    My Trip Report

Well I am going to post an in progress update here while I still have a little bit of what has happened so far in the memory banks.

Arrived via Allegiant Air at 11pm local time. A friend picked us up so did not have to take the bus. Checked in @ MSS, 8th floor room facing highway. Pillows suck but nice sized room, and the lobby Wifi is decently fast.

Jan 3 - We needed some grub so ate at the 24 coffee shop at the Cal to start. $4 steak dinner was decent. Then a few hours of beer and JoB at the Boars head bar. Pretty brutal at JoB, did not see a 4OK. Swung by Freemont to play a bit of Star Trek slot. Moved to 4Q for nickel JoB and Bonus Poker and more beer. Back to MSS at some early morning hour for a few more beers and JoB. Also played a little keno because I was hitting autopilot zone. Had breakfast buffet at 7:45am and off to bed. Did not see a 4OK anywhere. Down a couple hundred on the night.

Jan 4 - Did not sleep great. Up around 11:30am. Hit Walgreens for a few supplies. Checked in for MSS VP Tournament at 1pm, then back to the room for a nap. Got up around 3pm and hit the Golden Gate for a shrimp cocktail. NO LONGER 99c. $1.99 even with players club card. Hit the Freemont for some Pickem Poker and beers. A couple hours in was down about $100 but hit a 4OK to recover and we went to eat dinner at El Cortez. Good service and iced tea. Had the Southwest burger and coleslaw. burger as good, coleslaw was meh. Walked over to the Gold Spike to check out the remodel. Looks good! "Sexy" blackjack dealers were not bad looking and it was $3 with decent rules looked like. Also appeared to be a $1 video machine with 3:2 Blackjack. No Schlitz on tap though. :-( Went to La Bayou then, as advertised, crazy strong drinks and fast service. Cocktail waitress appeared to be bringing us random drinks despite whatever we ordered but we really did not care. Slots were pretty loose left about $40 up. Over to Mermaids where 3-4 cocktail waitresses bring you a constant supply of drinks. Once we were 3 deep in drinks they started bringing shots. Barely had any time to play any slots. After about 45 minutes of that we had to leave, lest we die of alcohol poisoning within the hour. Friend got on the big screen, then to Freemont for more Pickem Poker. Was down about $175 when I hit a straight flush woot! We then played some Star Trek slot. Hit a bonus and pulled about $50 positive off that. Milled around Freemont a bit then back to MSS for JoB and beer. No luck there again but beer is cold and good. Had $4 chicken tenders at Cal coffee shop around 3am. SLOW service. Back to MSS for a little more beer and JoB. Hit bed around 5am.

Jan 5 - Got up to play VP tournament at the Cal 10am. No 4OK or Royal. 2nd session tomorrow same time. Walked up Freemont losing $40 on slots at Binions and $20 on Slots at Fitz. Played Star Trek slot at Freemont, after slowly eroding $100 over the course of an hour, hit a Enterprise flyby Win Warp for about 8 Jackpot symbols and a ~$500 win. Woot! Had lunch at the Aloha on the Cal walkway. Some sort of combo platter. Was average at best. Napped in an out of consciousness then until about 6pm. our friend took us to In and Out Burger and then the Bellagio for gelato. Back to MSS where we sit here in the lobby to catch up on emails and I write this trip report. Going back to the hotel room now to watch The Hangover off iTunes. Then pry sleep but may come back down for a little gambling.

Until the next update good luck.

Jan 6 - Got up and played session two of the VP tournament. Saw a lot of 3 of a kind but no luck on a 4OK. Pry won't place but it was fun. We went to Freemont for lunch buffet, and I won a quick $20 on slots while waiting for the buffet to open. Average quality but drink service was great. Back at MSS now, going to try to catch Steve Balmers keynote at CES tonight.

We got in line for Balmer's keynote around 4:45 pm. It got started about 20 minutes late because there was a power outage in the hall right at 6:30. Nothing to mind blowing from Microsoft. After the keynote we walked over to Riviera and started down the strip. Stopped at Casino Royale for a few $1 beers and hit a little Star Trek slots. One of the machines was glitching like mad. Pretty decent crowd at Casino Royale. We tried going to the Apple Store at Fashion Show Mall but it was closed. That place is a lot bigger than I expected. We then continued down the strip, walking through the various casino. It's all too ritzy and glitzy but we did a good job of not spending any money. A LOT of "free limo rides" to the strip clubs. We got to MGM around 12:30am and decided to take the monorail back up instead of the Deuce since it was pretty late. We got to Sahara around 1:15am and it was a complete wasteland. Besides the $1 roulette and "blackjack" tables by the Nascar Cafe this place was empty. They have to be bleeding cash. We had a $1 shot and High Life at the bar there and I gave what my friend called an "epic cold shoulder" to a hooker. We then were going to take the Deuce back downtown but decided we would walk towards The STRAT and pop in if we got there before a Deuce went by. We did but ended up going into the Aztek Inn instead. It was a bit busier than the Sahara. We bought a round of beer and popped a few bucks in the bar VP. 1c VP with 5c max bet, it was not full pay but the paytables were not bad at that bet level ha. These machines could not lose though. It was insane. We saw so many straights, flushes, 4OK and Full Houses. I literally could not lose 5 bucks. AND the bartender comped us three rounds of beers then. We tipped him 5 bucks every time for a round of three because these machines were paying stupid. Finally I got 5 bucks down to $3 and it was getting to be like 3am, not 100% sure. We went to Carls Jr to get some Big Carl meals but the lobby was closed. Someone in the parking lot drove through for us though. Went to the Deuce stop then and chatted with a bum for a while, he had some stories ha, he just came from McDonalds where the Kentucky Headhunters wanted him to come play drums. He did not actually ask for anything the whole time and when the Deuce came we did give him a extra burger we had. We got back DT around 3:30-4amish? and hit the Freemont for some Star Trek slots. Did ok there but no cocktail waitress to be seen for a long time. We finally got a cocktail and I played slots a little more while my one friend went to play Pick'em and the other friend went back to the hotel. I went over to Pick'em then and hit a quick straight and my friend hit a 4OK so we cashed out. Ended up about even on the day including all food and drinks. NOT BAD. Sun was up on the walk back to MSS. I dumped my CES bag at the hotel and we hit the breakfast buffet at 7am. Manny hooked us up with some bigass omelets. I stopped at the hotel desk and managed to get a 1pm checkout and time for a little sleep finally. We got up about noon and of course I felt, smelled and tasted like a dying ashtray. Checked out and headed to 4Q. Was abled to get checked in at 1:30pm. We are on 14th floor facing strip not bad, but the room was super hot and we have not been able to get it to cool down much. otherwise clean and not as worn as MSS due to the remodel a few years ago. Doesn't look like we are going to make it to CES today ha, might try to make the night Keynote. I am going to go over to Fremont to try their 99c shrimp cocktail and nap first. We will be taking it easy today/night because we really do need to get to CES tomorrow.

I also need to bet on the Cowboys and Packers at some point. The 4Q sportsbook is such a joke ha ha but maybe they have favorable lines to offset that ha. Otherwise pry just bet at a Boyd property. We also are going to try to make it to the Double Down on this trip yet. Maybe Saturday.

Until the next update good luck.

Just survived a walk to and from The Western. It smelled mostly of vomit and broken dreams. We had a beer and got out. We also walked through Neonopolis. Telemundo studio looked cool but that place feels like a natural disaster hit.

Too bad you didn't hit anything in the tournament. :( But sounds like a fun trip so far!

Did you get any kind of a gift at registration for the tourney?
