    My Trip Report

Ever feel like :grrr:? I've been that way for a whole month - My wife is pregnant with twins. We just bought a new house and I've been doing all of the work to make a house a home, take care of preggo and hold down my job.. and I just had it.

I had plans with a friend that fell through rather dramatically.. And that was it.

I had enough miles with United to book a last-minute trip from Houston to Vegas and made the reservation at 2:00 pm. Called the pet boarding place and got my dog in for the weekend. By 4:00 pm I was on my way to the airport. I got bumped up to first class (Apparently, if you have status and a United credit card, you can upgrades on non-paid-for tickets!) and, after a few drinks in the lounge, by 8:00 I was sitting and drinking on the plane.

It was the first time I had ever taken a flight without any bags. No carry on bags and nothing checked. Just the shirt on my back, my phone, music player and charge cables for both. And my wallet. It IS Vegas...

Three and a half hours later, Landed in McCarran around 9:30 pacific. The cab line was *insane.* It's actually funny how those situations work. The women were all networking and trying to share cabs wherever possible. The men just stand there and shoot the bull or mind their own business. I found a young lady heading my way and offered to split a cab - I was only able to score a free room at IP on such short notice. But, that ended up not being a big deal.

My new friend was staying at MGM signature and I just decided to walk from there. Man, the walk from the Signature to MGM is ridiculous.

Looking to head north, I walk to the SW corner of MGM and find a big mess. Ugh. They're doing construction. And they got rid of the lions!! :(. Regardless, I had to get out of there.. So I ended up walking south to Trop, West to Excalibur and then headed north up the west side of LVB.

Ugh. I remember why I dislike city center. Every other pedestrian crossing has escalators to make it easier to go up and over the streets. Not by Aria or Cosmopolitan. If you want to use motorized lifting, you have to go into the casinos or Crystals (shopping center). Ugh. So I hoofed it up and down the stairs, past the Bellagio fountains and finally to the IP.

FYI - O'Shea's closed. That's sad, though not totally unexpected. I'm not nearly as sad about that as I was when the Sahara closed.

So I get to IP and the check-in line is.. freaking ridiculous. Screw that. I go play. $25-50 BJ... I remember why I dislike CET properties.. 6:5 blackjack. Whatever. I'm not going to suss out the real thing. The singing personality dealers were a cute touch, though. Something a little more sophisticated than half-naked dancing girls.

Not that there's EVER anything wrong with half-naked dancing girls.

So I move back and forth between BJ and Pai Gow Poker. Somewhere near 2:30 AM, I start teaching this young lass how to play. We had a good time and I made back my BJ money. Her boyfriend didn't appreciate all the laughs and smiles that I was getting from her. Got all huffy and overprotective. Must be good to be young and in :blowkiss:

Around 4 AM I finally get busted off the same $300 I was playing with in IP. I go over to Flamingo. I don't know why I do this - the Flamingo *hates* me. Lost another $300 in 15 minutes. I should have known that. Ugh.

So back to IP I go for a bit and I get $100 of my $600 down back playing BJ.

I need some air so I wander over to Cosmo - they have this Texas Hold Em video game (it's not really a slot, per se, you actually play limit Hold Em against a maniacal computer opponent) that I love. Made $100 on that.

Then I wander to MGM. Play Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em and make another quick $100. Then off to BJ in MGM and make another quick $100. OK.. things are looking up. It's 8 AM and I'm only down $200.

Off to Pai Gow over at MGM. I like their Pai Gow - it's nothing at all special, but the dealers know their stuff and it's in a nice central area of the floor. And I go bonkers. Picked up $500 playing $50/hand in 4 hours. Not bad at all.

So I'm up, feeling good.. I wander over to Hooters to check that out. Pretty dead at noon on Saturday. I kindly give $100 to the BJ table, but the orange juice was served by a cute lil thing.

So, with just a couple hours to go, I wander into NYNY. I'm starving and, being from New York City originally, their pizza isn't too bad. It's also the first thing I see. So I eat two giant slices of it. $14 of pizza and soda for me. Nom Nom.

I end up blowing another $400 on BJ. Craap. With an hour to go I wander around and find my favorite video texas hold em game. Make another $100 there real fast. I really should just play that thing all day - I probably would make good money. With 30 minutes to go, I wander to Pai Gow poker and hit two $50 hands out of the park back-to-back. I lay out one more quarter bet to make it even.. seven pushes and a win right as I had to leave!

    All in all I...

Never saw the hotel room I paid for. I did, technically, check in during a shuffle at IP. But I never got to see the room. I'm told I got bumped to a mini suite. I wouldn't know.

gambled for 21 hours straight after stopping working, didn't sleep and was fully functional on just 8 hours of sleep the next day. That totally surprised me.

gambled for 21 hours straight at largely $25-$50 bets and ended up +$10 after seeing a range of [-600, +300]. I basically facilitated MGM gaming paying off CET (+475) and Hooters (+100)

Did non-poker gambling on the strip for the first time in multiple years. I had become a downtown rat about 3-4 years ago. While I had a lot of fun on this trip, it also reaffirmed that alignment - I go to Vegas to eat, drink and gamble. I can always hop on over to the strip side to play poker or eat a good meal. But the gambling is so much better downtown. Though I will concede that the eye candy on a Friday night on the strip was *quite* nice.

Got bumped to first class on both flights without paying a red cent. Status is awesome.

33 hours after I left.. 42 hours I had gotten any sleep, I get home and pass out. My mind is mush, but my soul is restored and happy. Life is good.

Hats off to you sir! Not taking any luggage (even to our most favorite place in the world) is pretty ballsy!
