I have offers from each casino host which are remarkably similar (meaning not comped, darn it). I can't figure out which one in which to accept.

I have never stayed at the 4 Queens, but I have stayed at the remodeled Plaza on my last trip and I really liked the room. For a low-roller that just needs a bed and shower, the Plaza was very nice. But for a low-roller that just needs a bed and shower, I am sure the 4 Queens fits the bill, too. This is a poker tournament trip with the boys. One group is staying at The D, and one group is already booked at the Plaza (which may be a reason for me not to stay there). I don't share rooms (I snore, and hate when others do, too) so it would be myself in the room.

Each day, we hit three or four poker tournaments around town with buy-ins in the $40-$75 range. This gives us the opportunity to casino hop, to check out various parts of town, etc. This also means that the only gambling at our "home" casinos is reduced to a little bit in the mornings or at night before bed. It lowers the chance that much of our hotel bill can be taken off.

So as my kids say "HMU". Where do I want to stay?

The Four Queens is pretty dull. Even the remodeled rooms are very basic. This isn't to say the Plaza is deluxe, but it is more newly remodeled and definitely more modern in its decor. Plus, I think the Plaza casino has more life. It also has a pool.

On the other hand, the coffee shop at the Four Queens is pretty good (even if I always have a long wait there), and better for a cheap late night meal. Unless you get a South Tower room, the Four Queens rooms on lower floors can be louder because of the Fremont Street Experience.

You can always book both, seeing them both, deciding which you want and then letting your friends use the lesser one.

Not that location means TOO much downtown, but I think I would go with 4 Queens simply becuase it is kitty corner to Fremont/GN/The D, which I find to be the most fun props.

But if you prefer Main Street Station/Cal/Golden Gate. Plaza is probably the better bet.

I have had rooms at both and there is no comparison. The new Plaza rooms are pretty nice (of course it is still the Plaza, but much better than before). The Four Queens rooms are awful. I would not stay there unless I really had nowhere else. The Plaza is trying and it just might make it.

I guess you have to weigh all the factors involved ...

    >> Do you want to be with your buddies at the Plaza at the far end of Fremont ?
    >> Do you want to be alone at 4Q, in the center of Fremont ? We have stayed at 4Q many times, and the rooms are small, but always neat & clean.
    >> If you wish to play any video poker in the morning or evening, the 4Q has a much better inventory than the Plaza.

The 4 Q's south tower rooms are better than the Plaza's IMO, but I'm comparing pre refurbishment, the queens other rooms are smaller and much older. Just thought I'd toss that out.

If a pool is an issue, then I would pick Plaza. If I didnt care about a pool, I would pick the 4 Queens, but only if I could guarantee the South tower. I didnt care for the North Tower. I like the restaurants in the 4 Queens better, and like the location better. Really cant go wrong with either though....

Thanks for the help. I am likely going to go to the Plaza... I just had never been in the 4 Queens rooms so I didn't know the condition. As a group, when we are done with poker we usually play at Binions (and, exactly why, I am never sure) so I was working with a Binions host.

But everything else points to the Plaza, so that's where I am planning on booking.

I've done the Plaza three times. Once in the old days and twice since the redo.
I've done the 4Q four times.

    My pick is the Plaza.

My wife and I just stayed at the Plaza. Our first hotel stay downtown, always have stayed on the strip for years. We loved the size of our room at the Plaza, great view Freemont, the staff connected our friends room at no extra charge for him to have a view room. We will stay at the Plaza again for sure.

I just recently stayed at the Plaza and stay the 4Q at least twice a year. Rooms nicer at Plaza but the casino was dead. Restaurants nicer at Plaza also (although I love Hugo's). The biggest thing for me is if you are a VP player then the 4Q wins hands down. For me nothing else matters. I want the best gambling when in Vegas!

I stayed at both places. Unfortunately I don't like the gambling at either place. The craps table at the 4q is horrendous, pit crew unfriendly and seem to be going through the motions. The plaza craps table is no better so I usually go elsewhere to gamble.

Roomwise I think the plaza wins hands down so a lot of where I stay will depend on hotel rates. Won't pay more for either place so I would probably stay at the cheaper place.

I was offered $50/$20/$20 at the 4 Queens on Sat/Sun/Mon
I was offered $55/$25/$25 at the Plaza (told you they were similar!)

I booked the Plaza, I can see myself spending more time there.

guess I have to agree with you, for $15 more I would think about staying at the plaza instead.

Make sure you see Mike Hammer's Comedy Magic show at 4 Queens. It's a riot.

We saw him last October Sam! You're right, a real funny, quick witted guy. My wife took her mother to see him a couple of months ago. She said it was a very different show, he is so good at going off script, depending on the answers he gets from the audience. A very good value show as well, I think we only paid about $10 each for tickets. I just love downtown.
