Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe… smokey & deserted

Soooo we noticed a massive “mushroom” cloud above smokey skies on our drive up from the Bay Area yesterday. Arrived at Harrah’s yesterday about 4pm.
A new fire west of Lake Tahoe is attempting to rain on our annual beach trip, but we shall not be deterred! (We have experienced much worse up here.)

It's the Mosquito Fire in Placer County. Started Tuesday, quadrupled in size, still out of control.

Other than the smoke, only thing you may want to monitor is your return route; although it's fairly distant from both 50 & 80, it may create a very smokey drive home.

Now…back to gambling & all of the Harrah’s happenings.
I understand there is a SevenStars event here tonight. Dinner & raffle. Lots of folks here for Alabama show Friday. We were planning to see Jackson Browne Saturday if it’s not canceled due to smoke.
I had lots of luck last night on VP.

The Harrah’s hotel hallways were filled with wildfire scent last night! It was crazy seeing the deserted outdoor dining near Stateline. I feel for the businesses up here. Last I read was the fire more than doubled to almost 30,000 acres today!

Oh no, not good! Thanks for that information. Our original plan was to head home Monday, but maybe tomorrow AM if AQI doesn’t improve.

I can’t imagine Jackson Browne will play under these conditions. So far there has been no word on Alabama cancelling their show tonight, so who knows. Both shows were postponed from last September so I am sure no one wants to cancel again.

 

Too bad no place big enough to move show indoors.

So they have a swipe your card free play “your risk, your reward” promo this weekend and my guaranteed FP was $70. Then you were given a low, medium or high risk option. All minimum rewards were $45 so it was a no-brainer to go for it! I forgot what the low & medium reward amounts were because of course I am going to risk $25 FP to go for the high reward of $1000 ( never thinking I would actually get it because it’s Harrah’s & I have little faith ). Looky here!!!

That orangey haze is how I remember Lake Tahoe in September 2020. It's unsettling to say the least. Good luck to you and everybody out there!
