    My Trip Report

Note: this story happened quite a few years ago-

I had been to Vegas once prior to this trip. I did NOT bring along enough money, so I sat out on many things.

So, with that in mind, I headed to Vegas with plenty of money. We got in late and I expected to lose $100 before going to bed. I went to bed up $75. The next morning we went gambling, I won $250 on a quarter machine...and started drinking $1 Heinekens. I would go by a $5 machine, put in $5 and make $10, drink another Heine. That's the way the morning went. And, then it kept going into the early afternoon....

I crashed hard early in the afternoon. My sister-in-law woke me up later, urging me to hurry up and go meet my brother (we had fight tickets). In a daze, I made sure I had my ticket and money, and caught a cab in front of our hotel (the old Alladin). I told the taxi driver to take me to the Sands. He drove us up 1/2 block, did a u-turn, and delivered me unscathed- the Sands was right across the street. Maybe it was fate (I could of got hit crossing).

I went to bed early, got up and won close to $1000 on a dollar machine. All in all, it was quite the trip.

(It might of been the Dunes,,,hmmmm must be getting old...lol)

The Dunes was across the street from the Alladan.

Thanks JP, I knew someone would know. Those two were my favorites back then.

I remember going into the dunes and Alladin in the early 90's, the dunes was a hole. The Alladin had seen better days, but was still alive.

Funny you posted this, I was just thinking about how much a cab driver is going to hate me for getting a ride from Harrahs or Caesars to Aria in a month.

Ice- My trip was in July of 1990. We combined it with a week long river raft trip down the Grand Canyon.
JP- the Dunes might of been a dive, but it was the only place I won at.... lol

Too bad the old nostalgic Vegas strip Casinos are a thing of the past.

Agreed, I still get that feeling downtown in small doses however (I'm really not old enough to know old Vegas but what I thought old Vegas would feel like).

The very first time I went to Vegas was probably in the early/mid 80's. My buddy had a timeshare at the Jockey Club. Don't know if the name changed, but he finally sold it last year.

Love reading of the old Vegas...my first trip was 1995, so different than today. Maybe the those posting in the other thread about demolition should remember this. Personally I don't want to see any property torn down. They all have their place and I would hate Vegas if it were all City Centers and Wynns.

I first went to Vegas in January 1997. The property I miss most for the nostalgia factor is Boardwalk. Nothing special about that place, but it gave you something different, which amused me greatly. Bigger is better, of course, so we're all better off without Klondike, Frontier, Westward Ho and Silver City, I'm sure.
