    My Trip Report

Can you stand another Monte Carlo trip report....
Three of us (Joanie, Judy and Chris) went mostly for eating, shopping, sightseeing and not too much gambling. Stop here if you want a gambling/drinking trip report.

Here goes....we left Florida on Wed 8/21 at 7:20 am on Southwest after staying up til midnight then not sleeping a wink for fear of missing our 4:30 am wake up call....Upon our early landing the flight announcer said, "Tell all your friends that we arrived early, because we know you would tell all of them if we were late!!" Off to the Monte Carlo where we present ourselves at the desk at 9:30 am...our room was ready!!! We checked in room 7 122 with a view of the pool, Paris, and tram to Bellagio. Then we high tailed it to the food court for Sbarro pizza we were starving!(1.00 off coupon)
Off to the tram for Bellagio fountains and 4 dollar gelato. MMMMMmmm. We chatted up the door attendant who gave us tips on her favorite shows, Cintas and Jubilee. By this time we were fading so off to the pool for water therapy and naps. the pool WAS crowded but we looked around for chairs and found two where we put our towels while we explored the wave pool and water river.
Meanwhile, Chris took a nap upstairs with the room blackening curtains drawn and the AC cool!!
We decided to go to see Charo for a laugh as it was cheap and we had planned to see La Femme at the MGM the next nite for 60 bucks. We decided to check out an old hotel/casino and took a cab to the Sahara. Tickets were procured and we were really early. We tooled around the casino and enjoyed the "vintage" cocktail waitresses with their beehive single process blonde hairdo's and drooping boobies hoisted up with super industrial strength wonderbras. Did you ever notice that every woman in Las Vegas has a wonderbra on....but I digress....Ok, well there we were waiting for the 7 o'clock show with no dinner plans so off we went to the buffet....it was decent but very plain and old fashioned. The price was only $7.50 (there is a dollar off coupon we found after) and we were first in line for the show after eating ourselves silly. Charo started at 7 and the show was fabuloso! See my review under shows. Joanie, Chris and I highly recommend it! After the show we took a cab downtown for the light show. By this time it was around 10 but felt later as we are east coasters. We stayed up there after the show but we running on fumes (up for 36 hrs straight) so took a cab back after we couldn't find nickel slots open anywhere! It was prime time downtown, after all. Upon arriving at the Monte, I went upstairs to sleep while Chris and Joanie tipped a few back in the Houdini lounge while the bartender shared the latest Casino gossip.
Thurs 8/22 Joanie and Chris went on the Grand Canyon tour for the day. I stayed behind and took off for the spa. After a workout in the gym, I booked a facial and lounged in the hot steam room/jacuzzi for hours! It was bliss. We all met at the room and converged on the PARIS for drinks at Napoleon cigar lounge. The drinks were good and the cocktail waitresses (who wore very abbreviated short shorts, low cut blouses--again the wonderbra- and gold platform boots) brought us little meat sandwiches on french rolls with different spreads on the side. The shrimp cocktail was decadent and delish! Then it was off to see "La Femme" at MGM. The show was very understated and simple. It is really hard to describe. It was a strip show with class and a French influence. Very artsy. After the show we walked to NYNY, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and then back to the Monte Carlo, drinking a few more than we usually do....We decided to stay up and drink TONS OF WATER..before we went to bed. We also were a wee bit hungry. There was a Callows restaurant but the parking lot was a tad scary so we opted for the Cafe in our hotel. The service was great and food ok. Then to sleep
Friday 8/23 This was our last full day and we wanted to make it count. We woke up later and decided to do the breakfast buffet in MonteCarlo. It was 10:30 am and we were at the end of the breakfast time. The food quality and quantity was fantastic. I recommend this buffet!
Our large breakfast propelled us to our whirlwind tour of casinos and hotels. We started by taking the Tram to Bellagio, then went to Caesars, Mirage and Venetian. The Venetian gondola ride got us and we booked a 4:30 pm at around 3. With an 1.5 hours to kill, we split up to conquer the hotel/mall. It was really, really nice there with tons to occupy your time. After the Gondola ride we decided to walk back to the Monte Carlo on the opposite side of the street. The Casino Royale enticed us with a free drink: we went in and actually enjoyed it. We tipped the waitress a dollar a drink and she was thrilled. We debated whether there was one or two drops of alchohol in the entire drink...hmmm. We
then found an ATM with a one dollar fee. This was in contrast to others with 3 dollar fee. We then went to Flamingo to try our luck on nickel slots. I did not win but enjoyed this casino as it was smaller. After that we crossed the street and took the tram to the MC from Bellagio. Joanie said she had to check out the MC nickel slots. She won a bit on the Haywire machine near the doors. Then off we went for dinner at the Luxor at Papyrus, a chinese restaurant that had fabulous service and a very good atmosphere. 5 of us ate and drank (beer/wine) for 133 dollar plus tip! By this time it was 11:30 pm and we decided to go to see the Mirage volcano...we were not sure when it stopped for the evening. We decided to walk. We walked so fast through Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, Monte Carlo, tram to Bellagio then past Caesars to the Mirage....this is a long way....we arrived at 12:15 and found out the Volcano stopped at midnight. In consolation we went to Treaure Island to see the darkened pirate ship and play some nickel slots. Finally we decided to call it a nite and went back to MC for Monte Carlo Brews (coupon buy one get one free) and to watch the band. Reluctantly, we went to bed at one am.
Saturday 8/24 We leave at 3, but not before we go to Paris!!! Packing the bags we decided to go back to Paris and Alladin...lunch at JJ Boulangerie was the deal. Sandwich, soup and a drink for 7.25!! It was soooo good. Paris was a really nice casino. We did not win, but had fun seeing all the quaint shops and gorgeous lobby area. Next time we want to eat at Mon Ami Gabi or the Eiffel Tower...ran out of time!! Next we made it to Alladin which gave us a free gift at the club sign up. Plus they had lots of games for us nickel girls. I won, I lost, I broke even and had tons of fun!! Then it was time to go back to Monte Carlo for our airport trip. When we got to Monte Carlo they took our bags out to the Taxi stand and it was so convenient! Off to the airport. Easy check in at Southwest. The terminal had shops where you can buy that Mirage Tshirt you wanted or that Caesar's mug you forgot you needed. All in all we saw a lot, walked a lot and had a blast. Next time we vow to explore downtown more, see Rio and Palms and gamble more!!! ;)

Hey! I thought you said there was no drinking or gambling?! [IMG]

Sounds like you had a great time!

So....there were three of you, yet dinner was for five..... hmmmmm... [IMG] [IMG]

This sounds like exactly the kind of trip I keep trying to get my wife to take with some girlfriends. Glad to hear you had lots of fun, thanks for taking the time to tell us about it. Now I am even more convinced that I need to get my wife to LV without me....I know she would love it (I do) if she would just try it.

    Sounds like a blast!

We tried to get the college roommates to do a trip to Vegas the year before last, but several weddings and a couple jobs overseas put an end to that trip. I'd still like to do it! But I'm one of the strange ones that loves to travel with my husband! I think we were both really surprised to discover we travel so well together :D

I keep hearing wonderful things about the spas in the casinos. Someday, I really have to go!!! Problem is, I spend my daily allowance on gambling....I'll have to trick myself with one of hte $ saving methods in that poll here somewhere so I can get a facial or a wrap on my next trip!
