So Nice, I Gotta Do It Twice!

You people!!! (while I shake my fist in the air!)

I should have never listened to you in the first place, all this crap about being so in lurve with Vegas that it occupies your dreams, planning the next trip on the way to the airport, being haunted by the pings of the slot machines!

Hell, I wouldn't be in the hole already as I just paid for a flight and a five night stay at THEhotel at MB in July! You were right - my March vacation was so fantabulous I gotta do it again!

Yes, I considered "slumming it" at a cheaper hotel, but the rates were very good everywhere. Plus, how can I go back to Sprite when I've had Champers? I guess not being a real gambler of any sort I can spend a bit on the accomodation.

So fellow Vegas lovers, I have a few questions I'd like to ask you in preparation for this new jaunt, a ladies-only trip that we are dubbing the "ALL CHICK, NO **** Vegas Vacation!"

1) You best car rental place. We only need a car for the day, planning on one excursion. Again, we'll be at MB, so close to the hotel would be great.

2) That excursion will either be a) The Valley of Fire or b) Death Valley. What is your own personal preference?

3) I've heard the outlet mall at the end of the Strip sucks. Where do you like to shop - we like shoes!!

4) Best place to take blackjack lessons? I've already been playing an online game simulator, but again I would love to know what you feel is the best place for a newbie to learn her craft.

5) Will I die from the heat? Will I have to place two Soft N' Dry under each arm and hope for the best? I hate the humidity we suffer from here in T.O. (30 + plus more often than you think), but I'm hoping dry heat won't be as bad.

3. This is a much better outlet than Belz (at the South end of the Strip--waaaaay south) The LV Premium outlet mall is close to downtown--about 2 miles.

5. July will be dang hot in Vegas. Stick your head in an oven hot. But there isn't a heck of a lot of humidity unless you're standing in front of the Bellagio fountains. Happily, there are two things you can do to combat that heat. 1) don't go outside. Casinos are air-conditioned to FRIGID conditions. I'm colder in Vegas in July and August than I am in February because the a/c is cranked so high--always bring a sweater/light jacket to wear inside. And 2) hang out in the pool. Not by the pool, but in it Since you're paying the big bucks and staying at MBay, take full advantage of their incredible pool facilities!!

 

The heat will be very dry and any perpiration will evaporate almost immediately - drink LOTS of water! It won't feel as hot as it really is. And that's what the pools are for!

Do you Really want to burn a day at Valley of Fire, or Death Valley? REALLY? Or would a day at the beach at MB's pool, with cocktail service and other amenities (ok, you might have to break the "no ****" rule, but I think you're going to struggle with that anyway) be a better way to burn a day? ...i'm just sayin'.....

If by The Mall at the End of the Strip, you mean the Outlet Mall way down past Mandalay Bay, then yes, it does suck. You might try the Fashion Show Mall, which is right next to TI...if you think That one sucks too, at least you're still right on the Strip, just a few minutes walk to the Wynn, Venetian, TI, Mirage, etc.

If you've been playing BJ online, you don't need lessons, you just need a cheap table. Good luck with that. In the area of MB, you might try Luxor or the Trop, in the afternoon.

I haven't been able to guess where T.O. is, but yes, the dry heat is different...the numbers do not translate well if you live in a high humidity area...you'll be fine. Especially at night....there is something special about watching the fountain shows late at night with a slushy drink, when it's still nice and warm out.

Finally, don't forget the Trip Report, and as you've seen, pictures are always a bonus.

Have a great time, and feel free to bust in randomly with a "dammit, is it time to go yet?!!" post... now that you're down with the sickness, you're gonna need relief.

 

Never fails...it's way too hard to keep away.

1) When we'd rent, we'd go with whatever place had the cheapest daily rate. Most of the rental places are located at the Airport. A few of the hotels have rentals available on site. Off the top of my head, the closest to MB I can think of is Monte Carlo. You'll want to reserve online prior to your trip for the best price.

2) I've been to both. DV just this weekend, I'll post pictures in non-vegas shortly. I'd recommend VoF because the ride is much shorter and it's still a great experience. DV is unique, I loved it, but its NOT a good idea in July...On Sunday, it was 96 degrees when we were at Badwater.

3)Give premium outlets a try. Fashion show mall has a good selection, as well.

5) You won't die. I've survived a couple of trips in summertime as a visitor and two full summers living here. You shouldn't really sweat. There is practically no humidity, despite the heat it's pretty comfortable. Drink lots of water. Dehydration will sneak up on you.

You'll have a great time!

Anyhow, back to the question at hand...You want to come out here in July and go visit the Valley of Fire? Are you frickin' nuts?? Why don't you just walk down the strip barefoot in midafternoon and have people stub out their cigarettes on you... It'll be like 125 degrees in the shade out there at that time, so easily 140+ in direct sunlight...

None for me thanks. I'd rather freeze in the casino with Hoya. And there are no Yard-long margarita vendors out there in the desert...You'll be wandering around like Terry...

If you're staying at Mandalay.... Mandalay Place has one store, and I got a fan-friggin-tastic pair of sandals there, well worth the $100, with fantastic service at the shoe store there.

 

Nobody would see you.... as most of the audience is sleeping...... ....at least that's the scuttlebutt according to Celine in a recent interview...

I saw her show in November 04, I really thought it was quite good, and I really wasn’t a big fan prior. I didn't hate her or anything, I just didn't buy her CD's and stuff. My wife is a fan, and she LOVED the show. Too bad Celine is getting bitter.....

SweetP--we did 3 summer trips to Vegas in a row and finally decided we were getting almost as good a rate to go the end of Sept. or October when we like the weather a little better. But if July were my only choice, I'd do it--it IS Vegas so it's good all the time. We're just making sure you're prepared, that's all

Hold on - I thought Jimmy Hoffa was buried in Giants Stadium, at least that was what I was told.

One of the professors where I work at knew Jimmy Hoffa personally. Some of the stories are very interesting.

 

Kathy - I think a lot of people besides Hoffa are buried in the desert. It was our group's inside joke during our March vacation!

I'm glad y'all are warning me. Cause I'm totally prepared to melt and be somewhat miserable unless I wade in the Bellagio fountains. I guess I'll have the excuse "But it was too hot to really do anything, so I'll have to come back to moon Celine in the Fall!"

Unfortunately, I can't go back this year for sure. Got Bermuda in November and then the UK for the holidays. Maybe next March...

I am going to be in Vegas during July myself (5-11) but I love the heat. Two years ago I was in Reno (different elevation) but it was awesome weather.
