    My Trip Report

Well the liver is healing (thankfully the old boy regenerates) and I have caught up on my sleep. So I think it is time to give my version of the very murky events. My version of the pics that you all were never meant to see. The true, unedited, unrefined level of gambling degeneracy I was part of and witness to.

Allow me to shine some light into the dark corners of "Deck the Halls with Hookers and Blow"......

    Is everyone ready....?

Well...I can't do it. Like a Freemason, the shroud of secrecy cannot be lifted. But how about some comments from the things I remember?

    In no particular order:

    - The balcony rooms at Cosmo kicked ass and I liked them better than the Penthouse Beejay and I stayed at early last year. The pics don't do them justice and the view speaks for itself.

    - Try as hard as we might, we could not hit the Royal Progressive on a .25 bank of machines at the Cosmo. This included a 6-8 hour session on Saturday night. Always nice to walk away with a big profit after playing that long but the Royal would have been nicer. When I sat down Saturday it was at $1575 which at a .25 level means it's a good bet to play. When we put in our last spin Sunday night that jackpot was up to $1890. That's gonna be a nice hit for someone.

    - After numerous stays at Ceasers I finally hit Qua. Well worth the $20 price of admission but I don't know how crazy I would be about paying $45 just to walk in the door. I was in there Saturday and Sunday and enjoyed both visits. It is actually the first time I have ever been to a real spa and I have a feeling most others will be downhill from here.

    - If it sounds like we are degenerate gamblers from our TR's, you have no idea. You have to see this car crash in action to believe it.

    - The Golden Gate kicks ass! It was our intention to gulp down a food comp and play some of the full pay bar tops before craps at the Nugget and that fantastic single deck pitch game they have at the Cortez. We never made it out the door once we walked in. The service, staff, and hot BJ dealers kept us there for hours. Crystal and Crystal behind the bar were great and made sure we were never thirsty. We also chatted for awhile with the Executive Casino Host who was genuine and friendly.

    - The Cosmopolitan is as good as people are saying. Everything about that is fabulous. Staff were attentive. Craps crews were a blast, waitresses were everywhere and so friendly. I felt the bar tops were tight but the machines we played elsewhere were paying and paying well. This level of service may change but for now it's the top dog in my books and is going to take away a substantial amount of my play from HET and MGM.

-The buffet at Cosmo is the best in the city. It's them and then everyone else. The Bellagio is second string to this place and I doubt this will change anytime. The small portion sizes and huge variety made this a belly buster!

    - Why o why do I go so hard my first night in Vegas? And how the hell do I go to bed thinking I was even and wake up to find myself a $1000 short? How does that even happen? Oh wait....booze. And how does one have a loosing trip after hitting for exactly 52 quads including two aces with kicker? Oh ya, we are degenerates.

    - Thanks to my friends who helped me chase down that Diamond Card this year. I came into the trip with no intention of getting it again but got so close in the last hours of our last night that we kicked it out. Thanks guys. I probably couldn't have afforded to chase that down on my own.

    - The staff at Bally's were again top notch. Extra shout out to Rick at Sully's.

    - I wish I could get an Augustus room comped every time I roll into town. Those rooms are fabulous and huge. Having to take that awful standard room at the Flamingo (which happens once or twice a year when I can't get a better room) is gonna suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm certain that I am missing out on huge chunks of the trip but these things happen when you push your kidneys to the brink of destruction!

Gentlemen, it was a pleasure and we shall do it again very soon.

those Augustus rooms are CAVERNOUS. I expected some depression after leaving the Cosmo suite, but thanks to that big room, and the fact it has a kick-ass jacuzzi tub and a shower with strength to remove even a heavily varnished layer of Hookers & Blow plus the handy spa location, there was no let down.

    Classic Trip......how many all-nighters back-to-back? at least 3?

paying for it now! sick as a dog

unless you count Cardiac Arrest, they don't call him "Heart-Attack Mack" for nothing!

wish you could have made it, could have used a few more falling down cup spilling drunks to make me look more normal.

I've got to say I think that is real close to the hardest I have partied for that many nights in a row. not even to count the "day life".

basic pattern was out until 8am, sleep until 10am, drunk at the bartops again by Noon.

pretty sure I am gonnna need multiple organ transplants to survive the week. Nyquil has replaced Grey Goose, not the worst trade in the world!:evillaugh

You guys do know how to do it up. One of these days, I’m going to have to plan a trip that coincides with yours, if for no other reason than to see if I can make it in the big league!

Sounds like you cats were smitten with Cosmo. I can’t wait to check it out in a few weeks.

Thanks for the abbreviated TR…and by abbreviated, of course, I mean, not two months and 72 pages long. :poke: @BeeeJay :evillaugh

I still can't figure out how Gaggles plays 1,000 hands of VP an hour, enough to hit 52 quads yet still lose money, all the while having one hand in his pants and the other sexting on his I Phone.:poke:

Easy, he used his quad winnings to pay the 1-900 bill that he was texting to.

Outstanding report. Cosmo definitely sounds like it's a place I need to visit based on all the reports, although I fear it's only a matter of time before the duopoloy pick it up for a song and then corporatize the experience.

I think if Dbank was going to fire sell it they would have done it already. Their determination to get a certain return seems evidenced by their choosing to open and operate Cosmo in the current form until said desired return is obtainable.

seems like if it is successful, the duopoly competition with each other to buy it, as well as any premium for its success, will also price it out of any fire sale options.

if it isn't successful, the good stuff will get degraded regardless as expenses will inevitably have to be cut.

I've read some stuff about other national gaming companies looking for strip exposure being the most likely to pay the price DBank would accept.

If I had to pick a most likely scenario, I would guess the macro economic trends will override the expectations for results based on how well Cosmo has executed operations. This will lead to some expensive cutting and quality degradation. Likely some "getting less tips than expected" attitude degradation will occur as well..

Another realistic scenario is that Cosmo takes a large enough share of market from P.Ho, Aria, Bellagio, Palazzo to actually be very successful despite the larger trends. I don't think they can take any significant Wynn/Encore players. Of course this is a very bad answer for those competitors. I think P.Ho and Aria are especially at risk to lose their higher end young or youthful minded players. I think the Bellagio, Palazzo will lose some players to the better product, but retain most due to the old-school fancy nature of their resorts. I don't see older regulars as quick to move from those properties.

I understand, and can't disagree, I don't think they'll necessarily have to sell it, but keeping service levels and amentities up for the range of player they are looking for is going to be tough I think. If they don't get the base they need to keep things going.

I just think of the issues that PH (before Harrahs) had in making themselves 'high end' and while it sounds like Cosmo did some things very right, I do wonder whether someone can regularly compete for the high end customer, with Wynn, MGM, and even to a lesser degree LVS hanging on the sides, constantly barraging their big players. It's not that I don't think they'll take some business from those other properties, but it's going to take some heavy risk in order to do so effectively, even for mid high players.

I think a lot will depend on what type of offers they start putting out. PH was rather generous as they were building up remodeling their property and then really tightened up, which is one thing they won't be able to afford to do with their 'higher' big end players, as once they shaft them, they aren't going to get them back.

I really hope it succeeds and continues, I think my whole fear though, is that if it's extremely successful and Penn or someone else come in and buy it, you can essentially forget the type of service it's providing, and if it's a colossal mess, then it's not sustainable. I just think there are a small number of scenarios where they succeed and can continue once they are moved, as DB is bound to do at some point. Maybe someone can get Jack Binion back involved.

Great TR. You are definately right about Qua....every spa you walk into afterwards, you will think "Well, it's no QUA"!

My Flamingo GO room last week had a review of the Cosmo, the balcony looks fantastic, as your pics proved. Not sure I would leave the balcony!
