    My Trip Report

Here goes. I honestly have no idea why anyone would care about any of this, but I have received sooo much information from this board I guess I owe it to give back the small bit that is my experience…

6 days of mostly work and shopping, almost no gaming (sigh).

Sunday: Arrived LAS around 8:30 PM. Picked up the baggage and car then it was off to Flamingo, who had of course screwed up our reservation. The desk assigned our room, but not the Go room we reserved. She even insisted that I hadn’t reserved a Go room until I produced the printout from their web site proving I had. She then gave us two queens instead of the king I had reserved (sigh) saying it was all they had and I could change tomorrow if I wanted.

Monday: Stopped by the desk on the way to work to request the room change. She explained that we had to do that between 11am and 1pm. Made no difference at all that we would be working during that time. “Just go wait in line by the palm treesâ€. Never mind that it was their screw up, my wife had to lose a half day fixing it. Had the mandatory breakfast at Peppermill. I liked it better when they prepped the fruit plate in the kitchen. Now they bring it out sliced, but all the peeling and coring is up to you (messy). Still love the place, but will need to find an alternative dish. Worked all day then Margaritaville for supper and zonked out for the night.

Tuesday: Breakfast at Flamingo buffet, perfectly acceptable if unremarkable. Crepes were a pleasant surprise. Again, worked all day, which very nearly made us late for our show. Pretty ambivalent about LaReve. Sure it had water, acrobatics, dance numbers (lots of them) and the actors did a fine job of it, but I still left feeling like “What the hell was that?†The theatre was approx 60% capacity and there didn’t appear to be a bad seat in the house. Dinner at the Wynn buffet more than lived up to expectations, and back to bed, having not yet risked a dime at a table or machine.

Wednesday: Work (blah, blah). Decided on Triple 7 for supper intending to spend the night getting quietly drunk playing JOB. Prime rib was great, the micro brews weren’t. I don’t hold them to blame at all for this. Turns out I’m just a bland cold lager kind of guy. A pretty thorough search of the casino turned up only one JOB machine (by the valet entrance) but by the time I found it I was irritated so we left and spent the balance of the evening on Freemont getting not-so-quietly drunk. Did play a bit of JOB later at Flamingo (7/5). After several hours I cashed out up exactly the $.01 that was on the machine when I sat down (still counts as a win!).

Thursday: The last workday. Mrs mckevin stayed at the hotel doing whatever it is she does, so I asked her to go to the half price tickets place in Bills and pick a show for the evening. We ended up at Tropicana at the Brad Garrett comedy club. It was, well, an evening at a comedy club… Dinner at Biscayne. She had the t-bone and I had the ribeye. Both were excellent! A couple hours of JOB at the Trop left me up $30. Not life changing, but I’ll take it.

Friday: Our first day not working and Mrs made it clear that it was hers and that the agenda for the day was shopping, so shopping it was (thank God for my Kindle!). A full day and hundreds of walking miles later was the easy part. Now comes the part I had been dreading. It was 6:30 and time to head for (shudder) Donnie and Marie. All I can say is that it was less painful that I had anticipated. Throughout the show they had the good sense to not take themselves too seriously. Sure, they did all the old material, but they did it with a hefty dose of irreverence and (fairly) fun banter. I would be remiss not to add that Marie is still Hot! Whatever they put in the “Puppy Love†they pour heavy. Aside from being almost impossible to get myself to speak it aloud to order, it was wonderful and fruity, and came with a nice buzz and a souvenir cup.

Saturday: Last day in town so Mrs decided more shopping was in order. Ah well, off to Primm. For our last evening in town we had decided to go old school and see Jubilee at Bally’s (early show, covered). Yes, it was dated, but it has a “style†that cirque cannot compare with. Loved it, and the margaritas! We were in the second row of table seating and I think that slightly further back might make it easier to scan the stage to take in the whole show. On the way out my wife struck up a conversation with another couple (she’ll talk to anybody) who said they were tired and going to bed, did we want their tickets to Diva’s? Turned out to be a legit offer, no strings, so a half hour later we were at IP in a HUGE line!! The show itself was fun. In a drag show you would expect a great Cher and Liza, and they didn’t disappoint. Their Britney Spear was the hottest guy I have ever seen, and I’m not very comfortable saying that, lol. The whole thing is tied together with walk ons between each act by a very funny Frank Marino, with costume changes each time. Front row is probably not the best place for this one. IMO, the illusion holds better from a bit further back. Dinner was the midnight special at The Burger Joint in Flamingo. She had the $3 burger and fries, I had the $6.99 ribeye with eggs hash browns and toast. Both were well prepared and great bargains.

Sunday and it’s time to go home. An early lunch at Hard Rock and off to the airport for an uneventful flight back to real life.

WOW - thanks for the TR. I sure hear you about the "Dumpmingo". I was on a non-smoking floor - idiots beside us were smoking up a storm all the time - their solution was to offer to move us - NOT remove the idiots smoking on the non-smoking floor. I'll never return to the Flamingo - UGH.

Well I'm taking it from the report that once you changed rooms it was fine & not really the Dumpingo called it LOL? I imagine they would have let you move rooms later in the day, but then you risk the GO K's being gone again.

And it sounds like you had a good variety of shows, even if you wouldn't return to a lot of them again. I would suggest Human Nature next time!

I hated being at a conference in Vegas - I wanted so bad to just be off & running. Very hard to be cooped up!

After the room change things were fine. I just hated that they got it wrong then made us fix it on their schedule. I really do like the place overall.

After reading the board for a bit Human Nature was high on my list, but SWMBO was having none of it, and I'm well trained enough (read, "afraid") to mind, lol.
