Enjoying the suite life at the Signature

In lieu of exchanging Christmas gifts, Frank and I decided we’d spoil ourselves with a stay at the Signature. I booked this past Sunday night for $159. Additionally, we signed up for the MGM/Mirage credit card a couple months back, since we frequent their properties most often and figured we could enjoy extra perks and earn rewards to use toward dinners and/or hotel stays. One of the perks offered is early/late check in.

We arrived at the Signature at eleven o’clock. Check in was a breeze, we asked the agent what perks our credit card awarded us? She checked with her manager and then let us know we'd be upgraded to a one bedroom suite. We were issued keys to room 34-714 in the second tower, I signed paperwork and we were off to our home for the night.

We were blown away by the suite; the photos on their website don't do the rooms justice.

The balcony was huge! There were two sliding doors, one in the living room and another in the bedroom, but the balcony didn't end there, it continued on twice that distance.

After we took in the balcony views, we laid in bed and watched football. Then we enjoyed my idea of the perfect white Christmas, a Jacuzzi tub overflowing with bubbles. We relaxed and lounged about until hunger struck. We walked over to MGM Grand, made reservations for an hour later, at Seablue. We made a couple sports bets and played a new Slingo slot and Sigma derby to pass the time until dinner.

At Seablue, we had chilled gulf prawns to start, along with a Caesar salad. Delicious, I could eat those all day and night. I was anticipating having halibut, but it wasn't offered on this visit. The waiter suggested striped bass, but I opted for Australian prawn skewers instead. Frank selected the lamb skewers. Our dishes were beautifully presented; I wished I had thought to snap a picture. They were equally as tasty. Shockingly, we each had room for dessert so Frank ordered Tiramisu

After we finished dinner we checked the score of the football game and saw that we won our first half bet, so we walked over to the sports book to cash the ticket. We also stopped in the gift shop and bought chocolate. Then we went back to the room and cracked open a bottle of Champagne. We toasted in bed and watched the rest of the football game. We won our other bet, too. We popped open another bottle of Champagne, ate some chocolates and lounged in bed. I dozed off and woke when the door bell rang; Frank had ordered room service, chicken fingers and a pastrami sandwich. I had a bite of each and went back to bed. Frank took a bath and later joined me.

We had a great night's rest, but we stayed in bed most of the morning. We made good use of the tub and then ordered room service. We each had banana nut French toast and Frank also ordered cinnamon rolls.





After breakfast, we went out on the balcony to bask in the rays. We watched flights come and go, I read the paper and Frank smoked a cigar. It was perfect way to start the Christmas holiday. Sadly, one o'clock rolled around and we reluctantly called the bell desk to come grab our bags so we could check out. It was tempting to stay until they physically removed us, but felt it was best to go willingly since we'd like to return. We ran over to sport book, cashed our ticket, then returned to the Signature and settled our bill. Valet pulled up our car and another fantastic stay had drawn to a close. The only bright side to leaving was that there was no flight to catch, just a short 10 minute drive home.

 

I always look forward to your reports as I know they will include awesome photos of the room and this one was one of your best. What an excellent way to spend Christmas. Thanks for the write up, as always, I enjoyed it!

Fabulous way to spend Christmas

 

As always and excellent report followed up with great pictures. I had heard that the Signature was nonsmoking, is this correct or can you smoke on the balconies but not in the rooms?

 

They should hire you as a travel agent for the property! Did you have to pay the resort fee?

P.S. I've smoked cigars on balconies at non-smoking properties before. My theory is that it's outdoors! (But I do take care of my own "cleanup".)

The property is non-smoking. Frank has smoked cigars on the balcony on both of our stays, like Reston, he cleans up after himself and he doesn't let any smoke waft into the room. You're probably not supposed to, and if the room smells like smoke you can be charged a cleaning fee. Same went for the Platinum when we stayed there.

We paid the resort fee. Theirs is one of the few I don't might paying, because I feel like I get something in return: coffee, tea, water, wireless internet, newspaper, and use of the 24 hr exercise facility.

I've got friends staying at the Sig during our trip there at the end of March, but I'm concerned with the description I read of it as a "non-gaming" site. I like being in the middle of a lot of craziness, and am leaning towards a more traditional hotel/casino.

Is the Sig a particularly calm or quiet atmosphere?

 

It is quiet, non-gaming and non-smoking... but the sensory overload, crowds, games, and whatnot are a 10-minute stroll away. It's the best of both worlds (IMO). We enjoy it so much, we couldn't pass up the $149 rate to stay again this Sunday.

We had another great stay at the Signature. We tried to upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite again, but none were available. Our room was in tower 2 on the 37th floor (37-715)














We got settled and ordered room service. Frank had a ham and cheese omlet and I had the scumptious banana nut french toast. Afterwards, we relaxed... in the tub, in bed. Delightful. When hunger struck we made reservations at Nobhill, we dressed and walked over to MGM.

Nobhill was very quiet, but it started to fill up toward the end of our meal. We were seated in a private booth. We started with cheese fondue and charcuterie board. The selection of meats were very good and the aged parm was the best I've ever tasted. The fondue was divine. Frank ordered the special, bone-in ribeye. It was delicious! We agreed it was better than those we've had at Delmonico. It was served with roasted potatoes, watercress, and a veggie medley. I had bacon wrapped berkshire pork loin, which was accompanied by roasted duck, and brussel sprouts. They also delivered a variety of potato puree: horseradish, tomato, pesto, garlic and traditional. Everything was excellent. We passed on dessert, but we received hot chocolate as a complimentary after dinner treat. Needless to say, we were pleased by yet another Michael Mina restaurant.

We hit the casino, we each played $20 in a new nickle slot. I lost $20, Frank won $20, even money, we went on to play Sigma derby. Frank lost his share fairly quickly. I was doing well, so I gave him the quarters I had left. He ended up winning a few races, he cashed out once he broke even. We went on to drop a couple quarters in misc. slots. Anytime we won, I'd cash out the ticket. By the time we were done, I had a handful of TITO slips. We cashed those in and wound up $6.25 ahead. We had fun, too.

After our "big win" we decided it was best to take the money and run. We stopped in the Signature lounge to redeem our 2 free drinks (included in the room promotion, along with $25 dining credit) we each had an ice cold beer. When we got back to our room, we cracked open a bottle of champagne and snuggled in bed. There's nothing better. Eventually, we dozed off...

I was first to rise, but I lounged in bed and watched tv most of the morning. Frank got up and soaked in the tub. Then, he ordered room service. We had the same spread as the day before. Excellent, once again.

We noticed that there was a guy washing windows on tower 1. Unreal to see him bouncing around 40 stories up.





After breakfast, I took a bubble bath, while Frank enjoyed a cigar on the balcony. Wouldn't it be lovely if every day started like this?

We lounged around the room until check out at 1pm. I only spent a short-time on the balcony, it was a bit cool and the sun didn't hit our unit. The views were nice, much like those we had on our first stay. I want to compare those pictures to these and see how much construction progess has been made in 5 months.











We were reluctant to leave, but we knew we'd return. We settled the hotel charges, then valet brought around our car. Rather than heading straight home, I suggested we stop at the Atomic Testing Museum. We killed two hours there, we learned a lot about the Nevada Test Site and the history of the atomic bomb. T'was very interesting! As usual time slipped by way too fast, but it was highly enjoyable playing tourist.
