyhood of it.

 

Just throw $20 in the machine for her, have her play 1 hand at 5 credits, even just quarters and enjoy. Tip each round and no worries.

oth, if the bartender is going to be an ass about it and say she is not playing enough, move to another bar and don't overtip him/her.

Some places management can be real dicks about having the bartenders enforce the playing rule, or only free drinks for 5 coin in, but not too often.

 

I'm not taking a female friend with no money, I'm taking a female friend with no gambling budget as I said originally. She has plenty of money for food, entertainment, drinking and things she wants to do. I was just asking about the situation when I am gambling and she is not.

 

When we took our 23-year old daughter last year, she liked to play roulette, and actually did pretty good. I always watched her but didn't play myself. Anytime a waitress came by, she always asked me if I wanted anything, and this was at several different casinos. Maybe they knew I was bankrolling her!!

 

Sign your friend up for a players card or let her play on a second card you have. a card in the machine with an obvious bungee cord will help the drink waitress with an excuse to get her drinks.

When you are playing slots your friend won't have any problem at all getting free drinks while sitting next to you. My brother did this once, just sat next to me, put a couple of bucks in the machine so it showed some credits, and got served the whole time.

As far as VP I have no idea!

Usually they expect some attempt at playing. Front her $20 and let her dabble at quarters. This is what I do with my wife, and we've never had a problem. Of course an appropriate tip should accompany this method.
As far as slots, we've never had a problem at all.

 

Most casinos will bring you two drinks, depends on the niceness of the waitress.

If she doesn't, act rude to her, if she brings two, tip her $3

 

It depends on the policy of the casino beverage department. Bartenders and CW's are watched and video taped by the camera in the sky the same as the dealers. These policies vary from place to place and there's no one answer that covers all.
Please try to not blame the front line people for trying to keep their jobs. Even the unions can't save them from violating the rules and firings are quite common.

 

I can't comment on a casino bar as I've never done that. I would simply ask the bartender your question at that time. In no way should you feel bad about asking, this is vegas and comps are just part of vegas. If they really do act rude to you, simply don't play there.


When playing at a machine. I'm not sure if VP would be different. When I'm out in Vegas with my mom, ~98% of the time I'm playing slots, I'm sharing a slot machine with her. She is sitting down and I'm on her side. I'm not sure if they actually look that if both of us are actually playing or not. I'll just say, there has never been a time where both of us couldn't get a drink.

While I have no proof, I disagree with the comments above about CWs having cameras on them and proving only people playing get drinks. These drinks cost $0.30-$1 tops. If a casino is actually tracking that more than the $25 bets on the tables, I'd be shocked. I'd simply suggest being nice to the CW, and tipping for each drink(duh....) and I think you will do fine.

I dont play bar poker but do play many table games, and often my wife sits or stands next to me, have never had an issue with us both getting a drink tipping $1 per drink

 

Too many people will tell you about what happened with them, often the opposite of the last person.

Results at the bar will be different then on the floor.
Idea... Why not play two machines with your money?

Many casinos have a pretty strict one drink per gambler per round policy on the floor. I can't imagine that at the bar where they are already monitoring bets to see who qualifies for a drink would then give so easy on comping two drinks. I agree on letting her play with your bankroll if you want to get both drinks comped or since she has money for drinks, let her buy her own.

 

At the bar they can be a bit anal about this.

On the floor--should be no problem.

Remember, Vegas is TIP CITY--take care of them and they will take care of you. The whole town is built on this.

 

Find a machine at the bar that has blackjack; have her take $20 of her drinking budget and put it in the machine; play $1 per hand slowly.

This is in my opinion one of the cheapest ways to drink in vegas.

 

The majority of my play is VP at casino bars.

No, they won't comp you both a beer if only one is playing, even at the $ level. They probably would if you were a "regular" heavy bar-top gambler that they knew by name.

Some casino's will have engraved plates on the bar-top machines stating "must play max bet for comped drinks" (or something along those lines). Also, many bars now have the bar-top machines hooked up to their computer screen and they are able to see, at a glance, the machines being played, and the denominations.

You have to think of it as a "regular" bar where many people just like to get a top-shelf drink and pay for it.
