Last trip we taught two of our girlfriends to play craps, let’s call them Lena & Sherry. They were not feeling like they had the bankroll to play on the strip so we went downtown and had an amazing run at Downtown Grand. One of Lena’s friends told her we have to go to Jerry’s nugget for fun low limit craps. Before we Lyft over there, tell me if this was a good tip? Is Jerry’s gonna meet our needs as an alternative to Downtown Grand? Are their craps tables open 7 days a week? Is it safe in that part of town?

I would consider it a good alternative. It's safe enough, but I wouldn't necessarily walk there from downtown after dark. Using Uber/Lyft is perfectly fine. Craps tables are open 7 days, $5 minimum with 2x odds. Jerry's is one of my favorite casinos anywhere, but I'm a dive joint kinda guy, so that tracks!

Very rough at night DO NOT BE WALKING AROUND THE AREA. Cab or Uber only and it's a fun place.

I seriously doubt if I would ever go alone, but I've been at night many times with others and never felt unsafe. The casino is well guarded and the lot is lit and patroled.

Great selection of the now-vintage video slots that I like and VP, and great food! Their prime rib is just as tasty as that at Lawry's, really!

No problem with safety great food at the cafe and bakery for a good price nice selection of new and older slots, low minimum tables, keno and bingo, vp on bar tops and machines on the floor also great first time players sign up and they have a good comp system after that we have been stopping here to play and eat for over 20 years

I try to go to Jerry's at least once each trip.
Table games are cheap and fun. Blackjack $5 a hand (and I think I have even seen it as low as $3) I don't play craps so I don't know the limits but I expect low compared to anything you would see on the strip or Freemont St.
It has a decent selection of slots with a mix of older early 2000's slot machines and a mix of the newer dragonlink etc.
I have never felt unsafe there. The clientele is more of a local lower income class. I remember a guy winning $100 and was screaming at the top of his lungs with excitement.

If you are in the mood for other entertainment there is 2 strip clubs right across the street. A lot of people uber to the casino and play for a bit.. then walk to the strip club to try and avoid any extra admission charges they add when you arrive by taxi or uber/lyft. I have walked to both of them as they are about 100ft out the Valet door and never felt unsafe. But I would not walk any further down the street as it is pretty sketchy the farther away you get from the casino.

The homeless camp use to go all the way to the bus stop out front of Jerry’s. Looks like it stops a little farther south now. Still see it on the sidewalk going up N LV Blvd or N Main coming from El Cortez. No homeless in the parking lot or casino. Clientele are mostly friendly locals. A few are a little rough though but never felt threatened. I’ve had more scary encounters on the strip or Fremont area than my times in Jerry’s. Once at the cage some early 20s gangster types cut in front of me. I just smiled and ignored them and waved over to the cage by the other cashier like a minute later.

Craps I believe never goes above $5. Only 2X odds, wish it was still $3. When it was $3 they didn’t have $0.50 chips for payouts on the 6 or 8 like sat Fremont did. I heard people say the dealers can be surly but I never experienced it. I think the dealers are great, old school, friendly been around the block and know their stuff. Maybe guys downsized from strip properties.

I think the craps dealers are inexperienced but try to be friendly. I thought the boxman was a jerk -- insisting that the shooter hit the wall with both dice with more vehemence than was warranted -- but only if the shooter has first made a point.

Jerry's Nugget reminded me of the Cal-Neva in downtown Reno. Somewhat run-down with an "earthy" but not dangerous clientele. My wife would not enjoy either scene.

    Edited to fix typos.

interesting I’ve only seen older dealers that looked and acted the part of guys with 30+ years experience. I’ve also only gone during the day.

Also I feel like it’s pretty well kept up, with recent updates to the coffee shop and other areas. I thought a lot nicer on the upkeep than the Cal Neva that truly looks like it’s on its last legs. Not that I dislike the Cal Neva.

If you ever experience sultry dealers at Jerry's, please return and report. That would make one hell of a story.
