    My Trip Report

    MM 2

    The Canadian version….....eh!!

    Disclaimer:
Sorry this is late. I got back on Friday night about 830 pm and had two sick boys with stomach flu at home. I ended up with the same on Sunday and missed work Monday. And no, this flu had nothing to do with over indulging at MM with you hooligans.

    ----------------------------

I’m going to split this into 3 parts, based on the 3 hotels I stayed at for no real reason, it just makes it easier to follow and write.

    Mar 17 18 19 – The El Cortez – Vintage Room # 218

I had this room booked months ago, and for a total cost of $88.00 USD that’s about $108.26 Canadian for the MM2 weekend, you can’t beat the price. [IMG] I was wondering a bit what it would be like, but surprisingly enough I was quite happy with what I received for accommodations. To compare it to another type of place to get a sense of what the El’s “vintage rooms†are like, I would say it was comparable to a room you would get if you went fishing with your buddies up north and stayed at that little motel with 28 rooms that was a one level low rise where you park right outside your door. It was just basic accommodations. The carpet was worn, and cigarette burns were aplenty, but a very comfy bed, as good or better then the Orleans or LVH the other spots I was at for a few nights that week. The window overlooking 6th Street opened for fresh air, which was nice, it took away the stale smoke smell, as all these vintage rooms are smoking rooms.

Thursday night, I arrived on time and split a cab with a guy who I sat beside on the SWA flight. He was staying at the Nugget. Got checked in very quickly at the El and headed for the MSS to meet the T2V gang for the first time. They were all there, playing craps and drinking, as expected. Got my shirt from Kikky, stain and all…. hee hee…. don’t worry about that Coaster Kikky, just razzing you. :D After a while, a number of us headed for the web cam at Main and Fremont. Yes, I’m, the dude in the jean jacket with the white arms flailing about. HM was the big guy….. as if you guys don’t already know that…… As Eric pointed out, we crossed the street a number of times; we were then off to the Gate for a snack, and after that I headed back to the El. Not sure what the rest did.
After having 6 or so beers on the flight, the drinks at MSS and the time change, from EST to west coast time, I was tired and sleepy.

Friday morning I awoke at about 4 am, which my body thought was 7 am. Headed to Careful Kitty’s downstairs at the El and had the graveyard breakfast for 2.49 or something like that. After some chow, I ended up on the penny slots. I played one called Bandita, an outlaw chick was the wild symbol and if she showed on the reels, it would pay on multiple lines. A cool machine indeed, I must say. All said and done, I called my wife at 9 am Vegas time and was up about 600.00 bones, that would be about 744.00 Canadian bones or so. I did lose it all as the days went on. But it was nice to be able to gamble for 2 days or so on LV’s dime….

Wandered a bit downtown, I was looking for al, but didn’t find him on Friday morn. I went back to the room about 2 pm for a lay down prior to the Rio Voodoo gig
    .
Side Note: - What seemed to be happening this trip was that I couldn’t get into the swing of west coast time. I was tired by 10 or 11 every night, so an afternoon lay down was appropriate, or maybe it is the fact that 40 has come and gone……
but they say “Life begins at 40â€?? [IMG]

I didn’t awake till about 5pm, I got ready and took the bus down the strip transferred at Flamingo, and made it to the Rio about 645 or so. I was told the VooDoo was closed for a private party. I looked and looked for the gang but with no luck. I found out later that ya’ll were just steps away from the VooDoo elevator at a Mexican joint just down the way a bit from where I was originally. I looked high and low, downstairs, every bar every lounge, but not upstairs. I thought maybe everybody went to the Gold Coast, because there was talk of doing a craps run over there. No luck at the GC either. I played some slots and such at the GC and checked out the Palms for a ½ hr or so. A cool place, the Palms, but a little too trendy for this country bumpkin to be hanging at. Also the tunes were blaring quite loud…I ain’t got the cash to run with those folks, but truthfully, I wouldn’t want to. Those trendy places just aren’t my style. Small town boy, I am. That’s me. I know the Mellencamp song, every word…by heart. I waited for the bus for a while but it never came, on the Flamingo route yet it was only around 1130 pm or so, walked back to GC and took the shuttle to the strip and got the 301 to downtown at the Flaming-O, walked back to the El and hit the hay.

Was up again early on Sat. Got a called from doctor_al and did an “Old School Saturdayâ€. Breakfast at Kitty’s. Played the horses and did ok at the Hilton Book.
Thanks doc_al for the Martini at the Bellagio and for showing me the ropes at the LVH racebook. I spent some more time at the LVH book later on during the trip.

Martini’s on Ice don’t cut it. [IMG] I have been converted. Rode the Monorail and checked out the Sahara. Another highlight was walking to the Western that morning. I said to al, lets take a walk down, just for the hell of it. We were both quite surprised. I thought the place would have been a lot shabbier that it was. We were there in the early morning, not sure about making the walk in the dark though. Anyhow, it was fun just to check the place out. I don’t want to rehash a lot but doc al’s report goes over our day as well. Had fun at Slot’s of Fun as well. That cheap craps table at the front is a hoot. A good place for a greenhorn like me to learn the game, that’s for sure.

    Mar 20 21 22 – Orleans Hotel and Casino.

Got my car at the Nugget on Sunday around 10 am and went back to the El and played a bit more and had a bite, at Kitty’s again and then drove to Orleans. Checked in for three nights. There was a long line at check in, but it moved along very fast. Got a great room for $30.00 per night thru the 50 % off MasterCard promo that was listed here a while back. That would be about 37.00 CDN – the 50 % off would remain constant…at the prevailing exchange rate…. Played some slots, a few beers and then off to the Barbary. What a fun night that was, got doctor al his watermelon martini, and had him read killer’s note aloud and toasted thekiller with the $50.00 he sent me to buy everybody else a drink,. Mikey read the other note and we all had the same drink as doc_al. Thanks again killer that was very nice of you!! I got an extra W.M. that was sitting on top of the slot machine that Typh did well at. Somebody I guess didn’t want his or her drink. I didn’t need that extra shot as I lost about an hour or so of that evening after the craps run at IP and the Grand Lux dinner. This I think, is the only hole in my memory.

OK HM – IP ain’t a dump, at least the casino part. I remember saying, “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing, but he keeps giving me money†as I was playing beside the Big Man, who was kicking ass…. good Run HM!!…It was a fast table, wasn’t it? And with me being a rookie and all.

The pictures that Crazy Beach posted that were done at the Venetian, I don’t recall, but as time goes on, I kind of remember bits and pieces.

If I was an *ass* or anything that night to anyone, please forgive me. Usually I am a happy-go-lucky drunk, but have been known to get a little crazy at times.

I hate not remembering, especially if one has been boozing, but from reading other reports I’m not the only one with a few holes in his or her report or Vegas time during MM. I guess it happens to the best of us. After the Lux, the group was headed out elsewhere; I needed to get back to Orleans, as I was full, both food wise and booze wise and the golf lessons started on Monday at 10 am. Stumbled back to the BC and took the shuttle back to Orleans. When we got back to Orleans a fellow said…were here!!!…I guess I had my eyes closed during the drive over.

Mar 21 and 22 were really uneventful. Golf School till about 4 pm each day, a few beers in the casino, some slots and early to bed each of these nights. One good thing, no hangovers really, even Monday morning, I felt rested.

    Mar 23 24 – Las Vegas Hilton

Checked out of Orleans on Mar 23 using the TV check out feature, this was my last day of golf as well. Played 27 holes at Painted Desert that day. A nice course, some narrow fairways, but some very nice golf holes. Sprayed one shot from a tee and hit a house, on about hole 14 or so, the guy we were playing with said that happens as the homes are so close to the fairways. If you break a window though you pay the homeowner. I didn’t hear a crash, so I was OK. That rattled me for a few holes, but I settled down again after hole 16.

LVH was good to me, I won $535.00 on a Price is Right 5 cent machine :D , cashed in and bought in at the $10.00 craps table. 12.40 CDN. Played with a nice gal from Texas, who was a pro, (at craps)… ended up down though about 150.00 and called it a day with the craps.

Mar 24 I did a walk down the strip to MGM. Played some Keno at the Dust, had a Ho Dog – BIG MISTAKE!!!. They should do a study on those dogs at a Lab somewhere; those are NOT a meat by-product item. It is something made up to look like a hot dog, but it isn’t meat though, that I can assure you of that. Don’t do the HO dog, for GAWD’s sakes!! That’ som’bitch took two days to leave me, I think. Lucky it was at the end of the trip…

All in all it was a good trip, excepting the memory loss on Sunday for about an hour or so. Gawd, I hate that memory loss thing…it just bugs the hell out of me….

    Notes:
Angy and Cyn – I hope I wasn’t slobbering too badly over you two gals when I was loaded on Sunday night. [IMG]
doc_al is a great Vegas guy to hang with – we seem have similar Vegas interests. Thanks al, it was fun.
RamBill, I think I gave you 20.00 for my portion of the Lux dinner?? If I owe you anything further, let me know. You are truly a fun person to hang out with I am glad we met. Too bad you aren’t 6 foot 5……
Mikey, is a cool dude, Fun to meet a T2V icon, a living legend – Best of luck in LV, HM in your future endeavors.
CK – don’t worry about the shirt, the stain is gone now.
Jer, we never really hooked up after the MSS introduction, maybe sometime in the future.
Too bad I missed the Rio Follies.
Jack21 – good job on squeezing the comp out of theHotel, and thanks for the drink.
    BlackJack thanks for the draft
Typh – nice to meet –you are a Hottie as the saying goes – too bad I’m 40
Larry (surfer) – You are one crazy dude, man!! – You would be a hoot to party with again; you sure know how to make people laugh.
Bosco, and MyCarDick – good to meet you two as well.
LVTerry, Sorry I didn’t get to meet you. We could have talked some golf - maybe someday in the future.

Other Thank You’s and honorable mentions:

thekiller – thanks for the SWA coupons for enroute drinks to LV.
DonD – we never ended up at the LVC for drinks. I never used any or gave away any of the coupons you sent. Sorry. I can send back to you, or maybe some other T2Ver’s can use them.

The T2V people are a great bunch; I do hope to meet you again someday.

If I missed anyone, forgive me. It was nice to meet and party with some fun people. I don’t know if any other MM’s will be in my foreseeable future, it’s kind of up in the air - I promised that family vacations with our two boys would take priority, and they should. I would like to do Disney with them, go fishing, Amusement Park type stuff, - maybe Wisconsin Dells, etc. Anyhow I finagled this MM trip saying it was really the golfing that was the main focus – that was just a side note in reality, but I did learn a lot at golf school, and am glad I took the lessons. Golf school has been on the back burner for years and never accomplished, now it has been.

Thanks for the memories, and (loss of) I guess, on Sunday – it was quite a ride, when I was with the T2V gang…

    Best Regards,

Good to know you are okay Ross...

And yes, we do need to get together another time.

Speaking of Disney, if you are out in the Anaheim area maybe we could grab Typh(easy fellas...) and hit some rides...

Now I'm jealous. I need to get on California Screamin'. I am, however, headed to Chicago and Wisconsin Dells the last weekend in July.

He is alive!! And we all thought you were buried somewhere in the Desert! It is too bad we didn't get to spend more time with you Ross as the time we did spend together was fun. I honestly didn't think you were that loaded Sunday night! YOU'RE sorry I'm not 6'5"?????? How do you think I feel???!!!! LMAO!!

Disney with the boys will be a trip to remember. I did it with my kids. Word of warning though, Disney will suck the money out of your wallet faster than a lap dancer at Cheetahs!!

    blackjack,

I had Al and Bill's cell number, but it was on my nightstand at the El........good place for it eh.... I don't have a cell. I was probably the only person in Las Vegas, be it local or visitor, that didn't have a cell phone strapped on his belt or in his pocket. I had one year's ago, but it was costing me 25.00/minute as I would only have about 2 minutes usage per month. It was for car emergencies, etc. We just never seemed to need one.

    Great report Ross,

That was dirty trick they pulled, hiding from you at the Rio, "Hey there's that Canadian, everybody hide".

Thanks for being bartender for me but I guess I didn't send enough money if you had to steal SOSurfers drink off the slot machine.

And it looked like you knew what you were doing during the photo shot with the girls ;)

Always happy to hear from the tokin' Canadian. I seem to remember you fading hard somewhere between the GG shrimp and the LVC.

Glad you are over your gastroenteritis.

    Jack,

You are right.... West Coast time got the best of me... I wasn't that loaded Thurs, just tired... up early, the drive to DTW, the flight, the anticipation; it all catches up after a while. After the GG, I headed back to the luxuries of the El and got a good night's rest.

Al - I was trying to give a good Tommy Chong impression, you didn't pick up on that??...... [IMG]

It sounds like a great trip! I didn't know you were staying that long or we could have had lunch or something a little later on in the week.

Anyway, it was great meeting you! I wished we could have chatted a bit more. I'm sure our paths will cross again someday. (or atleast I hope so)

That would be nice, I don't think that an MM is my foreseeable future though.....just my gut feeling. I have two young boys and family vacations will probably be priority for a number of years.... but it was nice to chat…Just wondering, though….was I the first one to recognize you??
