    Hi All.

I love reading all the past posts and in the Misc Vegas chat thread I read of someone who was traveling with more than $10 cash and airport security confiscated it at the airport for being over the $10k cash limit..

I was planning on taking more than $10k on my visit in 2 weeks.
I don't want the hassle of wiring money or travelers checks or getting a line of credit..

But I don't want my cash confiscated either..It's my money and I didn't steal it, I earned it...

Have you taken more than $10k and had any hassles at the airport security..
    Thanks All..

I'm not sure about traveling in the U.S. but at the border if you declare it, there is no issues. You can have it confiscated if you don't declare it.

Otherwise there is no reason for them to confiscate it.

The $10k limit is for international travel. There is no limit for domestic travel. They do not have the right to confiscate your money on domestic travel. International they do if u do not declare it. I travel with that much and more all the time and never have any problems. Paper money does not show up on scanners. Do not worry.

I have done it three times this year without a problem. If going through a metal detector and it is in your hand it is not noticed anyway. Airports with full body scanners you have to take it out of your pocket and hold it in your hand. I usually have it in an envelope, they check it and give it back. It is only a problem with the 10k if you are coming back into the country with it, then it has to be declared and it's extra steps and a CRT report in the customs process. So only worry if you're gambling in the Carribean and win big.

just reiterating what others have said. there is no limit to how much cash you can travel with on an airplane anywhere. it's no different than traveling in a car or boat or whatever. the only issue with cash is when you're coming into the country and dealing with customs, but that's a different issue.

however, when i'm carrying large amounts of cash, i do my best to avoid the full body scanners. with the metal detectors you can just leave it in your pocket and no issues. with the full body scanners, you have to take everything out of your pockets including the cash and i don't like waving it around for everyone to see. if i have to go through a full body scanner line, i opt for the pat down instead so it's private and i don't have to take the cash out of my pocket in front of the whole world.

It's a good question. I'd take travellers cheques personally, but it would take a while to sign them all.

Because I wouldn't feel comfortable letting that much cash travel on its own.

why not? there's been multiple threads about how to get your money to Vegas, but sticking it in your pocket and jumping on a plane is by far the easiest way. $10 or $10,000 doesn't really make that big of a difference once it's in your pocket.

Exactly. A $10 000 wrapped bundle will fit into each front pocket no problem. Our even easier if u wear cargo shorts and use the buttoned cargo pocket for your cash.

I would never feel comfortable carrying that amount of cash. I had $1500 in cash on my last trip and I was worried about that. :wink2:

You also can contact your hotel casino and have that money wired to be on deposit for you and you can take it out as you need it. I'd do that before travelers checks.

I'm a Sonya - I am not comfy with that much cash. I think I had $1000 in cash one of the last trips - I hadn't received my profit bonus & DH lent me the cash. It drove me absolutely NUTS. I must have checked 43 times on the way out to see if the money was still where it should be.

Was a trip report on here earlier this year where the travel companion didn't have his cash when he arrived & I don't think he ever did find it.

Don't assume the people flying with cash are heading to a casino, many times they're flying home...yes, people really do win.
So, you have to fly home with the cash. I flew home from Biloxi once with over $40K.

As said before, the problem is only with international travel, not domestic, and even if some dog hits on you, don't sweat it, you're not doing anything illegal and your itinerary is going to show your departure/destination as LAS anyway.
Why would a dog hit on you? It's said that all cash, dollar bills, have some trace of drugs because of the drug trade, however minute, but when you stack a lot of it together, a dog can pick up on it, but again, don't sweat it. There is nothing illegal about flying domestically with any amount of cash. If you want to fly with a suitcase of cash in hand (I certainly wouldn't check it), you have every right to do so.

As for me, when/if I am flying home with a large amount of cash, I make a habit of keeping my W2G's nearby anyway, just more verification if some sensitive dog gets near me.

Never had that concern when leaving Vegas.

We found that a credit line is very simple and actually convenient.

it is, but what if u want to play big at a casino where u do not have a credit line established? Or be spontaneous and play at a casino you hadn't played at before? Need the cash for that, like when Cosmo first opened. Bought in for $10,000 at craps, boy did that start a circus.

From what little I have heard about the amount of play Cosmo is getting, you might have been the biggest player in their short history :evillaugh
