How big a mess is it? Does it make the usually annoying pathway through Carnival Court altogether impassible, or is it not that bad?

I was there last weekend and the area around Carnaval Court wasn't too bad. It got a little tight at times, but I suspect that the construction only made the walk between Harrah's and Flamingo about than 4-5 minutes longer. In other words, not a big deal.

For me last week, it was no different than any other time and with the porte cochere of IP blocked off, not possibly waiting on a car through there might have actually sped it up.

Just got home yesterday and walked this area quite a bit. I thought it was a bit claustrophobic when people were trying to go both directions on the makeshift walkway, especially if there were large, slow moving groups (less room to dodge). Also, you could hear lots of construction sounds (heavy equipment) throughout the area. It was a little more noticeable than I had anticipated. It was enough to catch your attention, but by no means constant.

Got home yesterday and that area is quite congested. Given the congestion and jackhammering I wouldn't recommend staying at IP anytime soon(not that I would anyway).
Should be interesting when it's done anyway.

    linq construction & Flamingo

Hi. . . we have booked into Flamingo Sept 21 to 25 with pretty good rates ($70 ave per night Fab rooms), but I was reading the current ELV newsletter which talked about the Linq construction going on. . . Is it as bad as I might think? with scaffolding and basically that whole block under a covered walkway? Should I be considering moving to Monte Carlo, Exc, NYMY or Trop or something like that? or is the construction not that significant??

    Thanks in advance

I walked past/through all the construction last month and I think you are ok at Flamingo. Walked through and outside the front of the Flamingo and didn;t get any sense of the construction. IP, however, is like a demilitarized zone! met some folks staying at IP and they said the construction noise was bad there, but Flamingo seemed ok

For Flamingo the only issue will probably be if you would like to play at Harrahs or IP. If you do, it might be quicker to actually go back to the monorail & take that up. (It seriously probably won't be quicker, but might be less stressful & definitely less foot traffic).

Otherwise, you could cross over at Bills to CP & then walk up the west sidewalk & cross back to Harrahs via the crosswalk in front of Mirage/Forum Shoppes.

There are at least a couple ways to avoid the congestion if you want to play 'north' of Flamingo.

I don't think any congestion will come close to the packed street in front of IP & OSheas on St Pat's before the rain started.. I think it took us about 15 minutes to get from Carnaval Court area to Margaritaville - and that is a SHORT area. But we were literally moving a couple inches at a time.

We got back yesterday from a stay at the Flamingo. We were facing the strip and could see the old OShea's building is gutted with the ceiling cut out in between beams and a couple new openings on the side of the building. Looks like they plan to reuse the structure as part of a taller one.

Our only walk to Imperial Palace was late the first night to make our routine trip to Ginseng III for Korean food and play at the bar by the Dealertainer area. Bad news, the bar area is walled off and being renovated to be the new (or extended) frond desk area. Bummer, my favorite spot and machine are no more. Hense the reason for our only walk to the IP.

Staying at the Falmingo was fine with no real loud construction noise. We slept late each day.

Darn, I'll just have to stick to properties where I won't feel dirty just by walking in :p

Update about Flamingo and construction issues

My mom and stepdad flew to Vegas on saturday and have stayed 3 nights at Flamingo.

When they got to the hotel early evening saturday, there were no parking spot available for the rental car and the valet was being reserved for diamond/seven stars members.

My stepdad (the genius) parked in a spot that wasn't a spot 6 ft from a fire hydrant. When they got out to their car the next morning it was being loaded onto a tow truck. Now, had this been me and my husband I would've had him drop me off with the luggage and had him park at Bill's, Bally's or anywhere he could've parked.

They spent 2 hours and $280 at the tow lot, not to mention the cost of cab fare to get there. She didn't tell me how much that cost.

This morning there was no hot water in the hotel so none of the restaurants were open and they had to take cold showers and leave the hotel to get any coffee and some breakfast. I'm thinking this wasn't planned, as they didn't know about it before hand and usually they'll leave a flyer in your room to tell you when things like this might affect your stay.

I'm not trying to be hard on the Flamingo, heck, I'm booked there for a stay in august myself. I know the parking thing was his fault, and obviously it was a busy holiday weekend. Just thought you guys might want to know about some of the chaos the construction is causing.

Hope they reported this to the hotel and tried to get compensation.

I don't think they talked to anyone at the hotel. My mom was so mad I think she kept quiet to keep from losing her cool, but she said she will be writing a letter when she gets home.

I have a funny feeling that they won't get much for sympathy when they parked where they shouldn't have. Was the parking facility labeled as full? If not, then there most likely was a space on some level that he didn't want to keep looking for (not being critical - just human nature).

Sometimes they will still valet guests staying at the hotel, however, that also varies with events at that time - you definitely need to ask. I ended up with the Diamond only sign 2 years ago in July as they had about 4000 sports kids there for a tournment of some type. Howevever, if you asked & were a registered guest, they still took you. Otherwise, yes, Bill's would have been my next shot too or Ballys.

I would expect some type of at least minor compensation for the hot water issue (depending on how long it was out) if they request it nicely. Maybe ask for a meal credit at a future stay, etc. My friends had room issues & when she sent a letter she did receive a $50 meal voucher - even if they were staying at a different property. They will probably get more asking nicely now than the people who screamed & yelled at them that morning did (and you KNOW some were doing it!)

Yeah, I don't think they'll get much sympathy from the car being towed either. Even I wasn't very sympathetic on that one! That lame brain move is just par for the course for my mom's husband.

I don't know what kind of compensation she expects, or if she expects anything and just wants to vent.

I wonder if it's worse at Harrahs and IP, or if the implosion of the parking structure behind O'sheas is just specifically affecting Flamingo in the way of parking. You would think they will do something in the future to accomodate parking guests, but maybe not until all this is almost over and maybe they'll build another garage or something.

    Flamingo Construciton

I normally stay at Flamingo or PH. I will be in town on 8/25. Does anyone have first hand knowledge on the contruction around Flamingo? I would like to stay there for the pool, but was wondering what impact LINQ has on the hotel and pool?

    Thanks.

From what I have heard you can hear some of the construction if you are in a room close to it starting somewhat early in the morning. Everyone I have heard from say it didnt bother thme because they were up before it started getting to bad.

I have not heard anything about if affecting the pool at all.

How about getting from the airport to the hotel entrance - going into it at the back? When we were there in Jan. construction was right up to the turn into the back drive up to the hotel registration area. Has that expanded? Can we still tell the taxi driver to go the usual way?
