Trip Report Rules/Guidelines: The Trip Reports section is one of the most popular and most linked sections of this board. I love the new technology that gives us the ability to have "Live" trip reports posted via laptop or SmartPhone. It is well past time that I put together some guidelines for this section to keep things organized and information easy to find. Trip Reports Start The Day You Leave For Vegas At The Earliest Pre-Trip reports or Trip Planning threads should go in the appropriate section. Most can go into Misc. Vegas Chat. Or if you're asking for advice in your thread, please put it in the corresponding section (e.g., Off-Strip Hotels, Restaurants & Buffets, Vegas Nightlife, etc.) All pre-trip reports posted here will be moved to Misc. Vegas Chat by the section's moderator(s). Tips For Composing Your Trip Report Writing a trip report can be a time consuming thing. And since computers are not always cooperative, I strongly recommend that you compose your trip report offline in something like Word or Notepad and then cut and paste it here when you are finished. Several people have spent time to compose online only to have it eaten by the internet monsters. Use Descriptive Titles To make things easier for people to keep track of things, please use descriptive titles. By that I mean something more specific than "I'm back" or "My Trip". Things you might include: The dates of your trip. Where you stayed. Was there a general theme? (eating, shopping, shows, wedding, honeymoon, golf, etc.) One Thread Per Trip Please don't create new threads for each day of your trip. You can have multiple posts in the same thread for each segment of your report if you decide to do it in pieces. Linking to Report on another site We would prefer that you compose your trip report offline and cut and paste the whole thing here. If you are going to link to another site for your full trip report or to show pictures, please be sure that you include a detailed summary of your trip, listing all the highlights and topics covered and then provide the link to your personal website or blog. We do not allow links to trip reports on other message boards. A trip report that consists mainly of a link to another site will be deleted. Use Common Sense What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas... unless you post it here. Once you hit that Submit button, your Trip Report becomes part of those InterWeb thingies. Make sure you won't have a problem with people stumbling in here to hear about your good times. Watch what pictures/videos you post in the moment. And please be sure that you have the okay of the other people in your pictures before you post them here. We all know that writing a Trip Report can be quite a big task. Just remembering all the details can be a challenge. I encourage members to write their trip report offline in something like WordPad or NotePad and then copy and paste it here. You can't deny the statistics. People love to read your Vegas Trip Reports and live vicariously through your stories. Thanks so much to those who post them! *updated 5/4/2016
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas..........unless you go with someone who posts their Trip Report on the VMB.
I was waiting for something like this, the pre-trip stuff got a little ridiculous in the TR section. Good job Sonya.
Trip reports Sonja ; I too am a avid reader of trip reports.A recent trip report on a " Retirement Trip etc." was I feel a great example of a most enjoyable read.Lately some reports and responses are a little wild and discuss some behavior which is questionable.I hope I'm not being prudist as I realize a good trip report is a lot of work.I believe your providing of some guidelines is in keeping with the aims of the board.A trip to las vegas is and should be a lot of fun, but I would not want anyone to be hurt or harmed by describing their trip to readers!!
I wouldn't want anyone hurt either! Hence, the warning. I'm pretty flexible on the content. Everyone's experience in Las Vegas is a little bit different. I like seeing the other sides from people who do things I won't ever do. We've had some classic trip reports here over the years that dealt with some pretty mature subject matter. We're all adults in here (or are supposed to be) so I always hope we have room for everyone. I think that most of the trip reports we've had over time have been perfectly fine. I worry a little bit now, with the SmartPhones, that in the moment something will get posted here that might be a regret later. Be careful out there, kids! Or maybe I'm just old now and these kids today with their Rock and Roll Technology confuze me. Anyone want to play some Pong?
thanks for maintaining the best Vegas site on the web Sonya! i'll plead guilty to the pre-trip reports, my bad, and I apologize for incorrectly posting. now that I know the proper place, the misc vegas chat, I'll keep them there.
I'd vote for a BeeJay pre-trip exception in honor of his service to this forum. His pre-trip reports are as entertaining as regular trip reports
Use Descriptive Titles-------PLEASE....I have noticed less and less of this often....You don't need to make it cutesy...name of hotel is a BIGGIE.....makes it easier when those of us looking to stay at a specific hotel are looking for threads about them....nothing wrong with short, sweet, descriptive without the snooze factor either. Many of us don't care who you were with and how much you drank and what the eye candy looked like.... Where you stayed, how was the room and service, where did you eat, how was the food, shows, information that everyone can use. Braggarts and liars can usually be seen through. This site isn't as bad as a few others I read when it comes to those....thankfully. I have found many TRs the past year to be the type that I don't even finish reading. Nouns and prices are good....too many adjectives are IMO bad. Paragraphs on what your wife was doing in the room while you hit the casino/bar ....not needed.
I think we could do a lot better with descriptive titles. But as for the rest, I think that you're expressing a personal preference. I like to hear about the drinks, eye candy and what their wife is doing while they hit the casino because I might find ideas of things to do when I'm "casino'd out". If you find a TR you're not enjoying, hit the back button and try another.
It's just that easy. Trips are unique to the individual as is the style a person uses to describe said trip. No right or wrong way to write a TR.
The more descriptive the better. Put me in the group that WANTS to hear about all the eye candy and how much you drank. I agree that prices are helpful as are the names of hotels. But don't make it short and sweet, unless that's your preference. I like as much description as possible. The less descriptive TRs are the least memorable ones, IMHO. The more descriptive ones are ones that I will sometimes go back to when I'm bored and need to kill 10 minutes.
Maybe it would be a good idea to suggest that trip reports be typed out elsewhere (word, wordpad, notepad, open source, google docs, etc) and cut and paste into the post. Many times, I've seen posters get very or because their session timed out while typing their report into these boxes we use to make our posts.
I've pretty much given up on reading TRs on this board. Almost every one now starts days before the trip and is mixed with 50 comments. No I didn't expect anyone to tailor their reports to my liking...I thought it was a thread for comments about TRs. Don't worry I have pretty much given up on this board anyway. Sorry if I had an opinion. I'm not one of the "cool kids" who consider this is their private forum.
The one-liners that seem to be more and more prevalent on the TR forum does little for me. I tend to not read those. There are a lot of post responses but if you look carefully it's all from the same group of maybe 5 to 7 members. After a while I lose interest. I'm not bashing this, I can imagine it's a lot of fun for the participants which is all good as far as I'm concerned. Lately the TR titles are starting to resemble advertisement commercials, designed to entice the prospective buyer. This is nice and all but I personally don't take the title seriously because if I don't like the TR I just press the back button like the admin. mentioned.
