    My Trip Report

The annual Vegas trip begins at around 5AM with "Fly Away" by the Black Eyed Peas cranking so loud my bed is shaking...yep my brother had set the timer on his PC to 5AM and the whole house was bumping to some serious bass. I realize in about 2 seconds that it is time for Vegas and jump put of bed and hit the shower. I roll downstairs after getting all the gear together and await the arrival of "Dan The Man" from Presidential Limo in Atlanta. Dan happens to be the coolest limo driver in Atlanta bar none. Anyway, Dan pulls up and off we go in the phat limo to the busiest airport in the USA, which would be good old Hartsfield International Airport. Notice that I don't say the Jackson part because the guy was a crook. Anyway, Big Dan gets my brother and I there in record time. (We will refer to my bro from now on as Utah to protect the names of the innocent) By the way, is there any better feeling then getting to the airport on Vegas day?

Once inside, we stroll over to the gate and grab some grub before the flight. As we board the plane and take our seats the ultimate traveling site seeing begins when 2 girls who are probably about 18 years old each come strolling in and sit down in front of us. Now granted Utah is 22 and I am 29 but hey, this is just too good to not comment on. Utah and I exchange glances and we both bust out laughing. After what seems to be the longest 3 hours of my life between waiting on the plane to land in Vegas and being tortured my the girls getting up every up every 5 minutes to play with the AC we finally land. . Utah and I book it over to the baggage claim section and laugh on the way as we see those "leaving Vegas and are not happy/very tired/hung over" people walking the other way. Everybody knows this feeling and it was funny to witness first hand. At baggage claim we run into the first real classic on the trip that I will call "The Checker" who is literally checking every piece of luggage that comes off the belt. After 5 minutes of watching him pick up every piece of luggage he finally settles on the one with the giant masking tape piece on it with his name stuck to it. The guy next to me turns and says, "gee I wonder why his bag would be so difficult to spot?" This draws some serious laughs from the crowd as The Checker leaves quietly.

Off we go around the corner and run into Jim from the T2V forum fame. Jim takes us out to the limo area and mentions some type of problem with the previous group as the reason for him being a little late. No worries I tell him because we are in Vegas. We walk outside and see a HUGE Cadillac stretch SUV and Jim asks if this will be ok instead of the regular limo we had booked. We gladly accept and roll out as we head for Mandalay Bay. Utah and I have been to Vegas about 7 times each so we have a good feel for the places we like to stay and Mandalay Bay has to be one of our favorites. We roll up and some tourist types (who look like they have never seen a limo before) stare at the limo in awe as we come rolling in. I suppose the crowd was a little disappointed that Matt Money and Utah came rolling out instead of Shaq and Kobe but we can’t please everybody.

We check in at Mandalay and get a Fiji wing room with a strip view that overlooks the entire strip! I saw Hurricane Mikey’s post and requested a similar view and I think we actually got a better one so I was not complaining. After we dump the luggage we decide it is poker time. Utah and I call Jim back who graciously takes us down to Mirage at no extra charge. We enter the Mirage poker room and sit at the 3-6-poker game for about 4 hours. I must admit that there is no place in the world where you meet such characters as you do in the poker room. To my right we have an Asian girl who claims she has been playing for 12 hours in a row yet, despite that she doesn't seem very good and is rather annoying. To my left are a guy and his girlfriend playing together whom the dealer ends up making fun of every time they end up in a pot together. Mixed in at the rest of the table were a few poker degenerates and a chatty guy who made comments on every hand. After playing tight for about an hour I go on a bit of a run when I get a pair of jacks pre-flop and end up flopping a set against some joker with his A6os. My wired kings hold up the next hand and I cash in big on a queen high flush later on down the line to go up about $160. I then proceed to make the biggest poker karma mistake ever and leave the table after a few more hands to call some of the crew back home and let them know how well I am doing...big mistake. Anyway, after a while Utah and I cash out of the game up $260 combined and head back to MB.

After a burger and a beer at the Red/White/Blue place we roll up to the room and prepare for the evening. We head over to the HOB where our favorite band Trapt is playing in concert. The HOB is a great venue if you ever want to see a show in Vegas, holds about 1000 people and has very good acoustics. The show ends up being just as amazing as I though it would be as we rock out and get hammered for the next few hours to Smile Empty Soul and Trapt. After drinking about 8 Captain and Coke's along with a few 7&7's mixed in at the show we head over to the MB poker room. Utah and I end up at the same table where we battle some pretty good players mixed with a few jokers for about the next 4 hours. I am playing bad due to the bad table karma I gained earlier along with the fact that I am pretty hammered. I make a late night save and end up about $60 in the plus side. At this point Utah is up so I give him the nod as we stroll over to the famous Island Lounge in the middle of MB. This place is an all time classic with great music, fun people, and usually a good supply of escorts. Utah and I sit down and grab a beer while we observe a poor sucker getting a hard sell from a fine escort in a fur coat (in Vegas you really can't tell the escorts apart from the regular tourist hotties but, the fur coat and the fact that this guy looked about as pretty as Jim Walsh from 90210 was key.) After rooting this guy on for a while he finally folds the hand and walks out with the escort. Good for him at least someone is getting laid tonight. Utah then turns around and spots another escort in the corner who he has seen on the Internet. At this point we have been drinking for over 7 hours straight and we have been up over 24 hours. We decide at 4AM to bail and fight the good fight again tomorrow. Day 2 highlights and my theory on why people never hook up in Vegas coming up soon…

Aww...yeah!! Nice report. Keep it coming. [IMG]

Love the checker guy. About my only gripe about traveling is how stupid people act at the baggage claim.

Instance: No, you don't need to bring the person who came to met you and their three kids to ALL stand with you by the conveyor, while the rest of us have to fight past you to get to OUR bags.

    ...and guys like the checker.

[My wife ties a big piece of party ribbon on her handle. She can always spot her bag a mile away. I've got a huge red one. Certainly can't miss that!]

greely, you've already mentioned two of my favs: Hookers and Mandalay Bay. Can't wait for more tales!!

(I know it's pain writing these trip reports. Thanks for taking the time :D )

I'm hearing some Trapt lyrics here... "Back off, I'll take you on, Headstrong I'll take on anyone..." [IMG]

I love your trip report. Laughed out loud at the idea of driving up in a limo to play 3-6 Hold'Em.

    Keep up the good work!

Farking-you and I will have to meet up next time I go out. I do believe you would fit in well with me and my crew.
