    My Trip Report

I lost, I lost again, and then lost again again (and for good measure, lost again, again, again).

I’m using this report as a form of gambling therapy – a release of the inner demons that are also known as cards.

My games of choice: Pai Gow Poker, 1 / 2 NL Cash Poker Ring Game

My locations: who cares – I lost everywhere!

A little warning – this will not be a pleasant reading – in fact, please remove the forks from my eyes that were placed there after 3 horrendous days of unlucky cards (and I even stayed for almost 5 days – before running out of money).

Also – gambling (with a little food included) will only be included (along with the dreaded ‘chasing’ phenomenon – Beejay would be proud).

    First night –

    Poker 1 /2 NL – Imperial Palace

    - it took about 2 ½ hours to lose initial buy-in and re-buy – this turned out to be a ‘long session’ for me. Hot chocolate as my night cap was the only highlight (other than aces cracked three times – and, no, I did not limp in - $15 raise – heads up – flush draw, set of 10’s and kings beat me).

Little did I know, that my luck only got worse as the trip went on.

    Second Day/Night –

    Pai Gow Poker

    - sit down with $500 buy-in – lose 8 straight hands – yup, $50 a hand until my chaser-bets of $100 lost.
    - At least I got a really good rating – for 10 minutes of play!
    - Also appreciated a pleasant $500 beer – good and cold!

Food - South Point – yum good Prime Rib special $12.99

    Poker

    - Bally’s – 45 minutes before rebuy today – today’s beats include set-over-set and better flush – I especially like how we slow-played our huge hands before the all-in call – oops – I am a loser!
    - Imperial Palace – a bit snake bitten – I make a great laydown – top 2 pair vs. set, then proceed to (more slowly) donk off rest of stack (you know how it works – lots of A-J, J-10 suited – raise, two callers, flop misses, continuation bet, other player re-raises, then I fold – bleeding off chips basically)

Food – BLT Burger – Mirage – perfectly cooked medium burger w/bacon

    Third Day/Night

    Pai Gow Poker

    - Actually lasted for a bit before losing buy-in (about 2 hours) – fun hand – quad 2’s and 3 aces – too bad no bonus on table – and, yes, I did win that hand
    - I had, at one time, a total of 8 consecutive Pai Gow’s – yup – I suck!
    - Was eventually called the ‘Worst Pai Gow Poker Player†of all-time – quite the distinction – Pit Boss was very good about reminding me about my new moniker!

Food – KGB Burger (Harrah’s) – yum burger – disorganized place (maybe due to the new opening

    Poker

    - Harrah’s – memorable hand A-9 suited (spades), flop comes 9-5-4 two spades – I go all-in – instant calls (oops, I’m beat – set of 5’s) – I failed again!

    - O’Shea’s – tried playing ‘right on the strip’ with last remaining funds –

    - ********** Warning – Chase Alert *****************

    - getting a bit frustrated at this point – so much so that I played Sex and the City slot (I never ever play slots, let alone this one –LOL and was max betting for a quick $100 loss – that was fun!)

o Look down at J-10 suited, raise, 2 callers – flop gives me an open-ended straight (rainbow),– river completes my straight – go all-in, 2 callers – one guy hits his flush (runner-runner), other guy has J-10 – I muck, not realizing that there is a side-pot and proceed to lose my ½ of the pot.
o I took this as an omen to leave gambling behind – a stupid mistake made – time for a walk

    …………….. so……………………..

At this point, I’m outta money – so, there are two possible routes – either hit up ATM or just SHUT ER’ DOWN.

I choose the latter – yah, maybe watch a show, but done for gambling (with 2 days left).
Yup, I’m pretty proud of my ability to just quit gambling – and take in some freebies.

    Final Observations:

I really don’t understand the idea of gambling – I view it as entertainment, with the remote chance of losing money slower.

With more than 25 trips under my belt, I have yet to have a profitable one. I’ve done well in poker, but it merely allows me to lose more money on other table games.

Slots don’t like me – we have a very one-sided relationship (kinda the same I have with my right hand.)

So why do I keep coming back (especially after such a beating I just took on this trip) because

    It’s

    Vegas

(and no other place can match it).

What a bloodbath. You have my deepest sympathy. Out of 10 trips I've come home a winner about 3 times but never have lost my bankroll completely. Ever think of giving Video Poker a try?

Better luck next time and thanks for having the guts to post your report.

that was a tough read, but at least you were in vegas!

in our 7 trips, we've only come home with more than 100 bucks once! meaning, all the cash we took for gambling/dinner/beer was destroyed!!!

yet...we keep going back for more!!! we never expect to win, just to have fun, and THAT is ALWAYS ACCOMPLISHED!!!:beer::beer:

Ouch. My trip a month ago was the worst I've had, gambling wise. Like you... I'm usually able offset table games with poker... but I didn't really play much last time. But it was still fun!

At least you didn't have to hit the ATM and pay a fee to access your money.

    now, don't you feel better?

    thanks for the report.

No reason to go home yet.

ouch, condolences on the trip and I know the feeling well as I've been there, those are rough trips. Congrats though on hanging it up with days to go though, unfortuantely I've never been able to do that, so I've turned bad trips into worse ones, although I've salvaged one or two, I just don't have the willpower to be in Vegas and not gamble.

Damn, sounds like my last trip. At least you were man enough to shut her down. I went for the ATM and took out another 200.

BTW - Hunter Mahan was a 60/1 long shot - that means my $20 got put to good use!

I wanted to follow up this trip report with the good news - I finally received the $$$ from that sportsbook bet (I love the ole' 60-1 longshot).

I think it's gotta be karma - I've had almost all losing trips - however, as said before, that is the price of entertainment. Where else can you stay for free and enjoy copious amounts of free alcohol whilst gambling?

BTW - since I've returned back to Canada - I've been on a wicked run of cards (poker). Next trip - already in the bank!!

Sorry about the losses - but congrats on the final win!

Have you ever thought about switching up from NL to 3/6 or 4/8 with a kill? Those kill games are a lot of fun - limit with a pinch of NL risk; and with the right table, I've seen myself and others do much better than the NL tables. Just a thought.......

(If Dewey's looking at this post, I'm sure he's going to chime in about the kill games!)

Ouch! I'm so proud of you for being able to walk away. That is the mark of a good gambler!

I don't gamble much at all, but I would cry if I had that trip. Though, like you, it wouldn't stop me from going back.

sorry about the losses, generally happens to me on every trip as well

it was refreshing to read your report because it seems so many on here always have winning reports; I couldn't figure out for the life of me how the heck these folks do it...

PLay in a tournament next time.....it helps the money last a bit longer.

A $200 buy in could last you hours as opposed to a cash game where you could lose it in 10 minutes.

Granted you may bust out with nothing, but all you lose is your initial buy-in.
    :peace:
