    My Trip Report

Cast of characters this trip were me, hubby, (his) our daughter and wonderful son-in-law and a couple who is getting married in July. Made the mistake of taking a SW flight out that was not direct....never again. Arrived in LV about 1 1/2 hrs late on Saturday nite. Cabbed to Bally's, of course we dropped our bags in the room and we out like shots....couldn't get to a machine and a drink fast enough! Since we do not like to pay for rooms, 4 of us shared a room on Sat. nite since we knew we would not be in it much. So hubby & I didn't check into our own room till Sunday....all nites comped as usual & we arrived in LV armed with several hundred dollars in comps to cover most of our meals.

As soon as we ran some $ thru our 1st slot & we on our 2nd drink, we decided to head out. It was probably 11-12 by then. 1st stop was at Bill's & there was a monster crowd...pretty young so thought it was college nite...maybe for March Madness. Some of them were pretty entertaining though. One girl thought she was at Mardi Gras because everytime something good happened at the table their group was at...up came her shirt, she yelled at the top of her lungs and everyone in the area went nuts. I wonder if she remembered it the next day?? Next headed to Flamingo...much older group and rather boring even for us boomers. BUT, that burger joint does have that cheapo hamburger & fries for $1.99 starting at midnight. They charge you $3.75for a soft drink and everything is extra. Must say the food was very good but the service really suck eggs thru a straw! Bordered on rude...guess since we all 6 got the special, didn't think much of our patronage. Too bad they didn't notice 3 were drinking one beer after another to run up the bill for a bigger tip. (?? maybe he got up on the wrong side of the bed...how is that possible when you are in Mecca??)

Didn't stay long before heading to Bellagio to check out the poker room looking for some poker pros. Not much going on since most of them were out of town that week at another tournament. Oh well, time to check out Aria.

Aria is beautiful but what a trek it is to get there. Not sure we will do a repeat next trip. Nothing different or exciting to entice us back. Checked out PH but since I seem to always lose there, went light on the machines. By then, it was about 4 am and we were ready to head to bed. ......more to come :)

6 Days in Heaven part #2

Sunday....things start getting a little blurry and confused that day. After checking into our room, we headed down to O'Shea's ...hubby to check out the poker tourney schedule and the rest of us hit the machines. The drink service is always great there too. Rowdy bunch, as always. No poker there that excited him so we just headed out. In and out, in and out, machines, drinks, etc. Finally we decided we were hungry and Ellis Island sounded good. Armed with out bogo coupons, off we went. As I said in a warning post - strange, undesireables were lurking between EL & convenience store. No issues going in but after playing and eating, 4 of us headed out for Bally's. About 6-8 chemically altered altered males were right by the sidewalk. They were yelling at each other and talking about fighting. We ignored them and hurried by. The couple that stayed behind (engaged couple to be wed in July) came out and starting walking past them and one of the guys blocked their way. He said he wanted money and a couple more guys stood up with him. This freak pulled a switchblade knife and threatened them. Our friend said he just lost all his money playing Balckjack at EI. A weird look came over the knife bearer and he said "well, were hungry, we'll just take your food"(they had a carry out container of leftovers). Our friend said "Here ya go". the weirdo put away the knife, tood the food and got out of the way. The couple walked quickly back to Bally's without looking back. We did not know this happened until about 2 hours later or we would have called the police. Another strange thing....3 of this bunch of guys were on the cross walk between Bally's and Bill's later that night yelling, trying to fight or just generally harrassing tourists. They were very scarry indeed. I know we did not see the usual amount of law enforcement as in past visits. Cutbacks...maybe?? I will normally venture out at 2-4 am by myself to go back to our hotel & not worry at all. Well, our experience this trip has shaken the confidence in my safety and won't be taking any chances in the future.
    More to come...

6 days in Heaven part #3

Now it gets kinda boring....but did see some interesting "beggars" on the crosswalk. There were the usual guitar players or singers which is the norm but a few were quite funny. One guy sat there with a guitar case...ONLY...no instrument and wanted money. Another guy had an enpty water bottle beating it on the concrete thinking it was "music", also hoping for $. Then to top it off....a guy sat there with a sign covering his face from the nose down...it said.."My Dad was killed by Ninja Turtles and I need money for karate lessons!! Everyone was cracking up and taking his picture. He couldn't keep a stright face and was laughing behind his sign.

We went in every casino from MGM, Luxor down to TI, Mirage and Venetian / Palazzo...all the usual stuff. No fine dining for us. Mostly eat using out HET comps. Harrah's buffet for lunch, Flamingo buffy for breakfast one morning, foo court at Caesars so I could get my Lobster Chowder - YUM. Paris breakfast buffet is a must at least once each trip. Actually forgot all about Hash House at IP. We were over there several times and it didn't cross my mind till we were home...hopefully in August I'll remember.

The kids saw Zumanity and said it was great. Somehow we couldn't break away from the reason we go to LV...have to gamble most of the day and night. It takes a lot to get our "fix". August can't get here soon enough. Trip home was direct but running very late again. Somehow the SW staff just doesn't seem to be having fun anymore. Got home at 3am but already dreaming of slot machines and free drinks... :)

Glad you had a "safe" trip and a lot of fun to make you forget the seedier aspect of it. My wife and I have made that walk from Ellis to Bally's and I know how desolate it looks around there. We said that next time we go to Ellis we will be lazy and safe and get a taxi.

i have never thought that the walk was seedy....maybe it was just the time you were there....who knows...but i'm glad y'all are safe....ellis island is a favorite of ours, i hit my only royal there, and i would hate for the walk to preclude others from experiencing that place!:beer::beer:

I'm not bashing on you for not reporting it but isn't the couple that is about to be married adult enough to report this to police themselves? They at least could have reported it if 3 of the freaks were seen later on at the crosswalk. It shouldn't take you or your hubby to report it,,,heck you weren't even the victims.
