    My Trip Report

Finally got there this year after two cancellations due to an illness in the family. We usually go around the wife's birthday in mid-September but mother-in-law went into hospice and woo-la she pulled through and is back to normal. We always stay at the GN. Hotel good as always. Flights from Philly basically good on US AIR. Long flight going out as headwinds from storm made the flight 5 hours and 13 minutes. The gaming gods were not kind this trip. Wifey had no good hits on the slots and Video Poker produced no Royals. Got fair play at Binion's on VP, including four aces with a 2,3,4, on DDB. Several four of a kind but never at the dollar or quarter level. Somehow playing sixty nickles a pop got me a profit one evening of $ 180.00. Took a side bar to Texas Station which was a first time for us. Easy to reach via the route 106 which stops at the door. It's about a 20 minute ride. Fiesta is the next stop from the Station. Texas Station is pretty much a locals place but they have an excellent variety of the newer penny games and excellent video poker pay tables. Drink service is excellent. Really enjoyed our time there and will visit on our next trip. Also did a sidebar to M Resort. Hopped the shuttle at Fashion Show Mall. Used the 116 bus from DTC to Fashion Show Mall, to avoid the deuce. Shuttle driver gives everyone a bottle of water upon boarding. About a 25 minute trip to M with one stop at a hotel resort ( Grandview), I think about two minutes from M. The M resort is unique in that the casino has free soft drinks at stations on the floor. Buffet is excellent. Join the slot club and they give you five dollars free play and a buffet discount. Casino appears well run and is customer friendly. Cleanliness is excellent. What's weird is that Las Vegas Blvd. becomes a two lane road after you pass Grandview. When you think about how wide it is on the strip , it just seems odd. Wanted to touch on Texas Station and M, as there are not a lot of comments on the board about those two. Best dinner was at Redwood at the Cal. Been dining there for years and it's always good. Just another note, bus fares are going up in January. The deuce can still be a mess during peak times. Sam's Town is still a fun place. Essentially, downtown does not seem to change much. Golden Nugget Sports Book now requires two drink tickets for premium liquor, instead of one. Fremont is starting to look dated and tired but it maintains it's old charm. Vegas Club and Plaza should be imploded. They were not very active and the LVC just does not have a good feel. First time we were there in October and found the weather to be excellent. Printed out the Fremont Street Experience coupons and no problems using them. Looking forward to next year. Thanks to everyone who posts on this board. There's always a lot of good information. May the horse be with you. AL

    Redwood

I usually have the New York Strip and my better half has the 8 oz. filet. Never tried the Porterhouse. Our bill with one appetizer (French Onion Soup) and two Crowns and Cokes was $68.00. I think the Redwood is an excellent value. It is closed on Weds and Thursday. As an aside, the Pasta Pirate in the Cal is now closed on Tuesday.

Sounds like you had a great time. Too bad the gambling pays were stingy. I hope all is better healthwise and otherwise for your family. Thanks for posting. :)

Great TR ~ Glad you were able to finally make it there

the M resort casino does sound unique, with the soft drink stations ... be handy on a hot day for sure lol

I've had those kind of greedy slots too, where they keep all your money and give nothing in return lol

Actually we found the payouts at M to be pretty decent. I played max nickels on
a five play DDB Video poker machine and played for about two hours and cashed out ten bucks ahead. Actually put 91 points on my card, my wife said the quarter slots kept her going about four hours. It's an interesting place. In my opinion it just seemed that they were very concerned about customer relations and keeping the player happy. It just seemed like a well managed property. I would recommend a visit if you have the time.

    PP,

It's good to hear about your experience at M. My better half and I were there in March right after they opened and I commented on how friendly and pleasing the service was. I'm glad that hasn't changed. It seems like customer service (in Vegas) has taken a back seat to higher profits in the last ten years or so, hopefully M wont get bought out by Harrah's anytime soon.
