Saw this today. Some interesting and upbeat news.

An Arizona man who unknowingly won a jackpot while in Vegas was tracked down in after he had already returned home and given the good news.

The tourist was playing a slot at Treasure Island on January 8 when he hit a jackpot worth about $230,000. However, due to some type of malfunction, he was unable to see that the jackpot had hit.

The Gaming Board reviewed video footage, witness accounts, and ride share data to finally track him down in Arizona.

I just read about this in LVRJ.

Great to hear some happy news. Interesting story, but I want more details. What the heck happened as he was playing the game?

"On the evening of Jan. 8, Taylor was playing a progressive slot machine at Treasure Island when a communications glitch on the machine prevented him and casino floor personnel from determining whether he had won the jackpot".

Agree, did it just lock up or did he win and they told him it was a malfunction?

He must not have been using a players card.:nono:

"thanked the Nevada Transportation Authority for helping locate Robert Taylor through its ride-hailing records"

I guess Uber rides are public record in Nevada?

Amazing!! Especially all the work they went thru to identify him!!(I take it he wasn't playing with a players card).

I just read this story on the Vital Vegas blog! I was really curious if he won some smaller jackpot, but the payout should have been higher? Did he play a normal session and then walk away having won a jackpot and never realizing it? Lots of questions, but one of those really cool unbelievable stories that I hope happens to me someday.

If they can make one error why can't they make another and track me who has never been to Treasure Island down in Australia and pay me the jackpot. Haven't they heard that 2 wrongs actually can make a right.

I am a person who believes that casinos do not to try to cheat you. All of the odds in the casino favor the casino. We all know this. If you win fair and square they will pay you fair and square. But they are not going to let you cheat them. This story just shows that casinos can be fair and square.

It is nice that they made the effort to track this man down. Did they really have an obligation to do that? Most people think they would have tried to cheat the man and keep the jackpot because that is what casinos do.

I win a progressive jackpot on a slot machine every time I go to Vegas. Doesn't everyone? :)

The guy must not have realized how the machine paid or he should have questioned why he didn't hear bells, sirens or whatever. The visual recognition is pretty clear on most machines regarding the symbols that produce a win, notwithstanding a jackpot! If the malfunction was that the visual display didn't represent the winning symbols, etc. how would anybody have known not to walk away? So, I'll be waiting for my call from the Gaming Commission after each trip knowing they are so invested in finding the legitimate winner! I shouldn't be hard for them to find me since I always use my cards.

Regardless of whether they have an obligation (and once he hits the jackpot, the money is his, plus the fact that the internals showed that there was a win is what counts and gets reported to Gaming, the bells and whistles are just bells and whistles), this is yet another example of how the casinos are there to win, but fairly. They're not out to screw us; the machines take in enough money without resorting to chicanery. The vast majority of casino executives and managers don't want to cheat a guest out of anything.

See, those people who say "you don't win if you use a card" are RIGHT!

And thanks to this, when you return home with your bankroll gone, and that annoying person at work asks "So, did you WIN?", you can now honestly and realistically tell them, "I might have. I'm waiting to find out."

According to the story, it didn't display on the machine or ping the slot system to alert them to come out with the paperwork. It's not like he just left a $229k ticket in the machine.

Probably didn't want to risk carrying all that money while driving back through Searchlight.
