I'm craving roasted chicken a la Seattle's Le Pichet and herb spaetzle, maybe get some beets and arugula from the farmers' market for a salad. Came back from the northlands with some Oregon Pinots. That just might be the ticket.

    You???

The last post of 2021. My New Year's tradition of having Dungeness Crab for New year's Eve. Commercial Dungeness Crab season started on the 29th.
The victims. 3.5 lb total at $8.99/lb.

    After their "sauna"

This year I ate the "crab butter" from the shells. I made a pot of rice and put the crab butter over the rice. Real FOB style.

    Yum yum!:feedme:

I like to turn the crab upside down when removing the main shell. It captures the juices and then I gently scoop the crab butter into the crab shell and mix it with fresh hot rice. The main shell becomes my rice bowl.

I also dip the meat I get from the legs and shoulder clusters into this mixture.

Yeah, I thought about that method, but the crabshell doesn't hold enough rice for this Asian-American.

We're FINALLY getting cold weather, thank goodness! My weather station hit 80 on Saturday which is ridiculous. 23 overnight. Fun snowy day yesterday. I made sweet potato & chorizo soup. Meatballs tonight - I think with creamy sauce & noodles (meatballs I made a couple months ago - I always make a big batch and freeze extra).

I got a couple new cookbooks in November I want to look through more for ideas - Gefilte Manifesto (Ashkenazi Jewish) and Bottom of the Pot (Persian). I don't buy cookbooks very often but these were recommended to me by a good friend ages ago and I finally grabbed them....

Opa’s sausage. In this corner Opa’s and sauerkraut in the other corner the better meal. Opa’s and Red cabbage.

Low carbing. Spaghetti squash with Sal’s Red gravy. Not bad for jarred sauce. Browned some mild Italian sausage, threw in the sauce and let simmer. Picked up a tip about putting the squash in the microwave for 4 minutes to soften the flesh. Much easier to cut. Took left overs to work.

I do onion, celery, bell pepper, minced garlic, and jalapeño. I switch up the seasonings, but in general do garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, roasted garlic salt, smoked paprika, and gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes). I also add a bouillon cube. I switch up the meats - sometimes smoked turkey neck, sometimes smoked turkey leg, and this time I did andouille.

A big fry up - we need to change the oil in the fryer so wanted one last fry. Used up bag of tater tots, bag of pizza rolls, and last cheese curds I bought on our last trip to Wisconsin. (I did a half tempura batter - very nice!) And used up the last of the mixed greens in the fridge too, so it wasn't ALL fried o_O PXL_20220106_234400624.MP.jpg

Whoa, pardon me while I put my socks back on. Think I might come by your house around suppertime. Thanks for the suggestions.

I’ve been slacking a bit since there’s been some things you’ve all seen before, but new year, new thread so what the heck.
    From last week

    Crispy skin salmon and polenta

Tacos al pastor heading into the oven and then plated with my first attempt at making refried beans (needed a little salt but otherwise pretty good)

And from tonight bolognese with fettuccine, both from scratch
