    My Trip Report

Bear with me, as usual, these can become long. This was a quick planned trip, as my wife, Ann and I have a trip planned for September to stay at the South Point. We live in Missouri, so jumping in the car for a quick trip to Vegas is not an option. My brother in law (Vern) called on my birthday on the 9th of July and as we were yapping, he mentioned he was taking his wife (DD), Ann's sister, to Vegas in August and we had to come. Knowing we were already going in September I told him Airfare was way to high, to which he offered to pay half. So I told him I'd look into it (translation: Beg Ann) and get back with him via cell phone, as DD was not to know of this.

Well happy birthday to me, as Ann said yes very fast (no begging), which was a surprise as we had just been to the Beau Rivage the week before, and she's not the gambling addict that I am. Guess she bought the line, I really want to spend time with your sister.

A quick look at Allegiant's website to see the airfare, a quick call back to verify with Vern the offer's still good, and as fast as you can say "winner 7" the airfare was booked. DD and Vern had booked a room at the Flamingo, since it was her birthday, they comped her a 1BR suite (turned out to be two rooms) and gave her 300 cash, she's diamond. I looked thru our offers and found 5 days comped at the Flamingo (and at Ceasars) and looked to see what kind of room I could get, turns out a deluxe was all the offer covered at the F. Exited out of that, then just put in the dates and booked a comped "GO room with a View), so that worked out (or so I thought)

August 1st rolls around, we get to the airport early, the plane is there, and left on time. The cart comes down the aisle and we order a vodka each. Big mistake. Turns out, 30 minutes later when we are ready of another, the FA comes down and tells us we only serve booze when the cart is in the aisle, it will be another 30 minutes b4 you can have another. So 30 minutes goes by and we order 6. Seems that's ok, though they gave us a lame excuse of to many drunks on the planes to Vegas. Go figure. I can't speak for anybody else, but I was pretty buzzed when we got there.

Allegiant's baggage claim is at #12 or so, which is at the North end of the Terminal, so we went out those doors to catch a cab. The line at 3PM was empty, and as we passed the south sides cab line, that was 3 miles long, I was happy.

Get to the Flamingo, the check in line was very long, so we went into the plat/diamond/7stars check in area. That's the only reason I'm platinum. The nice clerk gives us room 25068, go room, strip view of Caesars and tells us if there is any problem, come back. We take the elevators up to the 25th floor and the halls look like somebody has :vomit: 'ed all over them. I mean the carpet hadn't been cleaned in what looked like 5 years. They were Bad.

We've read the bed bug registry and we were a bit worried, so the first thing I did when I got into the room was ask Ann if she wanted to check before we called the bellman. She said I don't care, so I checked. No bedbugs. So I call for the bellman and he's on his way when Ann says "I am not staying in this room, and I don't even want to stay in this hotel" (I knew I should have double booked). I ask her what's wrong, and she says, it's filthy, noisy, hot and I'm not staying here, besides that, there is hair all over the bathroom floor. So I get on my droid and look at playerclub.com to find out my options, along with graize. I'd managed to forget my graize card, and didn't really want to stay down at the MGM comped since DD was going to be here (see I did want to see Ann's sister), so I was getting ready to walk down to the V to get a card to work my magic, when Vern called.

So Ann cools down, and we go down to the lobby to surprise DD. We snuck up behind her and pulled it off. Usually, the secret gets out before.

So DD says where r u staying, and I reply here now, but not tonight. We tell her about the room, and we go up to the 26th floor to put her GF's stuff up in her room. Her go room had a view of Bally's, a shower and a tub, two beds and was much larger than ours. DD says let's go see your room, she walked in and said this rooms no good, and called her host, who transfered her to the front desk manager, who never took her call. So we went back to VIP checkin, where the lady told us they were booked and all she could do was call the head housekeeper. Ann told her she could just check us out then, and amazingly she found us a room on the 26th floor with a view of Bally's and the fountains (26050) (king smoking).

We go up and move our bags over, check for bed bugs (none) and go up to DD's suite. They had a nice view of the pool area...big deal, the bellagio fountains are better now that the pools aren't topless  Their room was 27039 and was two standard go rooms, one had a couch and bath, the other had the standard furnishings of a go room (one chair, one chaise lounge for seating).

Grab a beer out of Vern's cooler and Ann and I go down to unpack. That lasted 4 minutes for me, the unpacking, the beer was gone before we got there, and I called Vern and said I'm going down, you coming? He said I'll meet you at the elevators. He didn't say which ones.....I stood at the lobby elevators for 15 minutes before he walked up. I will say the scenery was good. Turns out, he went down other elevators.

We wander over to find a wolf's something, a penny game with 4 games on the screen, he plays 40 cents, I play $4 per spin. He won, in that I mean he lost 20 in the same time I lost 80, and we got the first of TWO cocktails of the evening at the Flamingo. Bad, Bad Service.

We decide to move to a different machine, and I see the Penguins. Vern hasn't played them and I told him when the Penguins appear, prepare to be rewarded. He play's his 40 cents, I play my $4 and the penguins let me play for awhile, hit a few for 90 and 125, and got my second comped drink, which was supposed to be a 7 and 7, but turned out to be a 7. That drink was Stout:thumbsup:

We played the penguins for about 2 hours and went to find DD, she had called and said she was on her way down, but had to go to the TR desk because her diamond card had expired. I asked Vern, they don't expire, and he said they did, the date was printed on them, and they don't work in the machines after that date. Well, I never could get him to believe that didn't matter as far as the machine was concerned. So we play another hour, and I leave the penguins up about $200. We walk around looking for DD and never find her, try to call her, no answer. I tell Vern I'm going to go play goldfish, that didn't work out to well, so I go upstairs to find Ann. She's in her loungers, and we are unpacked, so we order some room service and call it good.

We ordered a Caesar Salad, chicken wings (very hot, but they were mild in reality), and a quessadia (yes, I know that's spelled wrong). It took 1.5 hours to get there, and they only brought it on a tray..Dude, there's no table in here. or even more than one chair for that matter. The food was tasty though, and way cheaper than Caesars Palace's room service menu.

First day: Up $25, stone cold sober:thumbsup::grrr:

Day 2 up next: Bally's, Paris, P-HO, NYNY

    Can't wait for more.

I had 5 nights in 26014 (?). My only real complaint was the hall/elevator carpet also. When I filled out my post-trip survey they always e-mail me (wherever I play), I did make mention very heavily in the 'problems' area about how horrid the carpeting looked.

I should e-mail my host (who is centered at Ceasar's) and maybe send him an e-mail too. Room was fine, downstairs fine, etc., but those hallway carpets - UGH. Just replace with tile or something.

Both Bellagio & Flamingo rooms seemed warm when I entered, but then a/c immediately kicked on. I assume both have those 'motion' sensors? The Orleans room didn't seem to have that & was cool at entry.

    Day 2

One of the things I think should be required in Las Vegas at night is for women to pee in the dark, I mean, come on, it's a sit down, no miss operation. Especially when the bathroom door is frosted glass. Sadly, this didn't happen and I was awakened to the harsh glare of blinding light at 5:30 am, never to return to blissful sleep. For what it's worth, I practice this policy too in Vegas.

While listening to Ann sleep, I pondered my game plan for the day, because I knew I was going to be wife free until 2 or 3 PM minimum. I get out of bed around 6:30 and wander into the shower, with the lights on, Ann was out cold, so I knew I could get away with the light. Interesting shower, one big nozzle and 2 lower back nozzles (luckily I'm tall). Fire it up and proceed to take a long shower, turn it off, and step out to an inch of water on the tile floor. Now I know I had that door closed and was not standing on the drain, so I pulled out my engineering skills and determined that there is a 1/2" gap between the bottom of the door and the top of the threshold. Nice. There went all the dry towels. Finally get the floor dry, get dressed and the phone rings. It's Vern, want's to know what I'm doing, and I tell him I'm heading downstairs to the Penquins. He say's he will be down in a few.

Head downstairs and get sidetracked by a jackpot stampede machine, or something like that. Play a few spins and hit the bonus, win around 20, and head to the Penquins. Vern shows up and we determine that the booze isn't flowing and the penquins are not being friendly, so I tell him Bally's has invaders from the planet Moolah, MOO. We wander over there and find one(!) invaders machine, which is busy, so according to the Harrahs slot finder, Paris has them too. Walk thru their mall/hallway and find the machine. I sit down and those cows were mute to the tune of -$100. Did score a very tasty 7 and 7, good way to start a morning if you ask me. Vern was playing a 4 game on the screen Eagle something, and was saying it wasn't nice while sipping his Bourbon and Coke, he didn't want to get "full" on beer. I say why be full, when you can be wasted. He agrees. I sit down next to him for 20 bucks worth and another drink. We then wander around and I sit down at a Griffins Gate. I'd played the sister game at the Beau the past month, the one with the cats, and cleaned up to the tune of $600 in about 3 spins so I had high hopes. Those hopes were dashed to the tune of $60. Vern says the amazing race is fun, and there's one open, you go play Joe and I'll watch. So I pop $80 in a hit max bet. Started going down, never hit the bonus, but hit something with lots of wilds. Vern says that's gonna be a good one, and I cash out with $150. (and another drink). I watched the bonus game later and decided that's not a game to play if your holding a drink.

Vern tells me to find something fun and interesting to play, I don't remember what it was, but I do remember it wasn't fun, -$50. Scored another drink though. Paris servers were on the ball Monday AM.

We get up and Vern heads towards some pennies and I see a 9 line, 11 coin max bet per line 25 cent machine. $13 something max bet triple red hot 7 machine I decide to play 18 coins instead, want to start off slow. Hit 3x blue 7, 3x on 4 lines right quick. Payed 540 quarters. With that, I'm ready to go.

We wander over to Planet Ho. Vern finds his wolfs run 4 game screen and I sit down at a 4 game on screen cleopatra, a slot I've never liked. Grabbed another drink and played, hit the bonus and quit, up 30.

We decide we are hungry and I've read good things about Earl of Sandwich, and it was close, so away we went. Not bad, but Lenny's is way better. We then decide it's time to go see how the ladies are coming on getting up out of bed. We walk along the strip, where I took one porn card, gave it to the next slapper, all the way. That was fun.

Get back to the Flamingo and go up. I fully expected Ann to be asleep, she's not in the room, so I head up to Vern's room where I find Ann, DD, and Karen, DD's friend. It's Karen and DD's birthdays, so we sit around where I proceed to drink Vern's ice cold Coronas.

The ladies say we will be ready in two hours, so Vern and I go back down stairs. We head to the penquins, his are friendly, mine are not. I go find a reel it in machine, the 3 line penny where you have to get 3 catch the big one's to get to the bonus, where you might get three lures to actually go fishing. I'm playing max and go to the bonus, catch two fish and cash out +120. Go back to the Penquins to brag to Vern, he's going on and on about all these $100 wins on a 40 cent bet.:grrr:

DD shows up and the plan back at the room was to head over to NYNY as DD and Vern haven't been there, and Ann and I are sick of HET. Change the machines people! Update your room quality too. If it's not Caesars, it's not that great compared to MGM product. (just my humble opinion)

Ann calls and says she be down in a few minutes, and she shows up. We grab a cab around 6 and cab down there, taking the alley that "the cabbies don't take in the dark" out the back side of the flamingo. The cabbie asks what we play, and slots rings out from the ladies, and he says, well you should go to the southpoint, to which Ann says we are, next month. He say's it's the only place he plays. We get to NYNY and start to play.

The drink service is fast and furious, we play $1 instant spin, which didn't for Ann or I, did for DD. (Vern went to play some more 40 cent bets). Ann and I go find a couple of classic 5 cent jackpot parties. I hate that game, I never party, so I decided to play max bet. Yep, I got the party, and didn't hit the pooper. Somewhere around 6000 nickles, I hit it. I was happy.

Ann tells me her stomach was upset, so we caught a cab back to the Flamingo. We go up and she takes her meds, and I head downstairs to find food. What's up with these hotels and the food situation? As another fine person once posted on this forum, we eat, not dine. Buffet, nope, coffee shop, nope, where's the food court? There's not one, so I stop of at some sort of Advantage machine, the ones where the screen rotates. I never saw it rotate. Then went to the drew carry price is right machine. I like the machine, but I don't like process of having to keep hitting the spin button every 10 seconds to stay eligible for the community bonus. $4/spin goes way to fast. I call Ann, tell her it's room service and up I go

Room service is 1.5 hours backed up, well duh, no food court. I get the patty melt, Ann gets the chicken. I was shocked when they asked how I wanted that cooked. Medium rare it is. They dried out her chicken.

Ann explained to me after dinner if you put towels over the shower threshold, there's no leak. Good to know for tomorrow morning.

I jump on the bed and tell Ann I'm not going to sleep....famous last words.

coming up, day 3, the POLE at Caesars and South Point

    Day 3 - the Pole

I woke up around 7am and made a cup of coffee feeling pretty good about all of the slot wins from the day before, and did a money count. Hmmm, where's all my money? Apparently, I managed to put all the wins back in and lose another $800. Maybe I should have had beer so I would get "full" as Vern puts it. Pulled out my phone and looked at the pictures just to make sure I didn't imagine all of those wins. The pictures confirmed my memory. Ann is still sleeping, and knowing this is the last full day, I call Vern, tell him to get ready, and jump in the shower, towel modified. No flood this time.

Head up to the suite and meet up with Vern. Vern says we are going to Caesars, which makes me happy since I'm into a quiet casino experience this morning. We cash out our remaining tickets from the Flamingo, $8!!!

Vern wants to play in the Forum casino, so I decide to go with him over there before going to the "pole". Readers of my past trip reports will remember that the pole can be my personal ATM machine, both deposit and withdraw. We get over to the Forum side and Vern spies one of those community fishing machines. In past encounters with this machine, it has not gone well for me, so I decide to go hit my lucky ATM since I left all the cash back in the safe at the Flamingo. This lucky ATM machine is a Bank of America machine that is located at the bottom of the first escalator you come to in the Forum shops, a short walk from the casino, located at the Valet and is free for BOA account holders, and a heck of a lot cheaper for non account holders than the casino fees at the atms in the casino.

Get my lucky money and decide to see if the fish are biting with Vern. The particular machine I find is a super spin, it locks certain spots and keeps spinning the rest until the spot doesn't come up again. Finally, we go fishing and it turns out both of us picked the fat bearded guy, who came in 4th. Leave that machine -$50. I tell myself that wasn't part of the lucky stash from the atm.

Vern then says lets go play the new lord of the rings, it's fun. We sit down and play for awhile. I cash out down 20. Go find my friendly goldfish machines, got a few bonuses and left there down another 50. I've managed to lose Vern, so on my way back to the pole, I see a Griffens Gate, and sit down there to try my luck. I play there for quite awhile and finally hit the prince on all five of the 1st vertical line and it goes into the hot hot penny mode. It pays $50. Hit the max spin button and it does it again on the very next spin. Cash out +60 and a 7 and 7.

Wander past cleopatras barge and head to the pole over by the $ WOF machines in the palace casino. The pole is a 5 line $ machine of the 3x4x5x variety. I put the $64 ticket in and hit max bet ($5) and start accumulating tier credits. I like this machine because many times a combination come up where you at least get your bet back. Pretty soon I hit triple bars 4x triple bars and take my picture, it paid 128. I call DD as she likes to hear about these wins and tell her this combination pays real good. She says she is getting ready. I tell her I'll leave her alone. A few minutes go by and I call her again, this time I got triple bar 3x triple bar with a double bar 3x single bar on the opposite diagonal and told her this one pays better. Don't know how much better cause it didn't make it into the picture, but I believe it was in the 200's. I play this down to $100 and put 400 tier points on the card. That ought to keep CP's interest, even though we are wanting to quit them, you have to keep your options open.

Get up and spy a game Ann likes, it's a 5 line game with a 4th reel bonus game, a little dancing dude, max bet $10. I play $5 and in 2 spins I hit Fiery Diamond 5x red 7, which in my mind is nothing. In the machines mind, it's $270. Not wanting to argue with the machine, I cash that out and go look at the Noodle joint. Yum Yum, but Vern spoils it for me when he points out they are over priced. I tell him so are $3000 hookers, but I digress.

We decide it's time to head to the Flamingo and make a stop at a gold fish machine. There went $80, I could have had the Noodles!

We head back to the Flamingo, where we lose a little bit more playing various games, DD and her GF call and say we are at Valet, and off we go to the Southpoint. I've heard good things about this joint, and hear commercials all the time when I'm streaming KJUL at work, so Ann and I decided to book a trip there after looking at the website. After seeing the general upkeep of the hallways at the Flamingo, I wanted to give the Southpoint a once over before we stayed there for 4 nights.

We hit I-15 and hit traffic, there's a wreck 1 mile down. DD's already saying turn around, as she hasn't gambled yet, but we keep creeping. Get to the Southpoint and Valet at around 2 and I say I'm getting a players club card, maybe I can play enough to get a free room offer before next month. Get to the club booth and the line is long, DD says I'm not standing in this line. 5 minutes later, I've got my card, so I find her and give her my second one and wander over to the $1 WOF machines. There went $50. I hate wof machines, unless I hit the $1000 on the wheel.

Spy a 5 line triple red hot 25 cent machine, set it 50 cent denomination and hit max bet. Hit 2x 3x double red hot 7's on the first spin for $241. Hey now, I LIKE the southpoint. Go looking for Vern and find him at the Advatage rotating machines. Cash out the ticket and put 60 into this, max bet is $3.20 and hit spin. Hit it for 60, a bit longer hit for 40, play for quite awhile and cash out with an $80 win.

I decide it's time to go check out the hotel hallway and doing a walk by of a room being cleaned. I pick floor 7, the carpet is clean, I walk past a maid cart and look into the room, turn around and go back to the elevators. All looks good to me, and head back to the casino. As I go by the liquor store, I see my brand is $2 cheaper than it is here at home, and we have cheap booze. Six packs of Corona's were $5.49, which is cheaper than here too. I go tell Vern as he was wanting to go by walgreens on the way back to the flamingo, where they charged him $17 for a 6 pack the night before. And that was miller. Go back and find DD at the WOF machines, there went another 40.

I decide it's time to go play some craps, two tables were open, both $5 min with double odds. Buy in for $200, start playing the pass with 2 or 3 come bets. One guy hits 3 points and I was playing the drop 2 for a green chip and the on and off game which consists of picking up money from the come line frequently. Good times, colored up for 394, not a bad win.

Go find Vern and we talk to DD, she's up $1300 and Vern thinks it's time to drag DD away from the machines to try to keep the majority of that money. I go along to see the show. Vern started off saying he wanted to go back so he could drink (heavier), that didn't work, so then he pulls out the big guns.....we can come back when Ann and Joe do in September...Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner.

So we go to the cashier to cash out, and I tell them I want to go get my waffle iron from the club, it only takes 100 points and we have over 2000 on the card from our play. DD says "now I wish I would have got a card" I go stand in the line, Vern goes to get the beer, DD goes to Valet and get Karen. I get up there and end up with a rain check for my waffle iron.

We head back to the Flamingo and I go up to find Ann, she's getting ready, it's 5PM and did I mention she's saving up all her gambling energy for September? She shoots my drunken butt an offer I had to refuse since it was our last night with her sister.

DD calls and says we are going to the Planet Ho, I say we will be there soon. They walk, we cab over in about an hour. The cabbie took an interesting route, through ballys parking garage, behind Paris and boom we were there, $6 fare, I gave him a 10. Walk in and see DD, she grunts at us and goes back to making love to the machine.

The Ho is an entirely different animal at night, loud music (good thing), lots and lots of people, think the day after thanksgiving (bad thing). We plan on grabbing some mexican and going back to the room in a few hours. We end up at Earl of Sandwich for take out and losing a couple of hundred. Say our goodbyes to DD, she was more interested in the machine, and catch a cab back. This guy went down Koval and the fare was $13, I liked the parking garage route better.

Ann reminds me what takes 2 days to pack at home can be packed in less than 10 minutes, and proves it. We eat and set the alarm for 4:59 for catch out 8:30 flight.

Day 4 - Check out of the flamingo for the first and last time at 6AM, no line. He asks about our stay, told him I thought the hall carpet was beautiful and that the South Point was a great place to play. He took our comps off, told us we had a free upgrade to a go room, imagine that since I booked the go room comped upfront. Arrived at the airport at 6:20 and used the Allegiant sky cap, the line was 10 minutes. By the time we were thru it, it looked to be about an hour long. Smoked a couple of smokes to get our blood levels set for the 3 hour wait till the next one, and went through security, less than 5 minutes. Flight left on time, got in 5 minutes early and we headed to the Rib Shack in Springfield Missouri to grab dinner. While waiting for our Ribs, I called Vern, he said they were packing as fast as they could to get out of the room by noon. Dude, it's 5 till 12 in Vegas. They finally made it back to Phoenix at 8:30 PM. Getting up for early flights suck, but sitting on my couch at 3PM's a good thing.

A couple of comments about the flamingo. The room was ok, the go room isn't anything special. I'd hate to see the standard room. The housekeeping of the halls were horrible. The first night there was broken glass under the room service cart in the hall. The last morning, the glass was still there.

The elevator area on the 26th floor had a house phone on the floor, the table was gone, and the base board was off when we got there, nothing had been done when we left.

I know times are bad, but I've never been to a resort in Vegas that had hall's looking like these. First impressions count, and this was nasty.

If you can score a room such as 26050 -26060 on the Bally's side, you will have a perfect view of the fountains, not to much noise and a great view.

Hope you enjoyed and I'll write again in September.

Good old Dumpmingo - still puzzles me why people go there - typically long long check in lines - rude staff and DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY.....Too many choices in Vegas to stay at that Casino IMHO......:vomit:

you got that right, we are platinum so we didn't have to wait in line, but the check in's were long. We stayed there only for the surprise, it wasn't our first choice.

it's funny how different people have different views. the wifey and i would stay at the flamingo every trip! we love it! granted, we've never had a bad room there or experienced the dirty hallways. drink service doesn't matter to us since we rarely sit at a slot, it's always the bar. maybe the flamingo will surprise you and you'll give it another shot!:beer::beer:

Sound like good times. Thanks for the Flaming-0 information. We normally stay at Orleans anyway but after 4 years of nothing else a change of scene is needed. Enjoyed the read and thanks for posting!

One thing I forgot to mention, Karen, DD's friend said her room never got below 79 degrees, she called the desk, they sent somebody up, but they didn't fix it.

We all agreed since we get comped rooms from all Harrahs properties, we wouldn't be going back to the Flamingo.

I did send a separate e-mail to the executive host listed under my name at Flamingo - and mentioned the hallways extensively. No idea if he will read it or not. I know he was on vacation while I was there but would assume he is back by now. If I don't hear back from him I will send it to the one at Ceasar's & ask him to pass it on.

My room was fine. Casino was fine. Slot service was better than I expected (great back near the check-in area). I also would not hesitate to stay at Flamingo again. I never had a weak drink either - told the one girl not to bring me anymore even if I asked!!!

The hallways were seriously the only dirty area I noticed, other than some garbage in the elevators (and they were being cleaned regularly & mopped - so basically the customers are just slobs - lots of teens there the week I was there for a bb tourney & a cheerleader event). And encountered cleaning crews a couple of times from drunks barfing in the elevators - but they were cleaning them promptly (thank God!)

But you are so right - the first impression the guest receives walking into those hallways - UGH. And I will be honest & say that if I hadn't read several recent comments about the halls I may not have even noticed them. However, if it were the first time I was there I definitely would notice that.

thanks for the report, have to agree with you on the current state of the Flamingo. I'm not usually much of a complainer about things like that but on my last stay I couldn't stop noticing things in the public areas that were filthy, broken, and in general need of repair. Sad too as the Flamingo has always been one of my favorite places to stay. It would take a lot now to get me to go back in there and stay on a trip.

enjoyed your trip report, thanks for writing!

Funny watching your travel mates playing that 40 cent bet to your max, and him catching the bonuses! We have seen the same things with our family/friends, and have tried to mimic the lower play, it's difficult (read: boring), but really seems to be the way to go!

Was the free waffle thing for new sign-up's only? Sierra

the Waffle iron was the gift of the week for any club member who put on 100 points ($1/point on a slot) that week. It's a different gift every week, one week this month is a cooler, one week is a bamboo cutting board, and one week is a pizza stone and cutter.

I prefer to play the $'s but Flamingo was remodeling that area of the casino.
