Anybody ride the free Downtown Loop shuttle, then walk to Sahara?

I'm going to be in town in a few days, and discovered with a Google search that there is a free downtown shuttle that goes to the arts district, the outlet mall, and The STRAT . The Strat is only a half mile from the Sahara, so it would be an easy walk to briefly visit the casino and then take the monorail to Center or South Strip.

I'm aware that the area around the Strat is a little sketchy, but figure I will only be making the trip in the daytime. Just curious if anyone has done this, and if so, how laborious a process is it? Thanks.

The Strat —> Sahara walk is not bad at all, the shuttle is free, and leagues better than taking the Deuce.

Except for First Friday, it’s also generally empty. So if no one is onboard, the driver will ask where you’re going and will skip stops if no one is waiting.

Their site also has an app you can download to track exactly where the shuttle is.

Just looking at the website, it doesn’t look like there is any kind of a schedule for the stops. But it looks like you can follow the shuttle on the app. We may use this when we go in February to get to the Strat.

I did this in June and it was a piece of cake. Drops you off in back entrance of Sahara. Quick walk through the casino and out the front door. Can grab a quick beer or cheap bite to eat at Aztec Inn on the way too. Make sure you get on going the right direction. Just tell shuttle driver your destination and they will tell ya.

If you are just interested in connecting to the monorail there is a city bus that goes from Binion’s to Sahara which is faster and runs on schedule. The Loop shuttle is pretty random but the app helps with that. I have also had Loop drivers go off route and deliver me directly to my destination. When you leave the Strat taxi circle you are treated to a fly by of perhaps the sketchiest 7/11 in all of Vegas.

Good sir the 7-11 near the el co holds the designation of sketchiest 7-11 I've ever been in. Does this one by the strat beat that one? I may have to go ....ANy store that sells beer that is locked up and an employee must get for you is my kind of place.

Can't wait to try this. No matter how much you've done, there is always more new stuff to do in Vegas!

Yeah that El Co 7-11 is pretty sketchy but this Strat 7-11 might be the most infamous.

I went to this laundromat next to the sketchy El Cortez 7-Eleven. Never again! Don’t know what I was thinking — I was the only one there and occasionally someone would pop his head in, look around the place, then leave.

Three others were standing in the 7-Eleven parking lot, standing still like zombies.

I have walked between the Strat and the Sahara several times over the years, day and evening, hot and cool weather, usually solo, and survived.

It gets incredibly hot in the summer afternoon! That is the worst of it.

I have not tried it during the wee hours and probably would not!

In the daytime and early evening it it perfectly safe, but be streetwise and don't look like a victim!

In the later evening it gets, well, earthy, and if you're comfortable and used to walking in most urban areas in the later evening, you will be fine. Again, keep moving, keep up your pace, keep an eye on things, and don't be a victim!

Once you get in the vicinity of the World's Largest Gift Shop (tm) you should be fine.

Anyone ever seen that video from 10+ years back of a homeless guying beating a random car at the light in front of the World's Largest Gift Shop with a crowbar or bat? Scary stuff.

I walked that route many times this last summer, only in day light. Expect to see half a dozen or more homeless/drug addicts. The highest concentration was at the aztec inn, there were also a "crazier" group between the dispensary and Walgreens at the NE corner of Sahara. I never had any issues being solo besides having to step over one guy passed out on the sidewalk, but I'm also a big guy that walks in a straight line.

I know that the Aztec Inn near the Strat is the sketchiest mini-casino I’ve ever been to— goddamn cantina scene from the first Star Wars movie come to life.

I posted my response before scrolling down to your (earlier) response.

That article from Vice is one of my three favorite articles ever (the other top contender is an old Michael Konik article about a gambler who had every single chocolate ($5k) chip from Binion’s and blew it all back.

    Here’s that article:
