    My Trip Report

Ok, so you regulars out there know that I went to Tunica two weeks ago, and gave enough action to the Horseshoe to rate free room and food comps on my next visit.

I had planned on going this past weekend, but cancelled that trip in the interest of saving the ducketts for the July trip to Vegas.

Anyhow, about a month ago, I was at a Sunday afternoon BBQ out at my sister's place, and was introduced to a couple of cute gals that I will refer to in this tale as 'Minor-Hottie' and 'Major-Hottie'. Yes, they were both easy on the eyes, but one was definitely a step above...

Anyhow, while all rest of the guys where hitting on the Major Hottie, I could tell that me and the Minor Hottie had a 'connection'.

I spent the evening dealing double deck blackjack on the back of my craps layout with my real poker chips, and everyone was having a great time learning the game. The girls really took to the game and expressed an interest into going to Tunica and maybe Vegas someday, and of course I said I'd be happy to oblige...

So fast forward a month or so... Last Saturday, a week after my first trip to Tunica, I wanted to call up the Minor Hottie and take her out (We got together on Memorial Day at her place, but it was a 'group' thing, so I was hoping for some 'alone time').

So I called her last Saturday night and asked her if she wanted to go to dinner. She responded with, "I'm really not that hungry right now, but I'm up for getting together--maybe we could play some blackjack!" I thought she meant for me to bring my cards, chips, and green felt over to practice basic strategy. No...She followed up with "Where is the nearest casino???" I told her that the Harrahs Metropolis riverboat was only 2 hours away. She said she was up for it, so I grabbed a change of clothes and a toothbrush (Hey, I'm an optimist... ) and drove over to her place.

On the way, I was remembering how much I hated casinos that have no competition, and I'm still not a fan of Harrahs. Being that it was a Saturday night, I was sure that it would be impossible to get on the single $15 blackjack table they would have open, and I didn't want to pony up $25 a hand.

So, when I got to her apartment, I shared my concerns with her, and she agreed that Metropolis would probably suck. I reminded her that Tunica was only 3 hours away, and since we were already on the west side of Nashville, it may be even quicker... She didn't even flinch, and after we both visited the bathroom, we were on our way to Tunica at 7 pm on Saturday night...

We stopped and filled up the gas tank, and she went inside to buy caffeine and snacks for the drive. While I was pumping gas, I gave my wingman--Eddie B--a call and told him what I was up to that night, and of course he wished me luck...

It was a fun drive, college road-trip style, completely spontanious and unexpected. The three hours passed quickly as we enjoyed getting to know one another a little better, and of course we paid homage to The King as we reached the Memphis city limits by popping in the Elvis' Number One Hits CD that I purchased last October right before a previous Vegas road trip.

We pulled into the Horseshoe and gave the truck to the valet at 10pm on the nose. I stopped at the ATM and took out $300. She told me that she was budgeting $100 for the night.

The casino was packed, but we managed to find two seats at a $10 blackjack table. It was good to us as we both ended the first shoe on the positive side. She was up $40, and I was up $70. There was no auto-shuffler at the table, so it took the dealer about ten minutes to get another shoe ready for us. During that time 3 chain-smokers with no experience with basic strategy sat down, so about halfway through the shoe we opted to color up and leave.

We watched the craps tables, and there were 2 $5 tables, but they were completely packed. No chance at all of getting two spots. All the other tables were either $10 or $25 minimums. It's against my code to play more than $5 on the line, regardless of the size of my bankroll, so we just watched for a bit, while I gave Rebecca lessons on the basics.

We realized we weren't getting any drinks by just watching, so we needed to go play some more. She wanted to go play video poker, but the only machines were around the bar. There was only one quarter machine available, so she sat down to play it, while I just stood behind her watching. I checked out the payline, and it was a 10/4 machine. I'm not a video poker expert, but that didn't sound like a good schedule. She also told me that the minimum hand needed was Three-of-a-kind, jacks or better just wouldn't do... So, as you may have guessed, her $10 buy in was gone just as her first drink arrived.

We got up and wandered back to the blackjack tables. We managed to actually get seats at another $5, and were doing fairly well for a couple of hours, but Instant Karma raised up and bit me squarely on the Ass.

I was betting progressively, and on one hand had $40 on the circle. I managed to pull a 5-card 17, and the dealer pulled a 4-card 18. She was carrying on a conversation with the first baseman, took a quick look at my cards, and paid me off!!! Not wanting to get her in trouble with the floor supervisor or pit boss, I didn't say anything, but got a nudge under the table from Rebecca, and a grin from the third baseman.

Of course, because I pocketed the bet, I lost the next 6 hands in a row in spectacularly ugly fashion. I should've known, because the very next hand set the tempo. I was dealt two queens against the dealer's six. She then pulled a 5 card 21. Everyone else was busted, so when she got her 21, I said "Well, I guess I deserved that..." as she swiped my $50 from the circle.

We got up at the end of that shoe, and went back to the craps table. We managed to squeeze in at the end of the table, and we both put $5 on the line. The table was really choppy at first, but I told Rebecca that she'd have a great roll since she was a dice virgin.

The guy to her right tossed a number, 3 twelves, then sevened out. She tossed her number, then immediately sevened out. It wasn't looking too good for us. I got the dice, set a point, immediately sevened out. Not a good way to teach somebody how to play the game.

The dice went to the other end of the table, and the guy set the point at six. I put triple odds on it, and made a couple of hardways. His next throw was the 3-3! Ok, table was getting a little warmer. He kept throwing, and after 7 more tosses, I had all the numbers covered with triple odds. Then he decided to seven out.

The next shooter did the same thing, but being 'smart' I only had double odds on all the numbers. Man, we got crushed. Rebecca summed it up by saying "I think I'll stick to blackjack"

We went back to the same 'Instant Karma' blackjack table we were on earlier, thinking my cosmic debt had been paid, and broke even for about an hour. Then they switched out dealers during the shuffle, and we lost the first 6 or so hands. All the players had stiffs, while the dealer was showing face cards every time. It was tough. I got a $5 blackjack to get me back moving in the right direction, but Becca went bust and decided to quit. But, she was cheering for me.

On the last hand of the shoe, I had a $20 bet out, and got dealt a pair of eights against a dealers six. I split, got another 8, $60 on the table. The asshat on 3rd base decides to FRIGGIN stand on his FIVE. Not a soft 15. A lousy 3-2 for crying out loud!!! I BEGGED him to take a hit. Told him I'd give him $5 to take a hit. Toothless old bastard wouldn't budge. [IMG]

So the dealer turns over his hole card, to show a six. Great. Dealers got 11. It was all I could do to not choke the ever-livin' shit out of the inbred on third base. Apparently I would've had to stand in line, as the guy on first base was playing black chips and had a 19. He was a little hot, too. Well, the dealer pulls out the next card, and gets a five. Whew...we all rejoice that he's got a 16, and we're safe. Next card, dealer pulls a five to make his 21. [IMG]

I had nothing to color up with, but the floor person was kind enough to offer us breakfast at the buffet. We gladly accepted.

It was 2:30 in the morning, but getting beat down like that kinda fouled up our otherwise fun trip. Breakfast was good (tried the Italian bar too... [IMG] ), and I managed not to hurt myself or break anything at the buffet this time. I did give Rebecca a re-enactment, which she enjoyed. [IMG]

Anyhow, after we ate we were pretty tired, but she had to be back in Nashville by 11:00 am the next morning, so we got back on the road. We stopped for a couple of large coffees, but it didn't help much. We found a rest stop about halfway back and pulled off to snooze for about 45 minutes. We made it back to her place about 7 am, and she offered to let me stay there as she said she was skipping her 11am appointment. I was a gentleman (and needed a shower, big time, too) so I politely declined and headed over to my sister's place which was close, and crashed on her couch for a couple of hours.

It was a great trip, and quite 'scandalous' when all of my sisters and their friends found out...

    So then Tuesday rolls around.

I was invited to another dinner party at my sister's place, and just as I drove up, the Major Hottie, Sarah, pulls up at the same time. She gets out of her car and immediately says "Hey! I called you and invited you to lunch today. Didn't you get my message???" I didn't, and my only response was some sort of incoherent gibberish. [IMG]

Then, during dinner somebody mentions the trip that Rebecca and I just came home from. Sarah and Rebecca are best of friends, but apparantly this was news to her--and she was kind of upset that I didn't take her, too. I smoothed it all over and told her I'd take 'em BOTH in August. Yeah. [IMG]

Free room in Tunica. Two hotties. Life is good.

I'll be sure and post a report...

You are the man Mikey! I can't wait to hear the details of your trip. Sounds like Major and Minor might have to have one of those Bud light commercial fights to see who sits with you while teaching basic strategy!

We have not had one of those spontanious trips in a long time (they got too costly) but I might have to convince the husband that a drive to the Jersey shore might be in order soon. [IMG]

    Mikey,

What can I say other than, it was another great trip report and I enjoyed reading it. [IMG]

And I'm sorry, but I had to smile when I read about your third base player holding on a 5. That's one of the reason I stick to the green chip tables. I like to keep the chances of having a knucklehead like this guy pissing off (can I say that?) the table to a minimum, especially when I'm sitting there.

I can't wait to get back to a blackjack table. Three more days for me.

    Mikey,

Once again, we are living vicariously through your trip reports. The guy staying on a 5 is classic. I can just picture you offering him money to take a hit.

Can't wait to read your report from your return trip in August. You are 'da Man no matter what Larry in Denmark says.

    Mikey,
Sorry the gambling gods did not shine this time.
At least you have a new friend in "minor hottie"!
I have never seen someone stand on less than 12 before and pray to the gambling gods that I never do!!!
I did have one guy at 3rd base hit on a 17 against a dealers 5 while I had about $40 on the hand, so I guess that is about as bad...
    Good Luck in July!

    Mikey,
You da man. This "trip report" will be great. To bad you cant take them to Vegas in july, that would really make a trip report. Although its your "wrong turn" report that has my wife prohibiting me from taking ANY trips to Vegas w/o her. Keep the reports coming, and if, and thats a bit IF I ever make it to Vegas when your there, I will buy ya a beer or 2.
