During my stay at Bellagio last weekend, I spent a fair amount of time at Cosmo. And while I’ve been pretty lukewarm about the place the past several times I’ve been there, it really started to grow on me this time around.

I don’t know if I had simply interacted with the “wrong” employees on earlier trips and got the “right” ones this time. But, it seemed that they’re getting the hang of the whole customer service thing. The craps dealers I played with were a lot of fun – despite the fact that I couldn’t catch a hot streak to save my life. They didn’t show quite the same level of professionalism that the dealers at Aria, Bellagio and Wynncore do, but they were very friendly and extremely appreciative of tokes. So appreciative, in fact, that they paid me the full amount when I took odds that exceeded the maximum (I thought I had $20 on the pass line but actually only had $15, they paid me $120 on the $80 odds I had bet when I should have only had $60 on the odds) – even after checking with the boxman.

I also had a great blackjack dealer in the HL area (not the Talon Club, but the area downstairs). And, all the bartenders were first rate – extremely friendly and comp’d me premium booze at the $.25 level even when I hadn’t specified a brand.

I also did the $100 rebate deal. And let me say, it couldn’t have been easier. I don’t know if I’m a cynic or just a realist, but I assumed that there would be plenty of hoops to jump through or for one crazy reason or other, I somehow wouldn’t qualify for the promo. But, nope. It is as simple as going up to the Identity desk, showing them your id and telling them you want to do the promo. Then go lose $100. Then back to the Identity desk to get them to load the $100 on to your card. Piece of cake. (I cashed out up $250 with my freeplay, too.)

Unfortunately, I seem to have picked the wrong time to take a shine to Cosmo. The video poker that I found at the bar tops was even worse than the last time I was there (at which time it had already been downgraded from the time before that:rolleyes2:). And, the $100 DD game in the HL area had been changed to H17 – it had been S17 when I played there in January. The six deck game was still S17, with DAS, surrender and RSA. So, they still have playable games at that level. But, I do like to have the choice of a DD or shoe game. I assume that they still have the S17 DD game up in the Talon Club. But, when I walked through the place, everything was $500 mins – too rich for my blood - and it was the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday.

They’ve finally started to send me a few offers. I might just have to take them up on one of them sometime.

Anyway, this post is neither here nor there. I just don’t feel like doing a TR from my trip, so I thought I’d post a few different thoughts/observations I had in their respective forums.

Oh, and the burger at Holstein’s was fantastic!

I like Cosmo but cannot imagine giving them much BJ play with their rules. Someone posted a TR today stating that the DD game in the Talon Room was H17.

    Now where's that TR?

wow $100 DD with H17? that's pretty terrible considering what's next door on either side at the B and Aria.

Yikes, H17 in the Talon Room?! Well, BJ does seem to be an afterthought up there anyway. They seem to be catering to the Asian gamblers with bac and midi games dominating. I’m pretty sure I was the only white guy in the room when I was checking it out.

The thing that might get me to stay there is the fact that it is such an easy walk to/from Bellagio and not too bad to Aria as well. So, if/when I get tired of playing the shoe games (which, to Cosmo’s credit were as good as anyone’s) I could always go to a joint with MGM rules.

I don’t think a full-fledged TR would be terribly interesting to many. It was a solo trip with wall to wall gambling and mostly losing. I did make a nice run the last night to at least bring a few bucks home with me. I will say that I was less than thrilled with my first trip to Bellagio. The room I was promised wasn’t available (yeah, I know, the hazards of having a comp’d room) and they tried to stick me in one of the Spa Tower rooms that hadn’t been updated since early in the Carter administration. After the half hour journey back from the Spa Tower and a bit of complaining and waiting…and waiting…I was finally able to at least get one of the new rooms in the main tower with a fabulous view of a parking garage. Oh well, I did enjoy the rest of the property. But, I think Wynn and Aria shall continue to get the lion’s share of my business going forward.

In and of itself, I think Cosmo is a beautiful ultra-sleek, ultra-modern, ultra-hip hotel. Of all the hotels on the strip, the vibe and visual of Cosmo is more me...I am a middle aged guy, still somewhat a kid (I live and work in an industry of younger people, motorcycle racing), I am a techno-geek and have no problem with "today's music"
I really like Cosmo. I like the art, I like the video screens all over, I like the hip decor...I really like Cosmo

My issue is with the gaming itself. Now, keeping in mind my last time there was back in October, but I like HL slots and the HL slots at Cosmo was $25+, not $5+, $5 machines were non-existent. I am not going to jump in feet first on $25 machines, I want to work my way up...start at $5, things go well, I move up, but to go from $1 to $25 is a hell of a jump.
I also found their machines a bit on the tight side, but will accept that maybe I was having a bad weekend of bad luck there.
I also found ALL of their machines of the newer video type, even their 3-reel units. I like the mechanical reel machines, yes, I know there's still a computer in it, but I like the look and feel of the mechanical reel, not the newer super fast spinning games that double your pulls per minute...good for casino, bad for bankroll when losing.
I also had a couple negative encounters with floor staff, so that didn't help.
Overall I love the place, style and design-wise....as for the casino, I'll try it again, but it was not my cup of tea.

I really liked my comped stay at the Cosmo. They have changed some of the lower limit tables to auto shuffle (a few CSM), but I was still able to manage to find a good game and made several hundred during my stay (made more the first visit which turned into my first comp offer).

All employees were really friendly and professional, and I was glad to have generated many tokes during my wins. The balcony rooms were incredible and they are among my top 3 favorite rooms in Vegas. No resort fee and very easy access to the strip. They gave me a free upgrade room without asking at check-in and I really loved the hotel.

Meanwhile in MILFe land, they wouldn't merge my Priceline reservation with a 3 night midweek add on for a corner suite which I wanted to book. I would have paid the difference but they would either downgrade my corner suite reservation or have me check out/in after the first night and perhaps be without a room in the afternoon.

I would have paid the $50 difference in price (website of course is FUBAR but after a 10 minute phone call the call agent had me on hold but said she couldn't fulfill my request. They had CS availability and would have sold me the fourth night but wouldn't swap the existing Priceline reservation + upcharge. I guess they expected me to eat the Priceline room and pay for the corner suite room as well.

I'll play my one Priceline Aria night at Cosmo where I hope to earn future comps. I've switched my original Aria 3 night stay to a comp offer elsewhere and will save the room cost plus $80+ in resort fees & resort fee taxes.

Customer service - it still matters.
