Getting 5 nights comped for March Madness from a teaser offer. Staying Wed (3/16) through Monday (3/21). Currently booked in a Deluxe 2Q at the Fremont. Thinking about changing to a Deluxe 2Q at the Cal.

Both rooms cost about the same - about $110/night for the 5 nights If I book without logging in. I was curios of the value of the rooms. As a side note, I can also get a Premium room comped at the Cal. But I think I will pass. The premium rooms are double what the deluxe room costs for my dates. Not sure if my thinking is correct, but I plan on charging meals to my room and seeing what they can take off on the back end. I don't want them saying we can't comp your food because you chose a higher cost room. Also I want to get future offers and don't want to be considered over comped for this trip.

Anyway, how do the Cal Deluxe rooms compare to the Fremont Deluxe rooms? I'm not a room snob. As long as it is clean, I'm good to go. Heck I'm willing to stay in one of those small Golden Gate rooms.

So which one would you choose?

Someone in another thread reported that Fremont is only renting out renovated rooms. I also appreciate that they put in what look to be actual blackout shades in the new rooms instead of those shutters. For those reasons and the fact that it's actually located on Fremont Street, I would definitely do Fremont.

If you like MSS, stay at the Cal. If you like Fremont St options, stay at the Fremont. Neither is a large room, but Fremont is smaller with a tiny bathroom.

Personally, I'd go for the premium room at The Cal. If they're offering it, take it. Boyd is generous with rooms. They're not going to offer anything they don't want you to take.

The Fremont rooms are going to be smaller, and on a comp, you're likely to have a room right outside the canopy with a loudspeaker blasting about 10 yards away. I like to play at Fremont, but I'd take Cal rooms over theirs. Are you going to be alone in the room? The Fremont rooms are nice, but so small that 2 people in a room make it feel like a closet.

My Fremont room was updated, but pretty tight with two beds. Small bathroom but functional. Have not stayed at the Cal.

I think I am going to switch to the Cal. Better food options. Love the market street cafe. And they also have a nice sit down steakhouse for dinner. The sit down place at the Fremont currently is only open for breakfast and lunch. I’m excluding tony Roma’s since I’ve been to ones in the past. But the steak and lobster special looks like a great deal.

In addition, I can go to the MSS for my craps sessions with the higher odds bet. I’ve been doing 3x4x5x since learning the game on the strip many moons ago. But then again without $5 dollar tables it might not matter. The only thing I won’t have at the Cal is the STP BP machines. So I’ll still have to go to the Fremont for an hour or so each day.

Our host is at the Fremont but we stay and gamble mostly at California with MSS in the evening / post dinner though it has been open so short a time we’ve not resumed the routine so far. I’d go with the cal and if distance is a problem you cross the street into Binions and exit across casino Blvd and you’re there. It’s not like the roaring crowd at binions will slow your trek
The bathroom at cal is definitely bigger if that’s important. And stay west tower (closest to MSS) in an odd room. (ask at the desk, they know ).
Plus, staying at the cal will provide you the opportunity to take some escalator pics which you can post here :) There’s always an angle….

Yea the premium rooms sound a lot nicer. But I want to see if I can get any food charges comped off at the backend. So I was thinking it would be better to take a room that costs less in comps. Also I know this is a teaser offer. So it might just be a 1 time thing. But in case it isn't, I don't want to jeopardize room offers for the future. Starting with March madness next year I want to start coming out twice a year instead of just our normal October for football season.

My buddy is planning on staying with me for the 1st 2 nights. So a bigger room might probably be better. Maybe I should take the MSS room instead. They cost the same as the Cal deluxe rooms for someone ordering straight from the website.

I am hoping the room renovations fixed this, but there was a tiny invisible step near the safe that I would bang my toes on every god damned time I used the safe. Just look down first to make sure. That thing kills.

    I’m no comp expert,
But I think getting/trying/and appreciating the larger Cal room would be much easier than getting a backend,
Also remember there’s a 40% discount on food using points, so that’s a nice way to use them.
(Once you get out of the F*U no points Ruby Tier)

JMHO: stay at Cal, hit MSS, hit all of DT - it’s not that far, and run away from the noise to a west(?) Mountain View in the bigger tower. between MSS/Cal/Fremont play, you probably will get another offer.

Also if you put in a decent stretch at tables, you can ask for a old school pit comp for food- know when and where when you ask.

I forgot to try it this trip, didn’t really hit the tables.

This is exactly where I'm coming from. The big, better room is your bird in hand, backend food/drink are your 2 in the bush.

Boyd doesn't operate like MLIFE or CET. Let's say they do give you backend food comps at the end, how much are you expecting that to really be? Aside from Redwood Steakhouse, every Boyd restaurant downtown is essentially a coffee shop or snack bar.
