just a note, I believe Excalibur and possibly one or two of the other MGM resorts aren't wifi but hard wired internet access.

Per Don D, the El Cortez wifi does not work in the lobby, although there are two computers you can rent for a pretty low rate.

I've removed ElCortez's lobby from the list.

I'm going to try to keep it regularly updated. I'm hoping to always change the date at the bottom with the last revision date.

    Keep the comments coming! Thanks!

I usually stop in to the library in the town my shop is in and check my email ( and the forum here). They and several businesses like McDonalds have wifi which you can use not only inside but parked in the parking lot. I know Las Vegas has many libraries; I wonder if any are a block or two from the FSE or the Strip, or, any of the hotels Off-Strip? Anyone aware of any?

Its become a running joke for several years now. My brother the Phd, was staying at MSS and said he was going to the library. Well, one of the cocktail waitresses overheard and assumed he meant The Library, a strip-club. It has become one of those jokes that has to come up every time he's in town.

Here is a list of libraries: http://www.lvccld.org/about/locations.cfm

I went to one in Summerlin when I was out towards Red Rock and Suncoast a few years back. From what I remember I needed a library card to use the computer and it was a hassle for non residents. I ended up passing.

Where I live I can just go into the library and log in on a roster list and use any open computer. It wasn't that easy in Vegas.

I couldn't figure out an easy way for a non-local to use the libraries, so I left it off the list. I can add it, but I need to figure out how out of towners can use it without too much hassle.

The WiFi is free if you bring your own laptop, netbook etc. If not, you can sign up for a card and try and get in on the limited spaces available on their computers.
Or, you can just say the heck with Internet, and go to The Library!

It is like that here in the small towns of NH. You go and sign up and sometimes there are open computer stations immediately. At busier times they take your name and call you when there is one available. I imagine things are quite different in any big city but I was really referring to wifi available at the library. If the library was a block or two in a safe area you could walk over, sit down and check email etc.

It's a fairly safe walk during daylight hours to the downtown library. My brother walks it all the time when he's in town. Obviously, he's not a big gambler and the wifi is free.

Sonya....stayed at Flamingo from 6-10 thru 6-15. Took my laptop to the 3rd floor to the "Internet Junction" in the Convention Area. I found no FREE WiFi.....only the usual $13.99 per day internet room rate connection fee. There were a couple other "weak" WiFi connections available but they required a password to connect.

I did not end up making the trip to the library on Flamingo near Maryland, but I talked to them and they were very welcoming if I brought my own computer.
The last time I borrowed a library computer, I found it was slow and in the time I was allowed, I could not really access what i wanted. I was frustrated. I suppose it depends on where you are and how many folks are there waiting.

I've found that having the computer in the room with me even when I don't have wifi is a great benefit both as a way to write up what I'm experiencing and as a place to store all sorts of information cut and pasted on places I might go and shows I might see and bus routes I might take.
Also I can write up emails I want to send on the word processor and then just cut and paste when I find the wifi somewhere.

Its not just charges, if any, but the time, difficulty, varying hours, unpredictable availability and sometimes just the general nuisance.

Reliable internet access is what is really needed. Many libraries are helpful but it takes so long that you would rather just go to some internet cafe and pay for access.

Confirmed tonight while writing this post, NYNY has free WiFi in the casino area. No room number necessary. It also works in the bars here as well, at least at NFI. Yeah free wifi!!
