    My Trip Report

I decided to start a new thread for this report. it will be posted in a couple installments. i didnt take nearly as many pictures as I usually do, a function of being a bit more numb to the beauty of vegas and being more of a degenerate instead.
Some of the pics are from iphone, some from casio camera

So this is overall my fourth trip to Las Vegas. It is the second year in a row with the same guys, J and P, so we were familiar with each other and our degeneracies in Vegas. Our first two nights were D/T at the Nugget and we moved to the Strip at NYNY for the last three nights.
Flights were on continental on the way out and American home. All went off without a hitch although flying into Vegas was very windy.
We arrived around 7pm and checked into the Nugget. We got a room five miles from the elevator in the carson tower, but otherwise were happy with our accommodations. After we settled in and showered up, wander through the experience, checked out the band (was country, so we kept moving) and went down Main to head to 777 Brewpub at MSS. We each had the sampler, and despite that it is still a good deal, we were all really disappointed with the beers this go round. We are all very into beer, and found the special to be basically a hard lemonade, the pale was more IPA and just tasted like hops, the dark tasted like cheap killians knock off etc.
Our food there was amazing as always, garlic fries appetizers are a must. I had a burger with onion rings and bbq sauce on it, I think my friends also got burgers.
Before we left MSS we had our first craps session of the trip. I usually play on five buck tables with 2-3 times odds and occasional place bets and whatever else seems to be fun at the time. We literally blew through our 50 buck buy in in under five minutes. Shooter through two twos and a three in three rolls, so I was down 15 before a point was even set. Anyway, first gambling of the trip was a bust.
Pissed on the berlin wall to make me feel better

After mss we wandered through the FSE all the way to el co for .25 cent chip roulette. We stopped and bought a couple beers along the way and just enjoyed the walk as the doors played. It was around 11 on a Saturday night, so dt was crazy busy and we had a blast.
We hit up the roulette, all four tables were open but it took a bit to get seats together at a table. My betting was 1-2 bucks on 17 (im sure beejay will appreciate that lol) and 50 cents on random numbers, usually football or hockey players I am a fan of just to be fun. Anyway, I hit paul stastny (26) Patrick roy(33) and 17 eventually but was way down until then, so I wound up around 20 dollars positive. Obviously not a big deal, but not losing is winning in my book. We smoked some cigs, drank another beer or two but nothing too crazy. It was our first night and we wanted to ease into the trip. We were in bed by three.
Sunday morning began as most days do for us in vegas, sitting in the sports book with a cigarette trying to figure our sports bets for the day. Last year our friend Dan, who is J’s brother, made a five game hockey parlay that paid almost 500 bucks. This year, j vowed to do the same. We made our bets then headed to MSS for their brunch buffet.
We were overall very pleased with the buffet, it was under 15 bucks with tip, included mimosas and the food was quite good. I enjoyed Belgium waffles, some lemon chicken, some nachos and an epic breakfast sandwich I constructed on my own made with a bagel, bacon, sausage, and a chunk of chicken fried steak. Yea, amazing.
We played craps again at mss and it went better this time, I don’t exactly remember the end result but I bought in with 50 and at least doubled my money so that was nice.
We wandered back to the nugget where we planned on watching some of the hockey games. I was really tired as I had had trouble sleeping the previous night as I was on the floor and decided to head upstairs for a bit. I wound up in bed just relaxing and checking my computer etc for a bit. When I went back downstairs I found j playing three card poker, which I hate, and he was drinking copious amounts of jose. He said he thoughT P was playing poker so I wandered into the nugget poker room and bought in for a hundred in their ½ nl game. I planned on just folding and getting some drinks as I wound up not being sat at the same table as my friend. First hand I was dealt 99 in late position so I raised to ten bucks. Had three callers. Hit a nine on the flop which was middle set. Raised to 30, was re-raised by a maniac with at least 3000 bucks in front of him and I called. The turn was a blank and he pushed me all in for my last ten bucks. I called and the river paired the board and gave me 9’s over 7’s. He mucked when I turned over my boat so I have no idea what he had, but know he was angry.
After I made that easy 140 bucks I wanted to leave but instead got a couple drinks and just folded. I did regret this twice as my ace deuce would have been a boat on the flop and my jack queen suited would have been a straight with an open ended straight flush draw on the flop. Both those pots wound up being well over 200 bucks, and I would have taken them both down so I was bummed I didn’t play those marginal hands. I got up after an hour and the alice copper looking guy I took money from said I was leaving with his money too early haha.

As I walked back to see J playing three card his 500 dollar sports bet was hitting for him. We called him all sorts of derogatory names as he did a dance and cashed in his ticket. We ate dinner at mermaids with some hot dogs with chili, some fries and fried oreos. I paid less than ten bucks and was happy with the quality. Definitely greasy drunk food. I really wanted to buy a football of rum and coke but decided 21 bucks was too much so we wandered to el co for more roulette. On the way we stopped over at the spike and got a chip there for the collection and made it to el cortez. We had a great time but I lost fifty here pretty quick and another 30 playing video poker at el co. After a few hours here we walked back to the nugget. It was around 2am and we had to check out for our move to the strip, so we called it a night. For the downtown session I think I was down about a hundred bucks. Very acceptable,
Random morons, ok my friends on fremont on the way back from elcortez

We moved to the strip at NYNY on Monday. We got a decent offer of 19/29/29 a night for our three nights, with 25 bucks in freeplay so we booked. These are both hotels we had stayed at before, but that is ok I suppose.
We checked in at the invited guests line which was very fast and we got a great view of mgm and south strip. Room was to be expected, clean, decent size, marble bathroom etc. After we threw our stuff in the room, we enjoyed my favorite pizza in town sirricos and then got yard long drinks because, well why not.
We had an agenda for the afternoon as we wanted to check out cosmo for first time, and get chips from there, ballys, and bills as i had never stepped into any of them (well i went to barbary coast before the change)
Cosmo is amazing. We really liked it. We had our yard long margaritas in this classy place but still felt welcomed. We had no intention of playing here just get chips but sat and smoked and drank for a bit and I threw a hundo into a DDB triple play machine planning on playing a few bucks just so i could break my hundo down and get my chip from the cage. Well, i played mostly 1 or 2 credits per hand (a no no i know) and hit four aces with a deuce kicker for 100 bucks. Would have been a lot more if was playing max credits, but i was happy with a 100 bucks payoff on a .75 cent bet.

we messed around for a bit

p and i played in the 8pm 40 buck tourney at excalibur since it was next door and easy pickings. we both missed to money due to some river shenanigans.
We messed around at excal for a while and we were quite toasty as a result of multiple adult beverages. we decided to call it night right around midnight, in an effort to refresh ourselves for further debauchery the following night

tuesday was pretty mellow, we planned on playing the noon tourney at luxor but the price is is up to sixty bucks and we didnt want in on that so much. the levels arent that great etc and if i pay that id rather pay more at aria or mgm instead. We wound up eating at mickie d's in luxor and just wandered a bit. Lost some cash at excal and luxor, but nothing crazy. Went back to nyny and watched some sports. J and i bought in for 100 bucks at a five dollar craps table and it went poorly, J bustedn and i was down to fifteen but crawled all the way back mostly on my own roll up to 150 bucks. Was stoked just to get my money back plus some. I was down about 250 for the trip at this point and my budget was 1200, so i was happy.
We all crashed for a bit in the afternoon before heading back to excal for 8pm tourney again. i was busted in fifth which was the bubble. we played the big video roulette game there for quite some time and eventually wound up back in NYNY literally doing nothing, just soaking in the sexy women, drinking some free/cheap beers and smoking a cigarette or pack. We crashed around 1, but not before some late night sirrico's

    last installment.

We got up pretty late our last day. We headed to the rio first thing. when we arrived p had forgotten his wallet and had to run back to the room, which was a way bigger debacle than we initially though as he didnt have a key and his name wasnt on the room etc. It was amusing.
I had had some great luck playing ddb at rio in the past but lost sixty fast playing. I was able to turn 10 back into fifty playing video blackjack, which helped me enjoy the rest of our off strip excursion.
We walked across the street to gold coast and had a great two hour craps session. we each bought in for a measly forty and wound up over a hundred each. That was a nice little hit, as i had been down to ten bucks in the wallet (day gambling fund is low, night much higher) at the rio and was no over 100
    [IMG]
I wishi had a pictgure but the cocktail watress uniforms at the rio are amazing.

We also stopped at the palms for a bit and played some more ddb at the orleans. i lost like 40 between these two joints and we cabbed back to cosmo for their dinner buffet. we relaly loved cosmo in general, the buffet tho, was disappointing. It was gorgeous and tasty, but the selection was far more limited then say bellagio aria or wynn. For my money i would have rather had the brunch buffet at mss again as opposed to what we had at cosmo.

One of my friends from home sent me with a hundred bucks and had me put it on black and let it ride if it won. guess what
    [IMG]
    lucky bastard
Anyway, we wanted to relax a bit before having a debaucherous last night so we napped it up and hit the strip around 10. We did a bunch of shots of patron in the room before we left and went to mgm. We decided to each throw in 25 bucks into the lions share machine at mgm. We got a lot of play out of it but of course didnt hit anything big.
we got some beers here and headed over to Tropicana. Played a little black jack and j bought in for 200 at three card. i had ten left after a sad blackjack session and put it on one pair plus bet playing three card. I hit a straight and laughed my ass off as j lost his last little bit. P left somewhere in here and went to MGM to play poker. we went over to see him triple up early and he wound up winning well over four hundred bucks, which brought him back from the dead in terms of his 1000 dollar budger for the trip.
J and I chilled at NYNY for a bit played a little more video roulette and got sirricos as it was closing at 3am. Went up to the room and crashed. p didnt get in till 5 with his 400 buck win from poker.
we had a 2pm flight so we pretty much checked out, placed a couple last sports bets and went to the airport.
Overall, i had enough small hits (video poker, one sports bet, poker etc) to keep me afloat. I lost around 500 bucks gambling but nearly 200 of that was sports bets. i got pretty beat up losing a lot of parlays in overtime games etc. I also had a very hard time winning playing blackjack at all. roulette killed me too.

Of note, tropicana is much nicer now, as others have mentioned, but on a wednesday night everything was 10 dollar limits, including three card which is pricey for what used to be a low roller joint. But, as i mentioned, it has a new feel, smell and look to it, and it is nicer.
We didnt make it back up to the sahara one last time, but i went there last year so i feel ok about it. Downtown was packed while we were there and i asked every cab driver how business had been and they all agreed it was better than the last couple years. we didnt make it to nearly as many casinos as normal, and only really walked the strip once. Time just goes so fast, and you can only do so much especially late in the week as you start to get tired. Sadly i think this will be our last trip as a group, my buddies just have other priorities as time has gone on. I suppose i need new vegas fanatic friends. any takers?
I leave you with my completed chip collection

It is 46 casinos. I think the only ones not on there that are either on the strip or d/t are hooters (which is weird because i have been there at least three times since i started my collection) palazzo and the hilton.
there are a few off strip ones on tehre too, rio, palms, orleans, gold coast, hard rock. I am very proud of my chip from the western lol
I didnt get any my first trip, about 30 my second trip, 12 my third trip and the last six this last trip to fill in the frame. we kind of planned our last day around me getting two more chips i needed for the collection, gold coast and orleans.

I'm not really a souvenir kind of guy, so the chips have kind of become my memento or keepsake from vegas. They hang on my wall in my spare bedroom which is basically a poker room so it makes me smile when i think of going to all those places

Excellent report! Love to see fellow hockey fans post / win their bets!!! NHL bets are one of the few types of wagers I'm up for life in Vegas (CFL, MLB and boxing as well in the Sports Book). I also loved the new look Trop and plan on staying there in the near future. Love the chip collection display as well. I have many that are in a stack that after being prompted by your pics should reside in a display soon.

I'm hoping to be in town for a Stanley Cup Game 6 & 7 during my June trip. Go Hawks & Habs!!!

Awesome TR - loved all the photos, sounds like you fellas had a great time. All my chips are glued to picture frames from when we took the kids in 2000 (when Vegas was going through that kid-friendly phase).

Did you sign up for Trop's "even the odds" promo when you went? Bummer on the MSS beer sampler - but thanks for the heads up I think DH was going to try that when we went. Was it busy there?

i would still recommend the mss sampler, it was just by far the worst one we have had. it is a deal at 5.50 for 25 ounces of beer. the brewpub always seems to be pretty busy, but we went at like 830 on a sat night, so it was pretty popping

to viva, that is our second trip in a row where someone made a 5 game hockey parlay that paid 500 bucks. sadly i didnt have either of them. i love hockey (avalanche fan) and we had jersey day while we were in town, and boy did we sweat. I hit only one hockey bet but it was a 3 way puck line bet for 10 that paid over 100 so that was nice. I got destroyed overall in the sportsbooks

Thanks for the compliments on the chip collection, i am very excited to have it full finally, and am unsure what ill do when i hit someplace new (still never been to boulder highway, ellis island, hilton, palazzo, etc)
I figured if you are going to have 50-100 bucks worth of chips laying around, they may as well look cool

I have a (probably dumb) question about the poker chips, but where do you get just one (and I assume they are all $1 chips right)? :poke:

My initial goal was always to win five bucks at any casino i was at and just get ones in change and ask for one single chip at the cage. as time rolled on and i started going to places that i had little intention of actually playing, such as the western, i just go to the cage with a buck and ask for the chip.
Some places especially downtown will not sell them to you. Golden Gate specifically was ver difficult. Even when i bought into a blackjack game and got singles for a bonus bet they gave me the metal tokens. I had to bribe the cocktail waitress witha two dollar tip to get her to give me a chip out of her jar.
