Apparently it was announced/confirmed yesterday. They 'temp' closed it during WSOP and then just decided not to reopen it.

It is funny having the company that owns WSOP only running 2 poker rooms on the strip anymore.

Hate seeing any room close especially this close to holidays.

It sucks that they knew it would close but didn't tell the dealers until the Series was basically over. That's not right.

Had a lot of great times here. This place had some truly great games in 2005-2015. Cowboy heaven during the Rodeo. But I also can't blame anyone for closing a room that only gets 3-7 games going at the front corner of a Strip resort. It can't be worth the floor space.

We aren't all that far from there only being 6-7 ish rooms on the Strip (Aria/Bellagio/Venetian/Wynn/WSOP room at Ballys/Caesars/maybe one of MGM or Mandalay.) If you squint you can easily see a future with only the first five. Luxor, Excal, P Ho, Monte Carlo, TI, Trop, Harrahs, Bills, IP/Linq, Mirage - all gone already. When you consider the history of Vegas poker, that last one is insane.

Arguably, the most bizarre poker decisions of the last two years were having the rooms at the Sahara and Resorts World open post-COVID.

What is the incentive to have a poker room in a casino? Is it a loss leader to get you in the door? I loved the palms and Monte Carlo and mgm and Orleans. Didn’t play regularly but once each trip just for the fun of playing poker.

Obviously it is not economically valid but I looked at it like a buffet, maybe a losing proposition but it gets them (other than the local rocks) in the door.

    it’s sad.

I don't think it was much of a secret they were not going to reopen after the WSOP. And honestly, I wouldn't fret for the staff. With such a shortage of dealers, they will be absorbed into the other CET properties poker rooms.

Still, it does suck to see another one fall by the wayside. The old timers here on the board had used the Flamingo room as base for a few private poker tournaments over the years and the staff took great care of 20-30 drunk poker players over the course of a morning with that tournament and even opening up a cash game for the earlier outers who still wanted to play.

Poker is “an amenity for the player” meaning high end casinos are happy enough to to get poker pros in the door since some of them dump some of their winnings at the house banked dice or baccarat tables.

The low limit poker games don’t attract big time table players so the casinos really have no use for them. Penny slots are much more profitable.

They did the staff dirty. Dealers were told deal at Caesars or WSOP or you're fired. Dealers and floor staff were told room was to re-open 11/26 and were even given schedules. 48hrs later they were told "nah we're closing the room"

El Dorado has now shuttered Planet Hollywood, rio, harrahs, and flamingo poker rooms. It probably seals my move off strip for vegas purposes. I'd average 10-14 hrs a day in that room each day of my trip. physically sick and heartbroken for that staff.

thanks for the memories billy, earl, tang, orlando, hong, chi, brian, joe, true, david, tracy, josie, patty, pervies, rock, rich, rick, kully, true, kim, tom, richard, margie, donny, alan, kevin, ed, and i'm sure i'm forgetting some faces. F you, el dorado.

They may possibly find another job somewhere down the line, but from what was reported they lose their benefits and seniority, and start from the bottom elsewhere. It was a solid room for consistent tips/action. Also, CET has closed all but two rooms (Harrah's and PHo also closed permanently within the past year), and Ceasars Palace will likely close their room within the next year, leaving Bally's as their only room with the WSOP association, which they are looking at primarily to expand online gambling. MiLFe has also closed a few of their rooms (Excalibur, Mirage) and the overall trend is room closures, not room openings / expansions.

Like @Packbacker , I spent many a fun hour in the room, playing for their weekly freeroll the past few years. It was the last place on the strip for consistent limit games after the loss of first the Mirage room ($3-$6 or $6-$12)and then $4-$8 limit at The Wynn. The $2-$4 game was treading water, but had a good time drinking with little risk, plus the Friday morning free roll.

RIP Limit Poker on the Strip.

I swear El Dorado is absolutely killing CET properties, IMO.

The loss of seniority and time served may be industry wide soon if not already. Hearing tales from those in limbo with boyd and then called back from a layoff which was not the fault of either the company or them, and the loss of status / benefits (within the company) was just not conceivable to me at the time. Now it appears routine.

I think this is the wrong forum for this post considering MLife has ripped it out of half of their joints as well. Poker is just dying, and CET has never had a top 3-4 room at any point outside of the WSOP. What % of Flamingo's rooms get booked by people who play even 4 hours a trip there? 0.02%?

Poker was a desirable amenity in 2005 when Moneymaker was on your TV and lots of people with cash to burn thought it was something a casino must have. Now, in 2021? The allure is gone.

Some of the Flamingo dealers are at Bally's. Was good to see Rock this morning dealing to me.

$1/$3 now. And they also have the $3/$6 limit game that I assume was previously at the Flamingo.

I think the new trend in poker is going away from rooms in a casino and having a stand alone building that is a poker house, isn't this happening in Texas? I think one day that all casinos on the strip remove their poker rooms and then someone will build one giant poker warehouse that charges a membership to play at. The will host WSOP and have tourneys, cash games, high stakes all under one roof.

Gambling wise, nothing is happening in Texas.
It seems a theological thing. Like liquor on Sunday. The blue law(since repealed) Beer is not purchased before 10:30 in the am. Usually when a service will begin….no chance to prep - pre….but it used to be noon:mad:….coincidentally when services were ending.
