    My Trip Report

While I hardly write trip reports anymore, I sometimes provide live updates. Had to take a trip through LA this time to get cheap flights, but it turned out okay. Staying at the IP for 3 days then off to the Wynn. The taxi driver started to go toward the tunnel as I yelled at him to take the streets. He made some crap up about the tunnel being faster, etc, I just ignored him.

Then, he didn't want to take Koval and come in the sorta back way. I relented on this point since it was early on Friday and the traffic shouldn't be too bad. Probably one if the worst cab drivers I've had in Vegas, he just wanted to argue. But, at the IP and having fun. Meet some young girls in line who had bottles of vodka overflowing from their bags, which looked similar to our bags :).

Now for some gambling and then off to the HR to see Weezer play tonight !! W00t w00t!!

The nap at IP was great. The hotel sucks but the have real balconies and it was great to leave the balcony door open and have a nice nap with a cool breeze.

We headed to the HR where the taxi driver told us stories about the people he picked up at the Red Rooster (the swingers club) which wad very entertaining.

Had happy hour eats at pink taco and got my ass handed to me at BJ. Time to lick some wounds before the Weezer show.

There are 3 reasons I like the IP:
    1. It is always free with HET
    2. Has operating balconies
    3. Easy access to everything else

Thanks for the semi-live TR. Enjoy your time and good luck!

So.... Weezer basically killed it. The open bar didn't hurt. Now we've done the NFI thing after giving up several hundys to the HR. Vita time for a crappy slice of cheese pizza then a taxi ride back to the IP

I've lost even more money. Vegas hates me today. She takes all my money but then plies me with booze. I'd hate her so much if she wasn't so damn fine

Finally, hit some goodness and am back up a bit. Now it's time for some Irish music at nine fine Irishmen. Our fine friend Larry is serving our country today and can't be here and asked for a nice Vegas update. The wife is a patriot through and through and gave him a nice but oh so naughty MMS. Modern tech kinda rocks

It's late and I just realized it was the drunk girl walk time. The IP is filled with ******s of the highest caliber, but even better is watching the chicks who's shoes are in their hands trying to make it to a room so the can ..... Well...... Sleep?..... Yeah sleep.... We'll go with that.

Vegas is a (not nice name for a girl) and she loves to hate on me.... Then suddenly she shows me drunk girls and reminds me why I love her so much. Life is pretty much awesome. Enjoy it, it's borrowed time anyway

Late start today, so time to watch some football and nurse the hangover with the hair of the dog. O'sheas is the call of the day. Cheap beer, stinky casino... Yep it's time for o'sheas.

Hopefully CET appreciates the amount of money I've given them this weekend and they'll offer me a free room somewhere besides the IP. I just can't win, no matter the game. My kids college tuition is in serious jeopardy.

Loving the live updates keno, last trip I had a similar issue with cab driver, although not on a Friday night, he got upset when I told him to go through town, no tunnel and then proceeded to slow pedal every light and took me a full block or two out of the way before getting to my spot.

Agreed, I don't really like the newer stuff they've done but the first few albums are still amazing after all of these years.

keno? Are you there? Can you here me?

Keno - are you still there? Did the gambling losses just become too much? I hope you have been on such a HUGE winning streak you just haven't had time to post. Or, just didn't want to seem like you're braging.

Enjoyed the report so far. Hope you get back to posting more soon.

Wow, like I said, I give... live-ish trip reports. Once the trip gets going, I just forget about the board. Sorry, but ya know... I'm loving the time I'm having and forget about the peons back at home! ;)

A quick thing about Weezer.... Yes, I saw Imagine Dragons... They are how I knew about Weezer playing..... Imagine Dragons rocked the house. They really killed it. I love Imagine Dragons. But compared to Weezer... they sucked. I've never said that about Imagine Dragons before, as I think they are one of the best up and coming bands in a long time. ID will be big. They will be. Weezer is just already big.

Weezer played the Blue Album and Pinkerton.. and that's it. Straight though. Yeah... well... that ROCKED hard. the two best weezer albums. And Weezer played it like they were that age again. Rivers was awesome. One of the best concerts I've ever been to (the open bar didn't hurt). I'll see Weezer again, whenever and wherever.

My losses over the weekend continued. Severely. But, we still had a good time. On Monday, the wife headed home to take care of the little one. I was pretty sad that night, but "work" started that day and I was taken out to a dinner at LAVO. It was only okay. I really didn't enjoy the food, but had many 'work' talks during the dinner which made it 'ok'.

Tuesday started the big conference. I've been going to these conferences for years now, so I only go for the networking opportunities. Tuesday night was the big 'conference' party where they rented out "tryst" at Wynn. the place was cool... well.. the space was cool. The people were a bit... geeky. I work in computers... of course it's geeky. Later in the night I finally meet up with some of my work mates (the ones that I like to hang out with) and we have a good time. But early in the night, they all go home, as they have to go to the conference in the morning. I get pulled aside by our sales rep (the guy who works for the company who is selling to my company) and he won't just let me leave. So we hang for a long time, closing the place down.

As the place closes down, he wants to go gambling, and I reluctantly agree. I've already lost enough, but he really wants to go. so, we start playing on at $25 BJ table at the Wynn. I drop $200 very quickly and then just watch him play. He really can't play, so I just start telling him what to do. After he is up a bit, I decide if my advice is so good, I should get in the game. I put in another $200.

After a while, I notice my $200 has turned into $2000. I've just been upping and upping my bet (It was a conference and they were plying me with alcohol...). When I'm up at about $3k up, I decide to quit. I had been playing $100 hands on two spots for a while, so maybe Wynn will finally like me. I never gamble that big, but I was three sheets to the wind.. and well.. that's how it goes.

Wed was uneventful during the day, but we went to dinner at an Italian place inside of the Venetian Shoppes... Caneletto? It was less than spectacular... so far that I'd say it sucked. But it was free (to me). That night, my work mates decided to go for a drink at parasol up at Wynn, but it was a bit boring, so I dragged one of my work mates down to NYNY to go see the band at Nine Fine Irishmen play. He was already a fan of the Pogues and Flogging Molly, so it was an easy sell. We say almost a full set there before we headed back to the Wynn. We both had an early morning with sessions starting at 8am.

Seriously... 8am. If you're going to put a conference in Vegas... don't start them at 8am!!!!

Thursday morning, went to some actually informative sessions, then headed out early that afternoon to get back home. I'd been in Vegas for 6 days by then and was ready to go home. If my lovely wife was still with me, I might have been able to stay, but 'Skyping" with my daughter earlier in the week made me want to be home. Work in Vegas is NOTHING like play in Vegas.

Still had a great time. And I can't wait for March! I went to Vegas 6 times in 2010... I hope to hit 4 times sin 2011!

    Great report Keno -

I have a business conference every other year at Wynn / Encore so your comments were hitting home with me. However, their comp program is the only one in Vegas I have never even gotten a communication from, despite investing quite a bit in their properties. I guess they are just on another planet.

I will never forget one Vegas conference where my colleagues from all over the Americas met for a few days - and I had to give a presentation to an uber-boss at 8 AM on a Saturday in a small room with all of our leadership present. The night before, one colleague who had never been to Vegas wanted a tour of all my favorite places - that ended near sunrise. I did my best to get into corporate role by 8 AM but was still a little tipsy and dizzy from lack of sleep. I survived but saw a few raised eyebrows in the room. If you are doing business in Vegas, you need to loosen the collar a good bit...
