    My Trip Report

This is the first time that I have written a trip report and hopefully you will enjoy the trip report more than I enjoyed the trip. My wife gave me the OK to go to Vegas for 3 days with my friend, the first time that I was without her on the trip. My buddy Ben and I are both decent looking men around 28 who like to drink and party so it is amazing to me that she let me go, but on to the trip. Our plane gets delayed out of Minneapolis so instead of getting into Vegas around 11:00 it ends up being close to 1:00. It takes an excessive amount of time to get our baggage and then it is off to the Dollar counter to get our car. They don't have any cars left. My buddy recalls an episode of Seinfeld and wanted to go ballistic on him but we take a cab and check into San Remo. I know, a dump, but it was cheap and we just needed a place to crash. They only have a couple of rooms left and they are all smoking, not what we reserved but we figured that we probably won't spend much of the night in the room anyway. I told him that with our bad luck we should just go to bed and start fresh in the morning but he was determined to gamble. It was his first time and he didn't want to see anything, just gamble. We headed over to the $10 BJ at Mandalay I lost $100 and he dropped $300 in about 2 hours. He only brought along $600 so 1/2 of it was gone in 2 hours. Back to the Hotel around 4:00 without drinking more than 4 drinks and bed time.

Day 2, we get up, change into a non-smoking room, they give us a couple of tickets to the Showgirls of Magic for our trouble. Then we call the Car rental, get a ride and pick up our car. I ask him what he wants to eat, I say cheap like 99 cent shrimp or a nice buffet for $10-$15. He says cheap since he is running out of cash. We drive down to Golden gate for some 99 cent shrimp and gambling. He dropped another $100 at the BJ table and I came out $10 ahead on the $5 Let it Ride. We then head down to El Cortez for some cheap BJ and both come out up around $10. Now it is around 5:00 and ask where he wants to eat I tell him about the Ellis Island special and he says that is too expensive, so we eat the shrimp again. I like shrimp and all but this is getting old fast. We make our way over to The Palms since he works for the Timberwolves and knows some of the people that work for the Kings whose owner owns the Palms. Anyway he has VIP tickets to Rain, I was interested in going there since this would probably be the only thing that he would contribute. We get there and the line is outrageous, we start bypassing the line, and someone offers him $100 for his VIP tickets he takes it and runs. There goes my idea of hitting a club. He quickly loses $80 on the BJ and we are ready to go, I didn't even play anything since I was kinda pissed. We start heading back to San Remo and I ask if he is interested in hitting a gentleman's club, he says no, they are too expensive. We get back and head over to NYNY where he loses $100 playing War, I won $20 playing BJ. Back to the Hotel around 2:00 am.

Day 3, this is the last day/night in Vegas so I am decide this is where I turn it up and drink more. I ask what he wants for lunch since it is 11:00 when we leave the Hotel, yup you guessed it 99 cent shrimp. I said OK but after this we are not eating here tonight too. We both sit down at the Let It Ride for about 4 hours, they were very good about the drinks and I was starting to get a buzz or maybe it was because the shrimp just didn't fill me up. I leave the table up $750 hitting a 4 of a kind and a straight, my friend who stuck his last $100 down walks away with $300 hitting 2 flushes and a full house. Now he finally wants to hit a gentleman's club, I said how about we wait until tonight when the better looking dancers will be there as will more patrons. We walk into Olympic Gardens, 2 of 6 guys. The girls were ugly and we left after 1/2 hour, he says I don't know why everyone says that Vegas has the best strip clubs since that place sucked, I tried to explain that if we were like most people we would go there at night, not the middle of the afternoon. We then head over to Orleans. I am very hungry so I said lets eat the Buffet, he said that he isn't that hungary and is not paying over $10 for a meal. Then we eat Subway instead. 3 days and nights in Vegas and no buffet, I didn't know that I was going to Vegas to start a diet. We both lost $100 each on the BJ table. We head back to the San Remo and he plays 3 card poker and loses $100 in the time it took me to go to the bathroom and get a drink from the bar. We then head over to the Tropicana where he lays his last $100 on the let it ride table, I play some slots loose my butt and head over to the San Remo where I drop another $100 on craps. He comes back broke and heads to the room. I stumbled to the room after winning $20 playing let it ride.

Final day, our plane leaves in the afternoon so we get up, I give him $100 spending money for the day and so he can eat for the rest of the week and eat McDonald's for lunch before heading to the airport. I have learned that, I will never go alone with Ben again anywhere, after 3 straight meals of 99 cent shrimp you can lose 10 pounds in 3 days talk about a miracle diet, San Remo's rooms are nothing like Mandalay Bay or Treasure Island, and never play 3 card poker.

I am counting down the days until I go back in March for my buddies bachelor party, and no Ben is not invited.

Sorry you had less than the trip of your dreams.
Sounds like you learned your leason though.
I did have to laugh at this report.
I have had several guy's trips in the past 2 years and i make it plain from the time we book the trip. No loans from me, bring enough money and manage it yourself. We do not have to do everything together, in fact i need to be alone at some point every day to eat, drink, gamble, sleep, ect.. as much or as little as i want. I don't take a cell phone either. when i'm in the mood to be alone i don't want to be called by the group saying that they want me to go look at the worlds largest ball of twine or something just as lame. It's my LAS VEGAS vacation and i do what i want when i want. nobody is going to spoil it for me. If they are a pain they may not see me until time to board the plane.
Hope it goes better for you in march.

Man are you going to enjoy the march trip...

We have a buddy who went with us who was broke by the end of the second day, and I agree with Scott - see ya at the airport. Vegas is no fun if you run out of money.

Go get'em in march. Then change your logon name!

Wow, what a funny trip report.

I just makes me glad that when my best friend and I go on our "guys" trip to Vegas that we take a different route when it comes to food. Gourmet meals every night, with a mandatory meal at Delmonicos.

At least you can look forward to your next trip in March (without Ben). You can also probably rest assured that your trip report brought a smile to a lot of peoples faces. LOL

Your trip report made me laugh out loud. I went in August with coworker. It was my fifth trip to Vegas and his first. Ithink he only brought $200 with him as he was broke by the next day of our 3 day trip. I luckily had won $350 playing video keno, so I announced that the roller coasters were on me. Little did I know that everything else would be too. I mean, I had to feed the poor guy. I was generous with the meals at first and then 99 cent cheeseburgers at McD's.He turned out to be a real bumtripper because he didn't have any money, and He still hasn't payed me anything back either. :( Oh well, at least I was there. I'm going with another coworker in December, she at least has it together so I know we'll have fun.
Anyway, enjoyed your report. Hopefully next time will be better.

Sounds like a bummer of a trip. Hope your next trip in March is nothing like this one. Did you really have to hang out with this guy that much?
Hmmm, I could handle a few shrimp right now myself with some hot dipping sauce. Was this the first trip to Vegas with this guy? I can't wait to get back to the blackjack table at the Trop. That's all the gambling I need and I can play for hours and hours at a time. On my last four day trip this past September, I ended up with 46 hours (and 1 minute) at the blackjack tables. I never get tired of playing this game.

I was'nt laughing. Man what a bummer. My ex wife went last march with her step sister and had the same problem. Her sister was totally broke by the first day and they were there for a whole week. To hear my ex tell the story her sister had alot of alone time in there room. What a bummer. I think gambling would have came to a halt. There is a lot you can do besides gamble in Vegas.....I think!

I can relate to this experience. One of my best buddies is just like Ben. I did a trip to the Bahamas with him years ago and it was the same thing. He's been bugging me to take him on a Vegas trip with me for years and I always change the subject and make plans without him.

I like to eat in the good restaurants when I'm in Vegas and I know this guy would be looking to do the 99 cent shrimp type deals constantly. You made your mistake so do what I do and make sure you set some ground rules as far as meals and such before you make plans with anyone.

WHat we do is before we leave for Vegas we pack a case of those vending-machine style case of peanut butter cheese crackers. Nobody is allowed to tell anyone how they are doing at the tables but undoubedly somebody breaks open the peanut butter crackers after about a day or so. Nobody buy anybody's meals. On a down weekend the crackers are history. On a good trip there's usually half a case left by the end.

my first trip to vegas - i went with a cheap person. it was august, it was 117 degrees outside. we were at the MGM Grand and needed to go to the hard rock. take a cab right? no. she insisted we walk to save money. whaaaa...?

the rest of the trip was like this. while i did enjoy that walk from mandalay bay to the Stratosphere (stopping in every casino to play $20 and drink a beer), the whole refusing to pay for cabs thing was a bit of an annoyance.

i am still friends with her and she still does things like - when we are at a bar - she gives me money to order her drinks with mine so she doesnt have to tip.

now i am such a fan of solo trips.

    thanks for sharing your report!

7-out.... Well, i guess it wasnt your best trip. But, heck coulda been worse. Not much worse, lol -- but a bit worse. I'm glad you won that 700 @ the L-I-Ride table. (o:

Now your friend, did you ever yell at him? Or, ummm throw objects @ him? LOL. Sorry--just kidding, i guess it can be a hassle when someone is 'that way'. I can remember about 4 yrs ago on a trip... i had $43.25 left with 37 hrs remaining til the plane took off. No fun watchin t.v. & savin all your dough for three upcoming meals. Well, in your case--i guess you would've ENJOYED spendin a few clams for some FOOOOOD!!

Jack -- too funny! But, then agaiin.. good thinking.

Jenaphir -- 117 ! Holy schmoley! Was she going to spring for the ambulance ride if ya PASSED OUT on the sidewalk? Man oh man. Then, a walk from MB to The STRAT . I hope you're kidding 'bout that. I know when i stayed at the mirage, i got the bright idea to walk it to the strat (mind you, it was 73 degrees). I figured 'well i can see the tower from here,

    i mean
    i t ' s
right THERE ! Like almost in front of me !
    I'm walking there, dang it.

Thirty minutes later & sore feet, what the HECK was i thinkin, lol.

misterkeno - im not kidding about the walk to the stratosphere. although i should mention we did do it at night. it wasnt that bad at all - the beer in every casino helped. once we hit circus circus - thats the only time the walk seemed like hell on earth. we did the same thing - look - its right there. why arent we there yet? whats going on??

im still annoyed about the cab to the hard rock thing. she does want to go back to vegas, but it will never be with me.

Ellis Island too expensive???!!!??? Man-o-man!! Your name wouldn't happen to be Clark Griswald would it? LOL. Sorry you had to have such an idiot traveling partner! It was extremely nice of you to give him some cash for the flight home and the rest of the week! That good karma will come back to you on your next trip out to paradise.

Man what a "friend". Time to feed him to the sharks. ;)

I have gone with friends like that. What I usually do is tell them I will be right back I am going to the restroom. Then I go about my day and let them eat what they want and do what they want. Plus I am out doing and eating what I want.

Then we catch up later and I say I got sidetracked and had the best time doing this or that. Then they feel left out and start to take my suggestions.
