    My Trip Report

3rd Trip out, First time staying at Paris

    Gonna do this by sections.

Flights-Flew direct (Delta) out of Detroit. Easy flight there. Bumped to a bulkhead-exit row which was great. Got off about 10 minutes late, landed on-time.
Flight home got off right on time and landed 25 minutes early.
    - Note to self, don't take the super-late flight home next time. Work was a bear today.

    Paris
    - Loved visiting this property in the past. Thrilled when I saw that Harrahs would comp the stay.
Had a general (Deluxe) room. In the past, I've been 2/2 with the $20 trick. Had the $20 in my hand, mentioned birthday and asked for a red-room. Was told $40 per night. Settled with Deluxe.
    - Was reserved with one other person via TR. Lady at checkin gave me one key and threatened to charge me full price if he didn't go check in later.

Room was nice. Bed comfortable. Complimentary digital safe. Bathroom was nice (separate tub/shower, but otherwise unremarkable.)
View was of Ballys/Flamingo and a sliver of fountains. But I'm telling people at work it was a fountain view room!

Nice to be at Paris, but it was quite crowded over the weekend. Things seem to log-jam in the corridor between Ballys and Paris.
Casino offers some of the best drink service on the strip + good drinks to boot!

    Gambling
    - Crappy for me, great for my buddy. I played mostly blackjack and either had a minor winning session ($50 on a $$300 buyin) or a loss. Many more losing sessions than winning + epic failure at attempting chasing! Played a lot at Paris and a bit at Harrahs and Planet Hollywood. Also played some craps. 2 sessions at Osheas (lost one, won the other one) and then 1 losing one at IP.
Played some slots. At Harrahs, i won nothing and received almost no play for my $. On saturday (with a dwindling bankroll, i explored the north-end of the strip) i won at Sahara and Riviera.
Sad to see Sahara closing. $5 3:2 BJ on the weekend was great. Nice dealer/pit boss and I actually liked the casino.

Best BJ rules are clearly at MGM. $25 on friday evening received 3:2 DAS Surrender Stand Soft 17. Nice rules and my first time in that casino.

Also played around with some VP. Bonus VP. Lost all 3-4 sessions I tried. $20 buy ins with max play. Dealt 3 aces 3 times at Gustav's in my first session, but couldnt close the deal. I need to get a trainer and make sure I'm playing accurate strategy..
Also messed around with some Roulette with negative results.

Biggest loss I've ever had. Kind of spoiled the end of the trip for me. I'll adjust my loss-limit to a more realistic # next time.

    FOOD

Dinner was at Trevi in Caesars on Thurs. It was pretty good. Had a seat right next to the fountain inside. Service was a bit slow, but two weddings came in during our dinner. Had the Peppers and Polenta along with a bottle of their House/Special wine (a malbec). It was pretty good, but I remember it being better last August. Also had the cheese bread which was pretty damn good.
Dinner price was reasonable, $50 for a meal, and a split bottle of wine.

Dinner on Friday was at Craftsteak at MGM. Easily the best meal I've ever had.

If you go, do the Chef's steak tasting menu. We did the $140 Kobe beef menu. Got 4 appetizers. Prosciutto and pear chutney which was simply awesome. A salad which wasn't my style. The Kobe Beef Tar Tar. Interesting, but I only tried a bit and Roasted Red Peppers with oil/basil. That was very very good as well. Additionally, the bread served was very good.

The meat course was 2 (what i believe to be full size) kobe steaks. We chose the skirt and the NY Strip. Both were incredible, buttery and awesome to eat. I could not do it daily, but it was pretty awesome to taste how good steak can be. The NY strip was slightly better than the Skirt, but both were fantastic.

Desert was a Vanilla Cheesecake, Monkeybread, Chocolate Ice Cream (malt and dark) and a fruit plate. All was very good.

Dinner + 4 glasses of wine came to just under $400. Still worth every penny (esp with Express comps to help out!)

Dinner on saturday was at Jaleo at the Cosmo.
    - Overall I like the Cosmo. Right now, it seems like PH's little brother, but you can tell that it might just be a classier version and just as good someday. Casino layout was cool, collection of eateries was pretty fantastic.

Had the Sangria to start. If you go, get at least a 1/2 Carafe. We did 3!!! Just a wonderful drinking creation.
Had a great serving of dishes. Spanish ham, Fried bacon-wrapped dates, Olives 2 ways. All great. Chicken Croquettas and Scallops were forgettable.

Dinner came to $140 for 2 carafes + coffees + tapas. I'd go back again, but only after I tried La Cave.

    Nightlife
    - Checked out Chateau at Paris on Friday. Business must not be good. At 11pm there was no line and they were giving out wristbands to anyone on the street. My buddy and I walked right in. Additionally, if you stay at Paris, your room key says no line, no cover. So that's a nice perk. The inside was like any other club, crowded and loud. Outside is a really nice spot with a great view of the strip. I'd go back and head right outside some night easily.

    - also checked out Rhumbar on Saturday. I've been wanting to get to this spot for awhile. Loved it! The mojito was the best I've ever tasted and the other drinks were great too. Scent of cigars in the air and an awesome DJ. Met some army folks and went to the tatoo bar for 20 minutes after Rhumbar closed. Tatoo bar was not nearly as fun. Jet wanted $50 per guy at 230am, made me laugh.

    - participated in the Osheas beer pong tourney on Thursday. Beware, it's a bunch of local pros that play and win in these things. An organizer told me that the majority of them play at Blondies and other bars around the strip. Still a fun time, but just didn't have the skills!

    - Random observations.
South Strip is much dirtier than the Central/North.. Which surprises me because I generally look at MGM as being a step above Harrahs.
    - Liked the Cosmo, curious to give it a return visit and check it out again.
    - Loved Sahara, sad that it's closing, but nice to have taken $100 from them in BJ and another $50 in slots!
-Paris pool is much more family oriented than either Flamingo or Caesars. Not a party pool per se, but a nice area.

Had a decent trip, but the losing killed the vibe at the end. I'll make some mental adjustments for when I go out there next time.

My friend meanwhile continues to defy gambling odds. 4 winning trips making him 4-0 lifetime with 2 of those trips being $1000+ winners. Pretty good for playing lowlimit table games exclusively!

    Any questions, please ask!

    Hope you enjoyed.

    Jeff

This is why it is one of the best steak houses in Las Vegas.

I hope I can check out the Cosmo this trip.

    Thanks for the report.

Thank you for sharing your report. I'm glad your friend showed up so the check-in lady couldn't make good on her threat to you.
