    My Trip Report

I got back a few days ago from another successful trip to Vegas and here is my report.

Well, I flew in Friday morning. I was exhausted from traveling and couldn't get an early check-in at my hotel yet, so, I drove over to Planet Hollywood, climbed into the back seat of my car, and took a nap. :)

Early in the afternoon, I was able to check in at the Golden Nugget. Check in went well, the facility was nice, the room was spacious and clean. I really enjoyed my stay there. The weather was warm, so the pool and pool-side bar were open. Actually, the weather that weekend of Feb. 15 - 17th, was the nicest I have seen in my last six years of President's Day weekend.

I met up with a friend, and had dinner at Binion's Coffeehouse. I had a roast beef dinner at a good price and service was good. At the last minute, we decided to see if we could go see a show. We were able to go see Rich Little, the impersonator, at the Golden Nugget. The show was okay. He did a lot of his old stuff and a few new things. I am not sure if it was worth the $50 though. If I had spent a little more time doing my research, the Golden Nugget was offering a deal where you could get their buffet AND see the Rich Little show for only $3 more. That would have been a much better deal and if you want to see Rich, try to look for this deal (they had fliers near the Golden Nugget ticket office)

After the show, we walked around Freemont Street some until we ended up at Gold Diggers night club, on their balcony overlooking Freemont Street. We had some good priced drinks as we waited until another friend joined us. I hung out for another hour before heading off to bed early.

Saturday, the 16th, I checked out of the Nugget, and then went to the Las Vegas Harley Davidson store with my friends. One of my friends was going to check out some of the newer models of motorcycles and got some information about renting one for the next day. Then, we went down to the Bass Pro Shop, which is just along the freeway, north of South Point. I like outdoor sports so I had a good time browsing the store. Then, my friends and I went over to the Hard Rock Cafe to eat at the Pink Taco. As always, the food was great.

My friends and I then split up, and I went to go check into Polo Towers on the strip. Just as I was checking in, the rest of my co-workers arrived from the airport. We all went up to our rooms and unpacked. Some of us went out to eat.

Saturday night, as a large group, we, my co-workers and I, hooked up with my friends. We walked over to Caesars Palace. We had some cheap daiquiris in that outdoor booth with multiple flavors. We then went into the Shadow Bar inside the casino. We had some high priced and tasty martinis, watched some nice shadow dancing up behind the screens, and did some people watching. Then we ended up over at Margaritaville at the Flamingo where we partied until 2 in the morning. Since many in our party were still on central time, they started to crash.

Sunday, a few of us staying at the Polo Towers went out for lunch at the Harley Davidson cafe. They were quite busy and the food was fine. We then did some boring things, such as registering for our convention down at Mandalay Bay, and then going and buying groceries at a local store.

Sunday evening, my co-workers went to go see Howie Mandel at Mandalay Bay, a complimentary show that came with our convention registration. However, I still had jet lag after two days so I stayed home, and went to bed early.

Monday and Tuesday were convention days. We got up early, went to classes at Mandalay Bay, and then came home (Polo Towers) late afternoon. Tuesday evening, one my co-workers and I took advantage of another complimentary concert, LeAnn Rimes, the young country music star. We got lucky, and were able to walk right up so we were only about 50 feet away from her for the entire concert. It was great and my co-worker and I had a great time.

Wednesday, was more classes, but Wednesday night we drove down to Freemont Street. Some of my co-workers had never been there before so I wanted to make sure they got a taste of old downtown Vegas. We ate at Binion's Coffeehouse, and saw a few light shows, and ended up at Gold Diggers at the Nugget. For a Wednesday night, it was really quiet in the club, I would say only about 12 patrons there total. We had a few good, fairly priced martinis, and then went back to the Polo Towers for the night.

Thursday, we had a few more classes in the morning, but in the afternoon, one my co-workers and I left Vegas to travel back to Minnesota. The rest of my co-workers stayed until Saturday, the 23rd.

Overall, I had a great time in Vegas again this year and look forward to going back again next February. The one outstanding thing this year, was the weather. It was absolutely perfect.

    Craig

Glad you had a great time. So lucky to see those free shows! That puts the icing on the cake.

Thanks, Craig. I've been wondering how Gold Diggers is. It looks like a nice little club.

Not a bad deal you "have" to go to Vegas for work. How are the Polo Towers and are there any restrictions staying there?
