    Hi All,

Has anyoine ever stayed at the Desert Rose Resort, which is located behind MGM?

I have read pages of 4 & 5 star reviews, but I am mainly wondering if it is actually safe to walk from the strip to this property at night, before midnight?

A couple of reviews from people that stayed there, said the area was well lit and safe, even at night, to walk from the strip back to the hotel. I am just wondering. And they claim it is a 10 minute walk to the strip and a 5 minute walk to MGM.

This property sure gives you a lot of bang for your buck, and my husband and I are seriously considering it. Thier web site boast Free breakfast with hot items, such as ham and sausage, a daily free happy hour with free beer and wine and snacks, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, and a separate bedroom and living/dining area. It really is like a condo.

We originally had decided to stay at the Flamingo, but after reading reviews about their pool policies, and rude attitude, we are going to pass on that. And yes, we are CET members and now I don't have any comps for "rooms" whereas a month ago I did. I didn't make a reservation then, because I never dreamed comps would disappear according to the time of year.LOL Okay, I am naive.

We will be in Vegas Sept. 16th - Sept. 20th.

We will rent a car for a few days of our vacation, so walking isn't a big issue all of the time.

I look forward to any help about how the property actually is and safety of walking when needed. And yes, I always make a note of my surroundings, the people, etc.

    Thanks in advance:nworthy:

I don't know that much about the Desert Rose. I can tell you that most of the conversations about the place on TA are generated by Europeans. There is more interest in condo style and family friendly accommodations from them and cost is a factor as well. I honestly don't pay much attention to the talk because they are looking for stuff completely contrary to my interests and sometimes I feel like some of the reviewers for that place are too easily impressed.

I stayed there and very much enjoyed it.

Full apartment with full sized kitchen, all the plates and forks and pots you would ever need.

They are very bice there as well.

They serve free continental type breakfast in the am. quite a bit more item then i expected even though i cooked my own bacon and eggs every day.

They also serve beer and wine in the afternoons for a couple of hours free so that is awesome.

The pool is like you have at an apartment complex but it was nice not to feel self conscious about using it. just a couple of kids and an old lady druing the peak of summer were in it. Same with the jacuzzi, no one in it.

I used the gym too, had the place to myself. small but clean.

Its bascially in the parking lot of hooters right across from mgm so its safe. There isnt much of a neighborhood around it more of a business park type area so its real quite. I guess it would be about as safe as a business park too if that helps.

It saved me alot of money on meals plus they have free wi fi so I took my laptop.

i would gladly stay there again.

Thanks CousinEddie for the review on the Desert Rose.

I meant to get back to you a lot sooner, but alas, time gets away.

I am going to re check the Desert Rose web site and see what prices and availabilty they may have for us. Dates have changed. Going two weeks earlier now.

    alternative

I just thought I would throw this out there for you to consider. If you are looking for a condo type place have you checked out the hilton flamingo grand vacation club? It sits behind the Flamingo, has great reviews and is easy access to flamingo, bally's, and paris. One of the things they used to offer (not sure if they still do) was access to pool at the Flamingo. The hotel does have its own pool thought. I am attaching link so you can check it out.

    Signature at MGM

Another option you may want to consider is The Signature at MGM. Travelzoo is currently running a special for $69 a night. Must be booked by June 22nd.

I am so going to check out Travelzoo for the Signature as well. 69.00 a night is a wonderful deal.

Can you tell me anything else about the Signature? Like does it have easy access via a car, how is parking etc.?

    Thanks so much!!!

    We stayed at the Signature

The Signature is wonderful if you have a car. We used the valet service everytime, would call down from the room and walk down to the lobby. Never had to wait any longer that a couple of minutes. We always came in from the back so we didn't have to drive on the strip.

The hotel was quiet. Each tower has their own pool and you can use the MGM pools as well. Really nice access to the monorail as well.

But you do have to pay a $25 a night resort fee.

The two times I have been in Vegas I stopped at The Desert Rose, a good place to crash at night and you dont have the noise of The Strip, but you are only a short walk away from it all.
I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to stop at a casino hotel, very friendly staff and clean nice apartment rooms
