    My Trip Report

I can't believe it's only 2 weeks until my return trip to Las Vegas. In Feb. of 2000, my grandpa made good on his gift for all of the grandchildren that turn 21, a trip to L.V. My trip came a year late, but as they say, better late than never. We flew out on FunJet out of KC and checked in to the Plaza hotel after a short stop to pick up our rental vehicle. There were five of us total, including my mother, grandpa, uncle, and a friend of gramps. I was in awe as soon as the plane taxied to the terminal and I was able to see the Luxor and M.B. out the window. I grew up hearing about Vegas, as my grandparents and mom and dad used to go about once a year. I was finally here!! We all took a short trip to the Plaza casino in order to get our feet wet so to speak. I decided to start off slow, since I only brought $300 with me for the weekend. (At least food and everything else was covered!) We sat at a $5 blackjack table and played for about an hour or so, using funbook matchplays, sucking down Corona's, the usual drill. We all decided to get up and go to another casino, so I actually cashed out up about $30 or 40 bucks. Not a bad start. The next stop after almost getting run over outside the Plaza was the Golden Gate. I know there are flashier and bigger casinos, but this place is my personal favorite. It probably has nothing to do with the fact that 4 of us sat down at a $3 BJ table, I pulled a $20 bill out of my pocket, and played for over 4 hours without dipping back in to the old wallet. The GG didn't have Corona, so I was forced to match my uncle beer for beer drinking Red Dog. [IMG] Everyone was having a great time, and I couldn't do a single thing wrong the whole time. My uncle is a pretty smart player, and helped me along on some of the tougher hands, since I'd only played a few times at a local casino. I understood basic strategy pretty well, but it's nice to have a backup! To make a long story short, the shrimp cocktails and beers at the counter were on me, as I cashed out with just under $700 from my stint at the table. :D By this time, I was completely pickled, and someone suggested we head over to the Golden Nugget. I don't remember much of this place, other than I didn't win anything at BJ, my uncle and grandpa were trying to teach me craps and I was just tossing chips out there (hey, it was fun) and my mom was feeding me a rice bowl of some sort. I somehow made my way back to the Plaza about 4am, and somehow found my room. The next morning I literally crawled in to the shower and swore off alcohol for the rest of the trip. I found my mom downstairs drinking a bloody mary playing blackjack. It was water and sprite for me. We eventually made our way to Binions (RIP) to play more BJ. I counted my money, and I was only holding about $800 total, so the Golden Nugget took me for about two bills I figure. Lost a bit at the the 'Shoe, so we met up with our party and headed to MSS. I really liked this place, but it wasn't kind to me or my family. My mom did sign up for a card to try and win a leather jacket for getting 15 blackjacks in an 24 hour period. (If she'd have won the jacket, it only would have cost her about $300 [IMG] ) My mom and uncle did put $10 in a dollar slot and won $160. Not bad. We all headed to Fitzgeralds, where my luck started coming back. I bought in for another $50, played it down to $5, and ended up walking out up $175. Recovering my MSS losses I guess. We went to the Strip for a while, and walked through NYNY, Excalibur, and Luxor. Ended up at Mandalay Bay. Sat down at a $10 table and won another $200 or so. Didn't spend much time at the strip this trip, as everyone in our group was more of a downtown mindset. Did the Stratosphere thing, but all in all, we preferred downtown.

I wanted to put this down on the website because of all the fun I had, and since it's my sister's first time to Vegas, I want to make sure she has as great a time as I did. Look for a pre-trip report shortly to cover some of the things we plan on doing.

    Wow!

What a great grampa. I guess if the tradition continues the trips will perpetuate! It is great to do things as a family. Imagine 3 generations able to enjoy LV! It is great fun and will grow into fond memories! Good luck to you all.

Great report! Good to hear a T2V'r come out ahead in LV for a change. Seems like lately, the house has had the edge....

Red Dog! Now I have not had that in awhile!!! As I remember it is not too bad a beer.

I played at a craps table at Binions once where a Grandma was introducing her 21-yr old grandson to the game (well, the casino game--it appeared they may have had a few "practice" sessions at home a time or two :D ) Now that's family!! Sounds like you had a blast and your family was all on the same page about being "downtowners" :D Plus, you made far more $$$ than I ever have in Vegas--so I'm jealous [IMG]
