Which concourse entry did you use? Precheck on one of them is only open certain days of the week. The other one (C/D) is the main full-time precheck entry (you can get to all concourses from either).

If it was the main precheck access that was closed then that's a really bad sign.

Same, D-Gates traveler here. Though I've never flown out in the middle of the night, I've never seen it closed. The logic about diverting staff to the regular line makes sense if the Pre line isn't too busy, though it's certainly annoying for those of us who have Pre.

As an aside, there's nothing more annoying than having Pre, but getting stuck flying out of a gate where the security checkpoint didn't have Pre. This happened to me at EWR and ATL, both on AA. It's not even the wait, I just don't know how to navigate the non-Pre line anymore!

I don’t remember, but I think I flew American if that helps? Vegas to San Francisco in the evening so not even red eye! And I remember now that when I was kinda shocked, a fellow traveler said she had just flown last week and they didn’t have TSA precheck either. I think that’s what was stuck in my head thinking thats weird cuz Vegas is definitely busy and I would want to be in pretsa line!

I can tell you when i got the tsa"bone" 11/6 about 9 pm. frontier flight so whatever crap terminal they operate from. Actually love frontier for the dirt cheap ,affordable flights. But they are the cricket wireless of the airlines.

I do know at times they have TSA PreCheck closed at C/D gates, but open at A/B gates. Or vice versa. I just go to whatever gates have it if they aren't both open.

The precheck at t3 is always closed when I go there for my frontier redeye return flight. At least precheck still saves me from removing shoes and allows me to use the metal detector instead of the scanner.
