Slots Thoughts on Themed Slot Machine Pays

Hey, slot machine fans.

Here's an observation. I know that in Vegas and most places that slot machine payout percentages are generally lower the lower the denomination the machine. However, in NYC there's a casino (its actually really nice, who knew) regulated by the lottery where each machine must pay out 92%.

I noticed 2 things:

1) on the Sex and the City slot machines, the progressives increase at about 3X the rate they do in Vegas. E.g., the Miranda bonus was at $75, I hit it, and 5-7 minutes late it was back up to $75 again.


2) Other than Sex and the City there are no other "licensed" games. I.e., there are no Hangover, Monopoly, Star Wars, Price is Right, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek etc. games-- and this is a place with all new slot machines, and thousands of them.


Taken together, I'm gathering that the licensing fees on themed slot machines may generally be fairly high and the casinos offset this with lower payouts on those machines or on lowering the payouts on all of their machines, generally, to account for the fees on some machines.

I know this isn't a thrilling revelation or anything, but I had always blown off my friend's avoiding of themed slots on this basis, thinking there wasn't really much of a difference. Anyway, thoughts??

That is my belief.
Casino is not going to sacrifice profit for licensing.
The casino has to pay the machine lease, licensing of name/movie, and a profit...has to all come from somewhere, and that's the house hold

 

Very true...
The hold on licenced theme games is set by the manufacturer, the casino has no say in the matter. But if the casino doesn't make money on them they don't stay. Normally the hold on these games are 2-4% higher than comparable, non-licenced games.
