    My Trip Report

This was our 16th trip and just myself and the lovely bride. Our flights both to and from Vegas were very nice and uneventful. Getiing the rental car we needed to wait in line but at least we had a reservation because those who didn't were paying $300 to $400 a week because of the SEMA convention. You just can't believe how nice the rental car facility is until you use it.

Once we got to Paris we were able to check in and this time we actually got our room and didn't have to wait until 3pm. The girl at the check in was extremely nice and I kiddingly stated it was our 16th honeymoon and I think she might have thought anniversary because she mentioned she had a room we might like. Well like is not the answer because she ended up giving a a corner suite which had a birds eye view of Bellagio and the fountains show. What about that, and instant win the first hour. I am going to break the trip into segments to discuss alll we did.

Gambling - Well this part didn't go so good but I guess with the recession that the casinos will tighten up the machines. We covered everything from penny slots to dollar slots and didn't hit anything. The bride did good both downtown and at the few off strip casinos we went to, but not enough to counter the strip losses. Oh well we still had a great time.

Meals - We did have the Las Vegas adviser book so we planned on taking advantage of some of the 2-4-1 coupons for various buffets. The plan was to head to Red Rock and M Resort but the bride didn't feel to good the first couple of days so those plans were scratched. We did go to the Paris buffet for breakfast and yes it is very good but I do feel that it is overrated for the price. I have read other posts and do agree. There is one thing we did that I will put on the future agenda for every trip foreward. The BBQ at Ellis island is fantastic and without a doubt the best bargin with the 2-4-1 coupon. We had two combo dinners ( half ribs and half chickin with two sides ) and two brew beers for only 20 bucks. Excellent!!! Also breakfast at Ellis Island is a great deal and there is usually no wait.

Shows - We had a heavy show plan this trip and were very pleased with everything we saw.

Vinnie Favorito - This show was extremely funny and yes you better be prepared for some long shoreman lanquage and Vinnie moves around the room to pick on everyone. We were lucky because he missed us but if he would have called me it wouldn't have bothered me. This was a 2-4-1 and well worth it.
Legends in Concert - Another 2-4-1 which we saw a long time ago and really enjoyed the different acts. Tom Jones and Michael Jackson were very good but Elvis was good but back in Buffalo we have Terry Buckwald who is a better Elvis.
Menopause the Musical - This show was histerical and guys if you have gone thruogh it like I have with the bride you will laugh you #*^ off. I highly reccommend this show because we caught the 5pm show on Tuesday and used a internet coupon with gave us $10 of each ticket.
Jubilee - We went to the late show which was topless a win for me but the is really done tastefully and the costumes are amazing. We enjoyed the show since it really is a Vegas showgirl show and the singing was great. We had a 2-4-1 coupon for this one too.
Sandy Hackets Rat Pack Tribute - was moved to the Riviera and they had it in the LeBistro showroom which makes the show so much better because the room holds about 100 people and makes you feel like your back in the 50's & 60's watching the Rat Pack. These guys are really good and the show is definately worth the price of admission. We saw the show at the plaza a couple of years ago and the show was very good but the room was much bigger and you were not a close to the performers. We got tickets at the tickets4tonight at Bills for a reduced price.
Of course I made my annual trek to Big Elvis at Bill's and as alwways get treated to a great show, the guy is very good entertainer and appreciates those who come to see him. We also went to Sam's Town on Thursday to play and caught the 2pm free show Toast of the Town. This is a nice show because they bring a couple of acts from the strip to show and it is very entertaining. This day we saw the giels from Nunsence at the Hilton and country singer from a casino I can't remember. If your going to Sam's it is worth the time but I wouldn't make a special trip.
Downtown we catch the free show in front of the Golden Nugget in between the Experiance shows. Carl Ferris plays the saxaphone and is fantastic, you have to see this show because you will always come back. He has been there for about ten years and does have CD's which we have so we can listen at home in anticipation for our next trip. Must See!!

We also used 2-4-1 to take the Cloud 9 balloon ride which is across from Mandalay Bay. This is a tethered ballon that holds approx. 8 people and raises 450 feet above the ground for an unbelievable view of the strip either day or night. We went up during the day and it was breathtaking. We also used the 2-4-1 to go up the Eiffel Tower at night to view the strip and the fountain show. Both are must do's for the newbees or yearly visiters. While we were there we also went to Dewey089 meet and greet at Ellis Island which was really nice because you get to meet those who write in on these threads and can put a face to the name. It was nice to meet all of you and it was interesting that two visiters were from out of the country. And Dewey grew up in in S. Buffalo not far from us, what a small world when you talk with someone. If only the entire world could do what we do when you meet others maybe things would be different, we can only hope. The meet was very nice and the lovely bride enjoyed it, since she was not sure if she wanted to go. I wish Turtleman was there since I met him and his wife a few years back at another meet.

Well, all in all this was I think our best trip since it was just the two of us and overall when I calculated the savings it came to around $350 for the entire trip. Well not counting the gambling losses. Fun for all and we will be back in March but this time with more people.

    Take Care, ViVa Las Vegas

I bet the view from that balloon at night would be incredible.
Don't know if I would ever get the courage to do it though!

    Thanks for the report.

I also enjoyed your review, and was stunned that you got an upgraded room. We have NEVER had any luck with an upgrade at Paris, with or without the $20 trick.

Out of curiousity, were you being comped or are you a High Roller?

We have a couple friends who just returned from Las Vegas and said the slot machines were the tightest they've ever experienced. They visit three times a year and play either slots or blackjack 12-14 hours per day. It seems rather obvious to me that they would "dial back" the machines to try and squeeze out a little more profit since volume is down.

VermonterJohn, yes we were being comped the five days but by no means are we high rollers. I think that we just got lucky by having a front desk person who was having a good day and since we were pleasant with her she returned the favor. I feel that to be nice to people even if they aren't all that nice to you is only the right thing to do. Like they say kill them with kindness. We also tried to play mostly at the casinos using the players rewards and always had them put points on the card when buying anything, meals, tickets to shows or anything else.

    Boomer...

I never realized they'd put points on your card when you buy meals or merchandise at the hotel. That's a great tip. Do you just present your rewards card when you pay?

Also, Boomer, I'm a little confused. You said you were comped, and then said it was because of a nice lady at the front desk. Weren't you comped prior to arrival (as in when you booked the room)? You made it sound like you were either comped at check-in, or at check-out, as the result of being nice to someone?

HET started giving you points (I believe last year) for anything you purchase at their properties - so present your card whenever dining or shopping to get points.

It's been a couple of years of getting points at resturants and such.
